Alternate title: I’m Dreaming of a White Bedroom
Today I’m here to talk about the progress and plans going on in our master bedroom. You can see the BEFORE here. So far, I’m having the BEST time planning out our cozy, chill master bedroom. It’s completely different from the other spaces in our home because I am placing more priority on coziness and less on how exciting the design is. I mean, I still hope it turns out cute, BUT I’m OK with it being a teeny bit boring if it elevates our quality of relaxation.
Originally I was shopping for a platform bed. I had my heart set on that, but after seeing this photo from The Parker, I decided to keep our canopy bed and paint it white.
Look how cute it turned out!!!
(It’s this bed frame, by the way.) It really lightens up the bed frame. I was feeling like it was too heavy for my decor in the past few years, but this changes everything. I love it SO much.
I’m considering gold corners for the bed frame too. But I’m going to wait till the rest of the room is more complete to decide.
We still have a lot to do in this space, but it’s functional enough to move in to! #progress
My current plans are too keep it very simple, light and airy. I want it to be a relaxing space. Our internet doesn’t reach back to that bedroom and we decided not to get it fixed, and rather to try to never bring our computers back there. I’m really excited about this. Since we moved we’ve completely stopped watching television in bed and I think it’s a really healthy change and we’re both sleeping better.
Here are some of my initial decor plans…
1. I love this moon marquee. 2. Plant life is a huge priority. Since we want to keep it pretty simple, plants are one of the best ways to add color and make a room feel more fresh. 3. I love these juju hats. Such a pretty way to create texture! 4. Cozy blankets like this one are essential. 5. We chose this rug a while ago. It was one of the first things we chose for the space. I knew I wanted something with great texture that was neutral, and it fits perfectly! 6. Cute baskets. 7. Always room for a striped pillow. 8. Fun pillow cases.
So as you can see, I’m still in the very beginning stages. Lots of options!
We’re considering wallpapering the ceiling, which would add a little texture and pattern. But I have to find a good neutral paper, and I haven’t found the perfect one yet. Going to take my time deciding on the fixture. And for the dresser I am considering doing an Ikea hack!
So far these plans are blending pretty seamlessly with the master bathroom. That’s important to me because, although they’re technically two different rooms, I want them to have the exact same vibe.
We’ve made a LOT of progress on the house these past few weeks! I’ll check back in with more progress reports soon! xx- Elsie

Where is the moon marquee from? Or are you planning to DIY that?
A bedroom should be the coziest room in the house! So go for it!!

I like the plan you have for this room! The color scheme seems very neutral and relaxing. Not having a TV of wifi in the bedroom is such a good idea.

Love rug choice. Can’t wait to see how it all comes together.
I love how that turned out, I am pretty sure in the end it will be cozy and very very stylish!

Obsessed with that moon!!!
Very textural, love it!
Can you share a tutorial of how you painted the bed? I have a really similar canopy bed, but mine is stainless steel. I’ve wanted to change it, but always figured I’d have to get it professionally done. Oh and I love the neutrals! The textures help bring them alive!
Thanks!
So light and serene! I love your design inspiration – can’t wait to see the final product <3

SO sorry about that! I guess I forgot to link it, but I’ve updated it now! It’s from Etsy. :)) xx- Elsie
I just used this paint- http://www.amazon.com/Rust-Oleum-7790502-Protective-Enamel-32-Ounce/dp/B002GD51KS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1454515654&sr=8-1&keywords=rustoleum+oil+based+flat In the photo it still looks shiny, but in the end we went over it with a coat of this flat paint and it looks better.
Thanks so much Molly! xx- Elsie
This is amazing!

I love that bed frame!!!
Wow, this looks SO different from your former bedroom decor(s)!
I love both styles but this one looks sooo cozy.
Also, banning the wifi/technology from the bedroom is such a good idea, I’m considering it for my place too!

This room is looking amazing! I can’t wait to see the full tour!

Love that moon light! Amazingg.
What a fabulous job! I love a white bedroom, so clean and crisp, you feel all is right with the world.
Our bedroom is pretty simple…bed, night stand and record player. It’s a knotty pine attic space and I used to HATE the wood color but it’s actually grown on me and become incredibly cozy. Honestly it’s become my favorite room in the house and I don’t think you’ll have any regrets keeping it simple if you are planning for kiddos. There is something freaking heavenly about a simple, quiet, clean space at the end of the night. I can’t wait to see the end result of your space.
I love the look that you’ve got planned for your bedroom! We’ve recently redecorated our bedroom and I’m so bad at settling on a style and sticking to it! It’s currently (for the past 6 months) just painted a warm off white with no decor, but I have no idea what to do – and it’s such an awkward space too with low sloped ceilings on both sides too. I really just need to take inspiration from you and pick something and go for it haha!

Can you DIY the juju hat please!! I’ve wanted one for years, but can’t afford the $500 price tag.
I’m totally in love with everything you have planned for your space! It’s going to look fabulous!

I’m so glad you kept the bed! I’ve wanted one just like I for years, but really don’t have the heart to replace ours as it’ an antique family heirloom and part of a set. But one day! The room looks gorgeous, Elsie!
This bedroom is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! I love it! I can’t believe the transformation.

I’m excited! I’ll update here in a year or so once I know if our plan has worked!

Yes- totally different. I’m excited to try a new approach. :))

The first photo is inspiration! It’s from The Parker hotel. :))
The second photo is my actual bedroom (a couple weeks ago, we’ve made some more progress since then).
Excited to make more progress!! -Elsie
Ohh! Do you like having a record player in there? How often do you use it? I am considering that (or maybe just some speakers for our iPhones to play music from.
xx- Elsie
Hey April! Yes, I completely relate with you. I love so many different styles, it’s hard to commit. When you do choose a style (and color palette) it helps simplify the process SO MUCH, though. So I highly recommend it! Every space has its pros and cons. :))
xx- Elsie
I’ve seen them on Etsy for much less. 🙂 I’ll look into a DIY, but it depends on how much the feathers cost if it’s worth it or not.

Love the room!

I’ve recently fallen in love with the minimal grey/white/cream design! My living room turned out that way without me even trying. I like the idea of paining your bed. Mine is already white, but those gold corners…hmm, you may have started something!

That rug! I want one too!
http://annescribblesanddoodles.blogspot.com
I love wall planters! I recently got one of these from Umbra (http://www.umbra.com/cad/diamont-wall-lg) They look really great as a wall display.
Also, this is a great Ikea hack for a dresser. (http://www.happymundane.com/2012/01/project-sb-update-contact-paper-is-your-friend/) I feel like a white dresser with walnut contact paper drawers would fit the look you are going for. Good luck!
I absolutely cannot wait for you to reveal your whole house! The little glimpses help, but make me thirsty for more! It’s going to be such an amazing home!
How fun! Loving this look!
