Announcing Our New App—A Color Story!

A Color StoryToday we are thrilled to announce our new, upcoming app—A Color Story! It’s been almost a year and a half in the making.

A Color Story is an everyday photo editing app with filters, tools, and simple light effects. We love fresh photos with bright whites and colors that pop, and lately we’ve had a hard time finding an app that can get our photos just right. So we created A Color Story as a simple tool for colorful images. The app has 100+ filters, 30+ effects 20+ tools and the freedom to create and save custom filters!

We’ll share much more when the app rolls out. In the meantime, we just wanted to share a few glimpses of what A Color Story can do.

Bring your color to life! Instead of filters that mute or change your color, we focus on filters that enhance the color that is already there.

Simplicity! We’ve all tried apps that are just too hard to navigate, where you feel like you need a tutorial to even begin. A Color Story is simple. This photo was edited with just ONE filter. No other tools or adjustments!

There is MUCH more we want to share. But we won’t overload you for today! Here’s a quick video that shares all the key features available in A Color Story.

Q: When is your launch date? 

A: We haven’t set an official date, but if everything goes smoothly, we’re hoping to launch in the next few weeks! We will keep you informed via Instagram as well as post here when it is available in the App Store. If the Apple review goes smoothly, it could be as soon as next Wednesday!

Q: Are you developing for Android? 
A: Yes, we are. It is also in testing phase. The process is completely different from iOS. We will launch it as soon as we are happy with the test phase, but it may be a little longer than iOS. 

Q: Can I test the app? 
A: We are done testing iOS and are almost ready to launch, so everyone will be able to download it soon. We are SO flattered that many of you have asked to test it! However, we might need a couple more Android testers. We’ll put more details about that on Twitter as we know more.

  • So excited about this app! I too have had a difficult time finding an app that enhances colors in my photos.The before and after photos are awesome! I can’t wait to see those results in my own photos!

  • Wow, I honestly wouldn’t have thought I could be convinced to buy another photo editing app (I have several already)…but I have to say this looks really wonderful! I don’t even like to use filters on my instagram pics anymore but making colors pop and CURVES!!? Wow.

  • This won’t be like the ABM app wait, promise. We’re talking a matter of weeks, tops. Believe or not, we started development on both at the same time. Our lead developer just got a job at Google right in the middle of the project, so we had to replace him. And Android is just harder. But don’t worry. We got you!

  • I am so excited about this! I rarely use many filters because I find the distort the colours of my instagram photos rather than enhance them. Brightness,exposure, contrast and all that messing around instead. Can’t wait for android!!!

  • Ooh I love this! Cant’ wait for the release! As someone who doesn’t have a dslr, I use my phone for almost all of my photos, including my product photos! So a good editing app on my phone goes a long way 🙂

  • So excited for this! It looks well set to stand on par with even VSCO! I mean, CURVES!? You can’t beat that! It’s wonderful how the color-enhancing concept ties in really well with ABM values, and I can appreciate that. I’d be more than willing to buy this app when it’s out for Android. Heck, I didn’t even spend a single dime on VSCO!

  • This is seriously like the perfect app I have been waiting for in my life! It is always so hard to boost the saturation and then move the photo into a 2nd app to get the whites bright. YAY!!! Can’t wait + congrats!

  • This app will be free, with in-app purchases. For free you really get a lot and can get a VERY good feel for the app. Even one of my favorite filters comes for free. The purchases are more packs of filters and effects that are REALLY awesome.

  • Insert shocked/pumped emoji* this looks life changing! Really! I love photoshop but I hate how frustrating it is to have to edit my iPhone photos on my computer to get the results I want. This looks like it could eliminate so much extra work. I can’t wait for this! 🙂

  • So excited for this app. This is something I’m also looking for since some apps that brightens/ enhances my photos changes the colors. Sometimes blue becomes black or orange becomes red. I’m an android user and I’m willing to be a tester if you’re still looking for more 🙂

  • If you’ve used curves in Photoshop, it’s similar to that. If not, it’s a way to edit brightness, contrast, color, everything really! You can create your own custom filters with just that one tool. Can’t wait for you to try it!

  • I believe they had a post a while ago about why the ABM app will NEVER be updated for Android.
    Something about losing the license file, which would require them to re-list the app in the Android store as a completely new and separate app.

  • Hey Anna,

    Yes, Shayne is correct. We *cannot* update the Android version of the ABM app. If there were any way we could, we would have done it last year. We’re so sorry to you, our users, but it was also a huge loss for our business and really just a huge bummer all around. We’re not working with new developers (and more caution) to ensure that that mess doesn’t happen again.

    HOWEVER, moving forward!

    Our new app is FREE. That means you can try it and make sure you love it before you spend any money (or if you’re happy with what it comes with, you never have to spend any money). And I’m really excited for you to try it. We’re so excited that we got to develop this new (free!) app for Android as well as iOS. Hope you love it!!!

  • I’m having issues with purchasing the $7.99 pack from your in-store link on the app. It exits me out of app everytime I click on the purchase price…it might be your app is really popular right now. Should I just check back tomorrow?

  • Loving this app!!! I just bought all of the packs on my iPad and came over to my iPhone and they didn’t transfer even though it’s under the same account. Advice on that?? Don’t want to have to buy the packs twice and obviously not always on one device.

  • Hey ABM, like the new app! Quick question on syncing between devices. The “follow me” filters (email and instagram) were unlocked on my iPad, but when I went to use the app on my phone, they were not unlocked. While this is not a big issue on the free “with action” filters (as I can easily click through), I wondered if the purchased filters would be available to all devices or if each devices requires its own purchase? None of my other apps require separate purchases, so I am hoping yours doesn’t either! =] Thanks for clarifying!

  • Hi Michelle! Glad you’re loving the app :)) You should be able to restore you purchases from both devices. Just click on the shop button at the bottom of the app and then scroll down until you see the restore purchases button. Let us know if you need anything else! (hello AT acolorstory DOT com) -Jacki

    I just had purchased all the filters a couple weeks ago on my iPhone 5s and just upgraded to the iPhone 6. How do I retrieve what I had just recently purchased for the app?

  • I had A Beautiful Mess and loved it. Just upgraded to Color story, with the year subscription, but where are the doodles and text? That was what I loved most. I have 3 days…my 20 other “filter apps” can do the same for free. I wanted the doodles and texts
