We are so excited to share a few new courses we are offering at Shop A Beautiful Mess this summer!
Today we are launching our latest e-course, Blog Design Love 2.0. This course is the second edition of our popular Blog Design Love e-course. We’ve packed this version with all new design lessons from Promise Tangeman and reworked coding lessons from Elise Blaha Cripe. You’ll learn design, font, and color basics for crafting a strong visual brand online. You’ll be able to map your site’s navigation, know how to make your archives work for you, and learn how to optimize your posts for Pinterest. This class will help you to customize your online space in a way that fits your style, engages your readers, and looks amazing!
You can get more information and read about all 30 sessions that this course includes here.
This is a “work at your own pace” course. There are no due dates, and the course never expires. Students have continual access to a private Q&A board to ask Promise and Elise questions and read the archives of other students’ questions. This e-course also includes a PDF of the entire course so you can print all the materials at home. Cost: $45 USD.
If you were a student of the first edition of Blog Design Love, you are welcome to receive 25% of this new course with a coupon code located at the top of the old version.
Back by popular demand: Mastering Your DSLR with Candice Stringham. Update: This course has been retired
This five-week workshop, beginning June 30, is a beginner’s guide to understanding your camera. This workshop covers all the different settings and controls on a DSLR for both Canon and Nikon users. Candice explains what they mean, when to use them, and most importantly, how to use them to get the look you want!
Remember that our interactive workshops can only host a set number of students at a time. When we first ran Mastering Your DSLR, the workshop sold out—so don’t hesitate to sign up today! You can read more about the workshop, including student reviews, and see how to sign up here.
We are also very excited to launch our very first workshop geared toward kiddos! Candice created Photography Camp for Kids as a way for her to introduce creativity through photography to her own children during the summer months while they were out of school. *This course has been retired, but you can view our other courses here!
This workshop is interactive, three weeks long, and filled to the brim with fun activities that will engage your children. The workshop is $38USD. You can read about what the course includes, recommended ages, and more about the instructors here.
For general questions, feel free to leave us a comment below. If you have a more specific question or have any difficulty using the shop site, please email us at support AT redvelvetart DOT com.

Hi,
The sign up link has an error – can you repost? I’d also be really interested in more art journaling courses.
Thanks!
Rachel
Is the Mastering Your DSLR class filled up? The link is not working for me to sign up for the class. Thanks!
Yes, should be fixed now.
And good to know about art journaling. Thanks for the input!
-Emma
Thanks Laurali, I think it should be fixed now.
-Emma
Problem should be fixed now. Give it another try.
Thanks!

Yayyy!!! I love you girls & Elise, I have been waiting for this one to be released!! Made my day!
If I’m not familiar with Photoshop, would it be best to wait on the Blog Design Love course? Or would it still be beneficial to take as a new blogger?
Thanks!
I love those turquoise shoes! Can I ask where you got them?
Would you create e-courses in french one day?? 🙂 it would be soooooo cool!
I was just going to ask that too! They’re gorgeous!
So excited for the new Blog Design Love course!! I really enjoyed the first one and can’t wait to try out the updated version!
xoxo
Taylor
p.s. when I clicked on the first link for the Kiddo workshop, it sent me to “Page Not Found”. Just wanted to make sure you guys knew!
This is all very tempting…
xo
Oooh I wish I had time to do one of these courses, they sound like fun!

