Hello, everyone! It's Katie here again! Ever since Emma cut her hair several months back, I've been wanting to find more hairstyles for her new length. It's such a great cut, and I have quite a few friends who have this same general style, so I knew I needed to find more things that work for this length! Today, I have an updo for you to try out!
Supplies:
-comb
-hair elastics (3 or 4, depending on the thickness of your hair)
-bobby pins
-hair spray (optional)
Step One: Use your comb to gather the top section of hair from your head and tie off with an elastic. The goal here is to have three equal sections, so keep that in mind when gathering your first section.
Step Two: Gather hair from the middle section of the head and tie off with an elastic.
Step Three: Gather your last section, which is the bottom section, and tie off with an elastic.
Step Four: Begin French braiding down the ponytail, incorporating the hair from all three small ponytails. Continue until you reach the bottom.
Steps Five & Six: After you have reached the bottom and tied the braid off with an elastic, pull the braid outward to create a fuller-looking braid. Be careful not to pull it too much, or it will be extremely loopy when it's finished. I learned this the hard way.
Step Seven: Take the top of the braid above the first hair elastic and pin into place. Try to hide the elastic completely.
Step Eight: Roll the bottom of the braid under and pin into place. Finish off the style by pinning the sides down until all the elastics are covered. Your final product should look something like this:
Emma's hair is such a great length for this style, and it looks beautiful on her! Don't be scared off if your hair is a little shorter or a little longer than Emma's. I think this style could work for a lot of lengths!
I'll be sharing some more styles in the coming weeks for all you gals with medium-length hair! Until then, happy braiding! xo. Katie

Curious…what type of hair does Emma have? Mine is very fine thin and doesn’t hold many hair styles(none). It’s often just up in a scrunchi….yes scunchi! Her hair looks similar to mine but photos can be deceiving. I would love to have an up do like hers.
This is so cute! I need my hair to be a LITTLE longer and then I will be able to do this!
Wow! This is gorgeous!
Such a pretty hairstyle! I haven’t put my hair in a braid for a very long time. I may have to try again! Are you still doing Project Life? I would love to see more of your pages!
LOVE the way the blonde mixes in with the dark brown in Emma’s braid! The contrast looks so good! It’s a gorgeous hairstyle, especially for those days when your hair gets a little dirty and you don’t want to wear it down. Great for casual days and for more businessy looks!

Oh my, thank you so much for this updo. Maybe I’ll try it myself tomorrow. I’m really bad at fixing my hair (or anyone else’s hair for that matter, but I’d really like to try. Looks easy, probably isn’t π Thanks again!
Have a nice day!

Cute! That’d be a great way to do a faux french braid that won’t fall out.
I love this! I’ve been wanting to cut my hair shorter but was afraid I couldn’t do pretty updos (which I love). So this makes me happy and feel a little braver about getting it cut soon!

You make it look so easy! I’m sure if I attempted this mine would be a much messier version, haha! It does look really gorgeous though, and is such a pretty hairstyle for the Summer as you definitely don’t want loads of hair hanging around your head in the heat! x

This is really cute. I usually just wear my hair down- but when I saw this, I immediately though, “for spinning class!” I hate it when my hair falls down on my neck when I’m that sweaty! I’ll have to practice and see if I can learn to do this quickly.
I love love love this! I’m always looking for new ways to wear my hair in updo’s because of my job, and I think this would work great with my curly hair! Loved this article!

This is so cute! I’ve been thinking about cutting my hair recently, but I was wondering how I could do different hairstyles with a shorter length. This would be perfect for the length I want to cut my hair!
This is so cute! I have been thinking about cutting my hair for awhile! This will be a great hairstyle!
I am in love with this braid!!! I have long hair and it worked perfect for me!!! So easy for work and also could be super fancy. Thank so much for the great tutorials.

Wow.. it looks great on Emma! Love the colors of her hair! I’m always afraid of wearing braids, but maybe I will give it a try… π

pretty! j’aime, j’aime!!!!!!!!!!
I love braids.. unfortunately I am not that good at them, but I keep practising all the time, in the hope I get better of course!
I french braid my hair upside down so its backwards. Theres a picture of me with a backwards french braid on this blog post: https://esrscreatives.wordpress.com/2014/07/04/summer-lasting-sheer-red-lip-for-day/

This is beautiful! Wish my hair was even remotely long enough to try this…guess I’m going to have to try it out on my roommates π

I love this! It makes me wish I had long hair again.

My hair is very fine and thin (natural blonde) and I just tried this. Not only did it work, it looks very full and just amazing, and it was so easy to do!! Give it a try!
Mine was a little (or a LOT) messier of a final product, but it worked! My hair is curly, layered, and coarse, so I rarely try hair tutorials. This actually worked for my hair, though! I have a feeling that with enough practice, I can make it neat (tidy) enough of a ‘do to wear in the classroom.
Thank you so much for a tutorial that works for atypical hair- I can’t wait to see the next one!
So so pretty! But kinda impossible to do alone though!!! π

So lovely! Katie, I have really fine long hair so it’s really tricky to style as it’s wont twist into shape it just flops. Do you know any great styles for fine hair or have any products and tips which might help me out? Thank you π
I really love how that came out. I’ve done the french braid out of the three hair sections before, but I’ve never thought of tucking it at each end. With some ribbon or little rhinestone pins this could become a really pretty bridal style!
I have short hair (a bit over my shoulders), it’s fine but I have quite a lot, so I thought that this would no work on my hair but I was so wrong!! I find quite hard to find different hairstyles for short hair, specially braids but I tried this and it worked perfectly!! I did it in like 5 minutes and it looks amazing!! Definitely will be waring this over the week!!
This is particularly lovely…i have absolutely no highlights in my hair so a bit of texture is always welcome…thanks for sharing this post..
