While baking this the other morning Trey asked, “What are you making?” And I said, “A red velvet bundt cake. You’d like it. It’ll have a cream cheese glaze.”
You might not know it by looking at him, but he’s a cream cheese kind of guy. While I am a red velvet kind of girl. I love anything chocolate, and somehow, adding the red color just makes it feel more fancy. If you are anything like us, cream cheese or chocolate fans, then you’ll love this cake. This would make an excellent holiday cake too. It’s super easy to make while still looking pretty cute. And if you’re making food for other people it’s always a bonus if it turns out cute. ๐
Red Velvet Bundt Cake, slightly adapted from Sprinkle Bakes (LOVE her blog!)
1 1/4 cups vegetable oil
1 cup buttermilk
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 tablespoon red food coloring
1 teaspoon white vinegar
2 1/2 cups flour
1 3/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 tablespoon cocoa powder
First, divide this recipe in half if you want to do the marbled look. It can be tricky to divide a recipe, the key is to start with the eggs. If a recipe calls for an odd number of eggs, it’s probably not a great idea to try and divide it into two parts. But, since this recipe calls for two eggs we can more easily cut it in half to make two batters that will be two different colors. Also, make sure that only one of the batters gets the red food dye and cocoa powder. First whisk together the wet ingredients: oil, buttermilk, eggs, vanilla extract and vinegar, In one of the bowls also add in the food coloring. Then stir in the dry ingredients: flour, sugar, baking soda and salt. In the red bowl also add the cocoa powder. Lightly coat a bundt pan with cooking spray. Spoon the batters into the pan randomly. You want to avoid creating all one layer of the same color batter.ย Use a knife to gently swirl the batter around a little. This will make the cake look marbled once baked. Now bake at 350ยฐF for 40-42 minutes. Until a toothpick inserted in the cake comes out clean. Allow to cool before adding the glaze.Cream Cheese Glaze, makes about 2 cups
4 oz softened cream cheese
1/2 cup powdered sugar
a pinch of salt
3-4 tablespoons whole milk
With an electric mixer whip the cream cheese. You really want your cream cheese to be softened first because this will ensure your glaze won’t have any lumps. Add in the sugar and salt and blend together until smooth. Add in 3 tablespoons of milk and whip together. If the glaze still seems too thick add another tablespoon of milk.Pour the glaze over the warm cake. Add sprinkles if you’re a sprinkles kind of girl. That’s right, live dangerously. ๐ Enjoy! xo. I love Red Velvet cake and that looks lovely! I will have to make this for Christmas this year. Thanks for sharing –
Yum! Childhood cake, although without cream cheese and food coloring and going by the name of marmorguglhupf.
My grandmother’s recipe calls for three eggs, so I make one batter and divide it in two just before adding the chocolate.
So yummy! Loving your recipes! ๐

Isn’t that interesting? I’ve never had red velvet cake and until now had no idea it was chocolate cake with red food colouring in it. For some reason I thought it had cherry juice in it or something more complicated like that. This cake seems fairly easy to do and looks very delicious, so consider it added to my ‘must try’ list ๐ And I’m with Trey on the cream cheese!
This looks and sounds so yummy! xx

Ah! Amazing!! Need to make this ASAP!!
You could just divide the dough into two equal parts after preparing it, so you don’t have to divide the recipe. Wouldn’t that be way easier?!
Red velvet is my favorite, this has made it to the top of my to make list!
Love red velvet! Bundt cakes always turn out so cute ๐

This post inspired me to make a (slightly)similar cake myself! I made a three-layer Devil’s Food Cake with cream cheese frosting. I put white sprinkles on it because I thought it looked so pretty in this post. It looks like snowflakes and adds the perfect put together tough.
