Hi, it's Sarah Sherman Samuel here again from, Smitten Studio & A Sunny Afternoon, with another fun DIY. I wanted to spruce up the flooring in my new studio (dreaming I had the funds to install beautiful cement tile like these), and I realized the least expensive and biggest impact would come with painting the existing tile. I wanted the floors to have some personality but not compete with all the patterns I create for my A Sunny Afternoon products, so I came up with the floor design to compliment a couple of my favorite prints (like here and here).Supplies needed for this are: 1. paint roller 2. 2"-3" paint brush 3. floor paint, I used this one in white. 4. poster board 5. Xacto knife 6. 1" foam brush
Once I had all the dark triangles down I mixed in a few metallic gold ones to give it a little more dimension. The gold paint I used is just craft paint so I am not banking on the fact that it will last forever, but it isn't a high traffic area and even if it eventually gets scuffed up I wouldn't mind. I would not recommend using that type of paint for this in large amounts or high traffic areas. If you want the best long term results, I would say stick with the floor paint. And that's it! These little triangles will definitely put an extra skip in my step while I'm at the office. Would you, or have any of you, tried painting a floor? xo Sarah

I wish I could do that too, but I am renting my house and such changes I think will not appreciated by the owner and the dark wooden floors of the house π

Shut the front, back, and garage doors. THIS IS PERFECT. I love everything about it! It’s like someone dumped a bunch of giant confetti on the floor so there’s a party 24/7!

Lovely! Too bad I am renting…one day!
OK, so where is that awesome mirror from, and what about that couch and chair?! The floor is cool, but its all the other decor items I noticed!
This I so, so cool, I really like the random placement of the triangles and the unexpected gold. I bet it feels a lot lighter than the dark floor tiles too

amazing!! Rara from RepeatPiece
This looks so cool!
Just curious what makes floor paint, floor paint? Is this just specific for tile or do you think it would adhere to linoleum?
I really like this! I think to make it even easier you could just cut out triangles from contact paper and stick them on. Then they could be removed if you wanted.
That is so cute…

That’s so awesome! If I didn’t live in a rented apartment, I would do this in my living room, except with stars. π
Really cute! I don’t know if I’d have the lady-balls to put paint on my floor, but it is definitely cute!

Would this floor paint work for laminate flooring? If not, do you know of any product that does?
Thank for the advice in advance xx
Hmm I like the idea of stencils on the floor. And that mirror is super cute, Love it!

Would this project work on linoleum, or must the floor be tile?
What a fun idea! Love the look of painted white floors and the triangles are the perfect addition.
I’m in the process of switching up my kitchen floors and this is the best idea! Thanks! http://www.ashleykiraand.wordpress.com

The floor looks so cute. I love thrifty DIY’s, to spruce up a space until you have the budget to do exactly what you want. So creative and really lovely.

a small, inexpensive project with such a big (and awesome!) impact!!
high five, my dear.
Very cool! It’s funny because I just got a funky cake plate that has the same triangular kind of pattern on it. You can see it here:

This is so cute! I love how it brightened up the room. I painted our bedroom floor this summer. Lots of work but worth it. Thank you for sharing!
So fun!! It looks like confetti, party time! π
This looks awesome and I HATE to be a buzzkill, but painting your floor like this is NOT sustainable long-term. The never-ending list of every day wear & tear and traffic across your floor does really limits the life and vibrancy of painting your floor. Pets, furniture, oils from feet/skin, material, etc etc will scuff, dull the color, and eventually turn your white floors a murky shade of yellow, regardless of the method and frequency of which you clean the floor. My career has allowed me to try a version of this very tutorial, and variations of others, several times and the result is always the same. It’s a fun and vibrant look, but please just be prepared for multiple “refreshers” to your floor as you go!
Love white floors but i am not sure about the result if i try it myself…
such a cool idea! so pretty and unique

That is a great idea to use contact paper! I rent a small place and really wanted a blackboard wall, but couldn’t commit to paint. Instead I used blackboard contact sheets to cover our old (and gross colored) fridge. It was the perfect compromise!
What a fun idea! I love the way it looks on the white floor.
Lovely idea!!

This is a great idea for a floor! The bloggers over at Young House Love recently stenciled one of their floors and they went over it with a coat of some sort of sealer afterwards. Did you guys do that too?

Do you think this would work over peel & stick tile? It looks similar to mine, but I was afraid of the result with the seams…
Love it Sarah β a nice and simple way to liven up a tile floor.

Amazing floor! π
Would the floor paint work on concrete flooring (indoors)? I don’t want to deal with pealing paint every few years but I LOVE this idea!
AMAZING!

Painted floors make me so nervous because I had a bad experience with a chippy basement one…but this is gorgeous!! π Love the little pattern!
This is a great idea. Probably not so back-breaking either…
Amaaaaazebaaaaaalls!! What an improvement! Love how it subtly compliments the other gold elements in the room <3 Good flow here, and a great focal point! x
We painted my brother’s bedroom floor when we removed the carpet. We just went with a brown because he had so much else going on in the room, but this is awesome! I am definitely inspired!
I love this so much!!!
this is so super cute. i love the little pops of gold amongst the black & white.
I am adding this to my “have to do at our next house” list! What a great idea!
Love the textures. I was also thinking to decorate my home like this after seeing this designs.