Yes!! I have been looking forward to the blog design love e course.
QUESTION: can this course be applied to a hosted blog? or is it only for self hosted blogs?
Thank you!
just purchased blog design love! where do i find the content as a pdf for download?
Hi! I took your first class but can’t find the log in anywhere. I’ve since got a new computer so I don’t have the link saved. Can you tell me where to find the old class? I still have my log in info – just not the link to where the class is located. Thanks!
Hi Taylor! Thanks for letting us know. It’s fixed now 🙂 – Jacki
Hi Deanna! We recommend that you learn about Photoshop before taking the course. We are planning to launch a Photoshop course this winter. 🙂 – Jacki
Hi Jessica! Send me an email at: support AT redvelvetart DOT com and I can help you with that. – Jacki
These are great! I have a question. I use Gimp because it’s a free software comparable to Photoshop. Is the Blog Design Love 2.0 applicable if I use that platform? I’ve tried to search for a Photoshop but they only have a monthly subscription version and I’m not sure if (on my college budget) I can afford that right now.
Best,
Patricia
I was sad to see the Photoshop class seems to no longer be happening. Any chance it still will at a later time? thx
Hi Amy! The PDF should be available this Friday. Feel free to send me an email at: support AT redvelvetart DOT com if you need anything else! – Jacki
Hi Barbara! We are planning a Winter launch for the Photoshop course 🙂 – Jacki
Hi Patricia! We recommend that you are familiar with Photoshop to take this course, so it should be fine as long as Gimp is similar. 🙂 – Jacki
Hi Michelle! Great question. There are lessons that are useful no matter what sort of blog you are on (like the graphic design lessons, showcasing your archives and branding for social media). But the course is geared towards customizing your blog design, so if you are unable to access the coding portion and you’re only able to write posts, the course wouldn’t be very beneficial. 🙂 – Jacki
I really want to take the Mastering your DSLR class, but I’ll be gone for 3 weeks in July for my Honeymoon! Please say you’ll offer it again in August or the Fall!
Hi Julia! Sorry about that! It’s very possible that we will launch it again in the Fall. 🙂 – Jacki
So exciting! This is completely unrelated (sorry!) but when will the photo contest winners be announced? Thanks <3
for blog design love – can’t see where i should be accessing the q+a board? thanks!
How long will the e-course be available?!?! 😀
these all sound awesome!
xxoo,
nikki
http://www.dreaminneon.blogspot.com
That’d be woderful. I’d love to take the course but I need to learn photoshop first 😉
It will be available for a while – at least 6 months, maybe more. 🙂 – Jacki
We are hoping to contact the winners in the next week. 🙂 -Jacki
Hi Amy! Once you make your purchase, you should see the Q&A button at the top of the course page. If you are having anymore trouble, send me an email at: support AT redvelvetart DOT com. Thanks! – Jacki
Yes, please tell us! They’re gorgeous.
I really want to do the Blog Design course! I’ve started for my blog for a few months now and I started doing my own design. I think this is such a wonderful idea for bloggers who want to be in full control of the design, instead of just paying a designer. Thanks for the course! 🙂

Ahh!!! I hope I can talk my husband into working the photography class into our budget before it sells out!! Really want to take it *fingers crossed*

directions for printing the courses? Want to put on my iPad for reviewing while I work on my blog!
I will out of town (on my honeymoon!) when the class starts on the 30th, and we won’t be returning until the 15th of July. Can I still sign up and access the class after I return?
Hi Melissa! Unfortunately, you won’t be able to sign up after the 30th. We hope to offer this one again though! – Jacki
Very cool. Tempted by the DSLR one : )
Does this course help with creating a blogger theme? I can code a WordPress theme in no time, but am having the hardest time learning the structure of a blogger theme, and there’s not a lot of good documentation out there. I’d love to take this course if there’s a lot of explanations on how to code for blogger. I’d like to create themes to re-sell like I do my wordpress themes.
MMMM. Definitely need to take one of these courses!

Hi Elsie & Emma! Do you guys have any recommendations for the best entry level DSLR camera for beginners? Thanks!
I am incredibly excited about your Blog Design Love 2.0 e-course!! I have ZERO experience or knowledge when it comes to things like HTML, and I know this course would be incredibly helpful as far personalizing my blog goes!! But…I am also not familiar with Photoshop. I have an iPad and a MacBook, and am currently using iPhoto to edit my pics; I’ve invested in Apple’s Aperture program, but I haven’t yet learned to work with it (blogging is keeping me mighty busy these days!!) Would your design e-course still be worthwhile for me?!
http://www.StyleIsMyPudding.com
The Mastering your DSLR course definitely interests me, I really need to learn how to do more with Nikon!
I also think the Photography Camp for Kids is a genius idea to entertain your kids during the summer with something creative and useful. Too bad I don’t have any kiddos around to enroll!
Regarding the Mastering Your DSLR; the course goal is to eventually shoot in just Manual Mode, Correct? I’m familiar with Aperture and Shutter Priority, but having difficulty mastering white balance and simply shooting in Manual Mode to achieve the look of the photos I would like. Any feedback would be much appreciated. I have the course in my cart ready for purchase 🙂
Thanks Jacki!
Awesome! Think I will pick up one of these courses for the summer 🙂 Roll on pay day!
I love that you guys are offering these classes!! Will you guys be offering a Mastering Your DSLR 2.0 for intermediate/advanced photographers? Or do you feel that this class covers a broad enough range to make it worthwhile for people who already know their way around a DSLR? Thanks!!
xo

