ABM Book Club: May Selection

The goldfinchWe're excited to announce the May selection for the ABM book club! We will be reading The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt. This is one of those uber popular books, so I bet some of you have already read it. And if not, you're probably like me and it's been on your reading list for some time.

Now I'm getting excited for next month.

And we'll be discussing The Longbourn on April 30th, so stay tuned for that. ๐Ÿ™‚ xo. Emma

  • Yes! This is perfect! It’s also my May selection for my local book club ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ve been wanting to read this for so long and am even more excited now that it just won the Pulitzer earlier this week.

    Can’t wait!

    Sarah

  • I love your book reviews!!! This has been on my to-read list so I might just have to join along! :]

  • Excited you guys chose this book for May–I should (finally) be at the top my library’s reservation list by then!

  • This has been on my to-read list for a little bit. I can’t wait until I finally get around to reading it.

  • You’re right, this book is very popular! I knew you guys would pick it at some point, so I put a hold for it at the library about a month ago. At the time, I was number 1,054 in line! I’ve been reserving books at the library for years and I’ve never seen a hold number that high. Today I’m number 698 which is better, but it probably won’t be here in time for this ๐Ÿ™

  • Long time reader, first time commentor. Really enjoying this latest series. Great work!

  • This has been on my reading list as well! I’m super excited since I wasn’t able to read April’s book. Although, I’m also dying to read The Hobbit as well! Good thing I don’t mind drowning in books. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • I just got this book yesterday ๐Ÿ™‚ I am not the fastest reader. So even though we still have a month and half left, I am not sure I can finish it on time for the discussion. I will try my best though ๐Ÿ™‚

  • So I realize we’re supposed to focus on the book, but that carpet! Where is it from? Love the patterns and color.
    Sarah

  • Great!! I’ve had this on my kindle but not got round to reading it. This will spur me on!

  • Great choice! Its a book that will stay with you long after you finish it.
It also just won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction!

  • Oh my! You’re library should buy a few more copies it sounds like. I wonder how that is determined. Any librarians out there know? Just curious.

    -Emma

  • Honestly, it’s a long looking one! I’m a little worried I won’t finish within the month either but I’m gonna give it best shot. ๐Ÿ™‚

    -Emma

  • It’s such a great book! A real page-turner and really doesn’t seem that long once you’ve started reading it! ๐Ÿ™‚ Laura

  • I just finished The Goldfinch a few weeks ago and it has become one of my favorite books of all time. (I’m serious.) Despite its length, it never felt like a long book. I loved every second. I hope you all enjoy!

  • Pulitzer prize- wow! I think I will join in on this one! I should be finished up with all the books on my list by then!

  • Well it has 261 copies, but it’s the Los Angeles public library so there’s lots readers to satisfy! Anyway, I just think it’s crazy how popular the book is. I’ll get it eventually…and then come back here and read the post ๐Ÿ™‚

  • I’m reading this right now! It is an incredible read. I was on a very long wait list at my library also & when I finally got to the top of the list, guess what?? I scored the large print edition. Imagine how big that thing was?? I wanted to keep reading it for a trip to your neck of the woods (I used to live in southwest Missouri), so I ended up buying the Kindle edition.

  • Yes! I read this book a couple of months ago and absolutely loved it. Such a great choice ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ll look forward to the discussion for that one.

  • Oh great choice! Such a fantastic book. I never wanted it to end (and the end is so beautiful and profound). Enjoy the read and the conversations it will inspire.

  • ooh I have been wanting to read this, none of the libraries in the county I live in even stock it, so looks like I will have to buy this, but I am sure it will be worth it!

  • I’m really glad you chose a book I can read French. My English is not too bad, but far from perfect! Read your blog, I can … But a big novel of several hundred pages … not sure!

  • This is a great book so far. I downloaded the sample so that I could at least start while waiting in line at my library! Better just buy it!

  • uuuhhh i would love if you can select Gabriel Garcรญa Marquez’s books! besides that he is one of my fav author, i felt a lot his recently death..!

  • Just finished the audio version of the book, I have a 2 hour commute every day. Loved it. Kept hoping there would be heavy traffic so I could keep listening! First time in a book group. Looking forward to this!

  • i just finished slougging through the goldfinch, i wasn’t a big fan. its been super popular in the blog world though, which was why i picked it up in the first place, but i seem to be in the minority on this one. hope you like it better than i did

  • I’ve just finished this book and it lived up to my expectations. Donna tart is a genius. If you haven’t already read her previous books I can highly recommend the secret history

  • I would love to read this book, but unfortunately for the moment it’s impossible to buy it where I live. I’ll have to wait until it arrives here. Despite this, i’ll follow your discussion for sure.

    Love your blog. ๐Ÿ™‚
