We've really been enjoying this "At Home With…" series. Our next guest is Abi Porter. She is here to share a space in her lovely new home with us! "Just two months ago we moved from a tiny apartment to a larger 1912 craftsman home in northeast Portland. Trying to fill in the extra space has been a little challenging on a limited budget, but we're adding to it little by little and making it work! One of my favorite parts about the house is a little living room we have connected to our bedroom. It's awkwardly shaped but the perfect place to cozy up to read a book and drink tea. We're still working on some renovations (I can't wait to paint that trim white!), so the walls are still bare. But let's be honest. I'm pretty indecisive when it comes to wall decor, so they may be bare for quite some time." "My husband and I have very different styles. I'm a minimalist, and he would prefer to have the wall covered in movie posters. Oh my! The painted black skull was our compromise in this room. It's minimal enough for me and quirky enough for him." "We've lived here just over two months, so it still feels brand new. And we're figuring what works and what doesn't. I'm a compulsive room re-arranger, so it's already been changed about ten different times. I'm really looking forward to adding some more comfy vintage pieces as budget allows. We're also working on painting all the trim white and giving all the walls a fresh coat too, it's amazing how much trim can change the look of a space." Thanks so much, Abi, for sharing your space with us! You can stop by and say "hello" to Abi over on her blog, Vanilla and Lace. xo.

The details makes this apartment so cute. I love that this “at home with” is a work in progress! (sometimes it’s depressing to see “perfect” homes…) And the way that she and her husband found such a fun compromise. Inspiring!
Abi, come decorate my house please. ๐
Also I am really enjoying this series as well! Great idea!
Oregon represent! <3
I love this Hudson Bay blanket. Great space, there is so much potential. ๐
I love the chalk board in green…it’s actually quite rare to see a chalk board that isnt black now! Just beautiful!

I love it! I totally know how the trim can change everything, we have dark wood trim allll throughout our house just like that and painting it white (slowly) has made the BIGGEST difference. it truly is a breath of fresh air!
Abi, while I’m normally with you about simplified, white trim, the brown trim actually gives this space a vintage-y vibe! The brown on the chairs and the chalkboard really make the brown wall trim look meant to be!
Such a beautiful start!
Lovely. creative home.
Hard to read the model, but is that Minolta an SRT 202 (or 201)? I have the same one. It’s my baby. ๐
Very nice pics. I like that style. Have a great day.

“The painted black skull was our compromise in this room.” That gave me a laugh, reminds me of myself when decorating. I just found this blog a couple days ago and have been loving it!

Love it ! so beautiful !
have a look at my new post: http://www.thestilettoholic.com/
I actually like the trim the way it is, at least on the floor. I might just paint the window’s trim white.
I would love to have an extra room attached to the bedroom- so many possibilities! I think I would turn it into my craft room.. or a giant closet ha!
So cute! Great Post! xoxo

Thank you for posting a Portland home! I am trying to figure out my sense of style in this new city and I love seeing what other Portlanders are doing ๐
I’m more into the more decorated places but this one’s nice too. Plus, I love Abi’s jumper. Nice post xo
I love the chalkboard at the entry. Perfect for leaving notes for someone as they come in.

That home is gorgeous! I love those floors and i want that point blanket!
I have always been drawn to simplicity, the white scheme makes the home feel spacious and relaxing. Love it!
love the clean look to the place. my eyes bulged when i read “I’m a compulsive room re-arranger” — that is so me. I even did it to my office space and drove my co-workers nuts!
What a beautiful home! I love how simple and clean and minimalist everything is.

I’m sorry… but “this black skull was our compromise”?!?! One tiny little black skull? Coming from the ‘cluttered is homey’ school of design that your husband hails from, it doesn’t sound like much of a compromise to me! *laughs. But, it’s still a beautiful room, just don’t kid yourself that it is anything but completely minimalist. ;p
Love it! Very calm feeling, I love the simplistic look!
Do you know where can I get that origami fox?
Such a beautiful place! Great layout! x

My husband and & I are opposites too! He would prefer to live in a white box and I want lots of color and texture. It keeps us balanced I guess but some days it gets frustrating when I want to paint the walls and he won’t allow me! ๐
I love this space! So sparse but warm and relaxing. I like that you are not just cramming it full of cheap stuff but waiting and selecting perfect things as you find them. I think it will be very lovely with white trim. I love a minimalist look!
Oh what a shame she’s planning on painting the trim… it’s beautiful! And just think how many year it’s lasted without someone else painting it:/
Love her style though!
So simple but I do love that style of house.
Hi, visit me on my blog.

Really beautiful and I absolutely love the black skull.
Pretty but it needs more stuff. Too empty.
These matters are very much information oriented that make me aware of these facts been mentioned.

Lovely home!!!
Please please please don’t paint that beautiful trim! ๐ That style is so unique to homes from that era… if you want white trim I’ll totally rip out all of our white moldings and do a switch with you! ๐
But seriously, it does remind me of this gorgeous house: http://www.jhinteriordesign.com/glamorous-four-square/
Beautiful home – clean. classic. it’s awesome. I also love this is a work in progress, like my own new home. I’d love to know more about the pieces. Where did she find the chairs and dresser? Are they new or vintage pieces. I’ve been looking for something just like them. I actually like the brown trim. It seems perfect.

Yayyyy Portland!
I would keep the trim because I like keeping vintage details but congrats on the house! I’ve been looking into buying here in Portland as well.
I love how she uses the space with what little furniture she has. It’s empty enough to look neat and clean while still having enough stuff to look lived in. The details really make the space. Like the little skull, or the camera or how the plants and patterned sweater/blanket (I’m not sure what it is) really add a pop of color to make it all interesting.
This “At home with…” series is a cool idea. ๐
I love the “At Home With…” series, always full of inspiration!