Hi Jordan! We should have a PDF version of Blog Design Love available to download tomorrow. 🙂 -Jacki
Hi Margo! This course teaching design principles as well as the coding you will need to implement your designs on Typepad, Blogger and WordPress.com. 🙂 – Jacki
Hi there,
I don’t think the “read more” button on the bottom of the Mastering your DSLR page works…it keeps saying page not found.
I love your classes. Could you tell me if the Mastering your DSLR is more for the beginner-beginner or is there stuff in there for a beginner-intermediate who wants to sharpen her skills?
Thanks!
Kristyn
Hi Adrienne! The post from last year might be helpful: http://abeautifulmess.com/2013/01/a-beautiful-mess-camera-gear-list.html 🙂 – Jacki
Hi Monika! We recommend that you are comfortable with Photoshop before taking this course. We are planning to launch a Photoshop course later this year 🙂 – Jacki
Hi Sarah! I don’t believe that we are going to offer an intermediate/advanced class anytime this year. This class is geared toward someone who doesn’t know as much about their DSLR camera. – Jacki
Hi Kristyn! Thanks for letting us know. It’s fixed now 🙂 – Jacki
These shoes are perfect!
hiya! couple of quick things – the course so far is wonderful 🙂
i asked a couple questions and they were only answered by elise – i would love to hear promise’s perspective too – will she be jumping in?
for the q&a board i see everyone’s questions but not their answers…
Hey,
it says that you should be able to pay without paypal just by using normal credit card informations, but everytime I click place order it sends me on to Pay pal.
Tempting!
I have a question about the mastering your DSLR class: is it purely technical Training, or do we also get teachings on photography (composing the image…)?
Thanks!
Yepaaaa!!! super cool, I bought it as soon as you released it 😀 😀 (blog design love) because I enjoyed a lot blog life and I think they are complementary ! Thanks for these awesome courses I can’t find elsewhere
Yay, Mastering your DSLR was the perfect birthday gift to myself. Thanks for offering it again.
I have a question for the Blog Design Love 2 course: will the coding help for me that runs a self-hosted (sadly neglected at the moment) wordpress (not wordpress.com) blog? I so would love to learn more about how to code my own theme there…
Hi there! The lessons are taught through wordpress.com – Jacki
Hi Elsa! The course covers more of the technical side – apertures, shutter speeds, white balance, focusing, depth of field, and how to shoot completely in manual mode.
Hi Lucca! We only accept Paypal payments. – Jacki
Hi! Promise will be answering questions, too. Answers may not show up until they are approved. – Jacki
I would really like to sign up for the DSLR course but when I try to it keeps saying Page not found!
Hi Phyllis! The first two weeks are about aperture and shutter speed, but by week three, the course will discuss manual mode and how to best pick settings and exposure. 🙂 – Jacki
Hi Keara! Sorry about that. The site was down for a little while this weekend, but it should work for you now: http://shop.abeautifulmess.com/product/mastering-dslr-course/ – Jacki
I have a question about your kids photography camp. Would it be suitable for a child to do if they live in the Southern Hemisphere?
I would love to sign my daughter up but its winter here and although our winters are not snowy.. its still a bit bleak most of the time so I am not sure if your course will be mostly about lighting in the sunlight?
Thanks
Leonie
Girls, team, just wanted to share with you that I have whote about ABM in my blog. First time when I wrote about blog that inspire me (HERE: http://hometocome.typepad.com/blog/2014/05/inspiring-blogs.html) and not on the resources for bloggers that are useful (HERE: http://hometocome.typepad.com/blog/2014/06/5-websites-about-blogging-and-online-business.html). Sorry, this is in Russian, but I still think it is worth to share. I have bought and Blog Life and moving slowly through it but enjoying it a lot. Thanks!
have been checking regularly to see if promise had responded to any questions for blog design love. no luck so far. when should i check back to read her responses? really interested in what she has to say.
Hi Deanna, In the course I show you everything you need to know about photoshop to complete the assignments in the course. You will not learn everything about photoshop in the course but I have several video tutorials that show you exactly what you need to do to accomplish the tasks and steps suggested! So you can definitely do this course with out knowing photoshop! 🙂
