Cranberry Red Wine Spritzer

Red wine spritzerAs you know, I have a deep love for white wine spritzers. And I don't want to be a fair-weather friend, but white wine spritzers seem so summertime to me. Where Elsie and I live, it's fall (in case you haven't heard us mention this yet). And yet it's not quite mulled wine weather. So what's a girl to do? Behold friends: cranberry red wine spritzers.

Needed: 1 bottle of red wine, 1/3 cup sugar, 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon (or a few cinnamon sticks—I was out) 1 cup chopped cranberries and club soda to serve.

Chop cranberries in half. Then fill to a cup. You don't need them to be finely chopped. In a small pot, combine the wine, sugar, cinnamon (sticks) and cranberries. Bring to a boil and stir to dissolve the sugar. Reduce heat to a simmer and allow to cook for 12-15 minutes until wine has slightly reduced (if youre wine reduces much faster turn the heat down or remove from heat entirely). Allow wine to cool and remove cranberry pieces. Then chill in the refrigerator. When you are ready to serve, fill a glass with half wine and half club soda.
Red wine and cranberryFor the cranberry garnish simply skewer cranberries onto a small wooden stick (mine are kabob sticks). Rinse with water and generously sprinkle with sugar. Then freeze for an hour or overnight so the sugar adheres to the cranberries.

I really liked this as a winter replacement for white wine spritzers. This cranberry red wine version felt a little bit more fancy, and the addition of cinnamon made it feel festive too. 🙂 xo. Emma
