We've been working on this for almost a year now, which is crazy to think about. We came up with the idea of creating a photo booth app while having lunch on a patio one day last summer. The idea quickly grew when we thought it would be fun to layer the photo booth images, creating stop-motion videos and .gifs! That quickly became our favorite part of the app. We've spent the last few months testing the app. Our phones are filled with dozens of (mostly really silly) stop-motion videos. 50+ test rounds later, the app is ready to launch!
You pick how many photos you want to take (1, 4, 9, or 16), and the app will take the photos automatically, spacing them 1 second apart by default. But you can go into settings to give yourself more time if you need. Or you can switch it to manual mode and take the pictures at whatever pace you like! We definitely recommend you turn your sound on, so you can hear the countdown. Oh and you HAVE to at least listen to the other sound options. Our niece Penny recorded a countdown, and it's AMAZING!
Once you've taken your photos, you now have all these options to play with:
STOP MOTION ANIMATION
• Adjust the speed of the animation to your liking
• Save as looping video, perfect for Instagram
• OR save as a .gif file for your blog, Tumblr or website
• Lay out as square collage for Instagram
• OR lay out as classic photo booth strip for printing
• Customize your creation with 17 filters inspired by a bright, modern feel as well as vintage film
• Adjust brightness and contrast to your liking
• Choose from 7 frames inspired by vintage photo booths and film
• OR apply a clean, simple circle or plain white border
So this is tough, because we know so many of our readers have Android phones and would love to support us and try out this app. Like we've talked about in the past, developing for Android sadly isn't as simple as copying and pasting code to the Google Play store. It's a completely different platform, so you're pretty much starting from scratch. In other words, it's a huge investment. And our A Beautiful Mess Android launch wasn't able to recoup our investment. To put it in perspective, it sold 1/20 the amount iOS did. So right now, Android is too risky for us, but we're definitely open to it in the future. We're keeping an eye on Google Play for sure.

We’re right there with you. We chose to launch without uploading for a couple reasons: (1) It’ll require some pretty heavy lifting from a development standpoint and (2) more importantly we wanted people to get a feel for making something in the moment first.
But we absolutely plan to add uploading to our first big update.

Just wondering, are you planning on including a feature that would allow you to upload photos to the app directly from your camera roll? I love the app but I accidentally clicked that Party!Party! can’t access my photos and now it gives me an error each time I try to save it. I’ve even tried deleting it and reinstalling it but same problem!

My girls and I have been blowing the app up today. It is so much fun!
When I’m taking pictures with the manual setting, I lost track of how many pictures I had left. The automatic settings lets you know how many are left but the manual doesn’t. That would be a nice feature. Since that happened I wasn’t able to add more pictures and the whole video was unusable, I wasn’t able to add my final product. I’ll tag you on IG 🙂

A few notes for future updates:
1- while in manual mode, it would be nice to be able to delete a bad photo instead of starting over (the whole good sequence is deleted b/c of 1 bad photo, and it sucks to stage it over again).
2- using the volume side buttons to take a photo (this is especially handy when trying to photograph your own pregnant belly from the side. I tried to press the regular screen button and pressed ‘cancel’ instead…huge bummer).

i love it. i have been playing with it so much too and am excited to see that the upload feature will be available with update. i second this idea of numbering the photos you have taken/have left in manual mode. i chose to manually take 16 photos this morning and had no idea how many i had left. you can scroll to count the ones you have taken, so that is helpful, but a quick visual would be awesome. great job, guys. again. 🙂

1.Being able to add sound! like a little movie! This might be a little far fetched but hey why not:)
2.Being able to move the pictures in the sequence. I realized I took a photo out of order and had to start all over. (manual mode)

I looks really good. But what is the difference between this and the ABM app?
Aside from having filters, they don’t do any of the same things actually! This app makes photo booth images and stop-motion videos/.gifs! 🙂

Really? We’ve noticed that it is still populating and many people aren’t able to see it yet. Can you see it if you go to A Beautiful Mess app and look at “related”? You also may be able to find it on the top charts, look at top paid apps.

