tons of great inspiration here! I’m always on the look out for a cool way to display my instagrams!
I haven’t blogged about it, but I did do a neat little DIY for this week for coloured popcorn that would make a great gift for a teacher/neighbour/hostess.
All you need is:
-food colouring
-un-popped popcorn kernels
-a glass bowl or measuring cup
1) Pour your popcorn into your bowl or measuring cup. It’s important to use glass, since plastic will stain.
2) Add food colouring. I added about 50ml of colouring to about 1 1/4 cups popcorn. You don’t have to be super exact here, as a general rule, about three quarters of your kernels should be submerged.
3) Let it sit for a day. You’ll need to stir it every once in a while to make sure every kernel is coated evenly, but mostly you can just leave it alone. (At first you might find the colour isn’t “sticking” to the kernels, but give them time, it will turn out)
4) After 12-24 hours there should be little to no wet food colouring left and your popcorn should be a vibrant colour. Pour out onto a baking sheet to help the kernels dry out again. Let that sit for another day.
5) Make it pretty! I layered red and green kernels in a mason jar for a Christmassy effect. It’s so pretty it doesn’t even need to be wrapped, just tie a bow around the top. You could do them with more than two colours and layer for a rainbow effect, or mix together for a confetti look. You could even to just one colour, like blue or pink for a baby shower.
When popped, the popcorn will still be mostly white, with flecks of colour. Have fun!

Very rad presents! Coffee syrup just looks awesome! To contribute, here at Vintage Pie we made a free printable gift tag out of a 1930s ‘While Shepherds Watched their Flocks’ music sheet, which we’ve then placed into an empty tall jar and filled with fancy lollies…super simple and looks adorable in a milk bottle-y type way.