I’m so bummed that you don’t have a development for Android yet. I got super excited from all the teasers on your instagrams for it! Now I feel like it was all a tease 🙁 lol I’ll definitely donate on a crowdsourcing venue to get it on Android.

So sad this won’t be released for Android 🙁 I feel like this app has a much more unique use (Let’s be honest- the ABM app was basically like instagram/VSCO Cam/etc but with a few different features). However, THIS app has COMPLETELY different features and a different function. I’d much rather have access to this vs. the ABM app. 🙁
I don’t understand how it can be a gif when I compose an email, but once I send it, it’s not animated. Then I download it, it’s a .gif but isn’t animated, it’s just the first picture. Sure I can upload the “gif” that’s a video onto instagram, but I actually want to have .gif images for use on other sites. I’m hoping this is some kind of bug that will be fixed, and not that the video is supposed to be a “gif”
Love this app! It’s been so much fun and I love that you can use the animated GIFs for other stuff other than social media.
A few questions/suggestions:
-I can’t seem to figure out which saved movie/photo clip in my Photos is the actual GIF that I can use on a blog or website.
-Are we suppose to email the animated GIF to ourselves to them paste it into a blog post? Or how is that suppose to be done? I’ve only ever used code to embbed GIFs.
-a countdown on the photos taken would be nice to let us know how many we have left, or something to that affect
-delete a bad photo option

Once you create a stop-motion video and export it, the video will save in your camera roll. You have to select the option “save as a .gif” after you export it if you want to put it on a blog or website. You won’t need to use code to embed it.
You can either use the manual mode option or the countdown feature when taking photos. The countdown will show 1, 2, 3 and then take the picture. You can choose between 1, 4, 9, or 16 total photos (this option is next to the camera button).

I so love this app! I have problems though! For one, it spontaneously is crashing about half the times I’ve tried to use it. 🙁 Secondly and more importantly, I get a gibberish error message when I try to actually save/upload the photos. It goes away so fast that I can’t read it thoroughly.
I am using iphone 4 with ios7…any ideas anyone? I want this to work. 🙂

Did you release your first app to both apple and android users at the same time? I’m thinking a big reason why your sales to android users was much lower could be that you released it much later to that market and the sense of urgency And marketing you put into it was gone by then..l hence the much lower sales. Just a thought. Love, a sad android user.
I really hope we can see it on android sometime. I love the first beautiful mess app. I use it to edit all my pictures. I have another photo editor on my phone but ABM really adds to that cute girly thing I like. Ive been working on a scrap book Aka Making my boyfriend take cute pictures all the time because otherwise he wont lol

A question that maybe Trey can answer: have you heard of issues with the ABM app for windows phone? I have the problem that sometimes I’m not able to bring my foto in the right position. I want something in the middle of the pic but am not able to do that. I found my way to do it anyway with an other app and then come back to the ABM app for the features. So thats fine for me 🙂
But since I know your not using windows phone I wanted to make sure you know about the issue.

I purchased the app and made a couple animated photo sets but they didn’t save to my camera roll. The photo collages and film strips did but not the animated sets. Any suggestions of how to fix this? My phone is old- a 3GS – could that be the problem? It’s a fun app and would be more fun if I could save the animated sets too. Thanks for your help.

I’m getting an error when I go to export photos. Is this a known bug or just me? Babies grabbing phones look way cuter in gif form and I want to share!
So I’ve seen on Instagram some people are adding music to their .gif’s how are they doing that? Please share?
Oh also, is there any other way to slow down the photo taking process to longer then 5 seconds? for example…on your cake .gif up above there’s no way you cut the cake and dished it out in 5 seconds….did you pause it or something?

Settings > Privacy > Photos > Party Party
Be sure that the slider is on (green)

I have a Canon SELPHY CP910 is it possible to print pictures on it from your app? Or would I have to go to the canon app to do that?
