We are dog lovers here at A Beautiful Mess! I thought it would be fun to try and create homemade dog treats for my little Pug, Love Love. This was something I didn't have any experience with so I did some research on the internet to see if the ingredients I planned to use where doggie safe. These dog treats contain whole wheat flour, oats, peanut butter and pumpkin. From what I read this is all perfectly acceptable. But I do want to note that these are meant to be treats and not a dog food replacement. Although there is some nutritional value in these they should still be given only as a little treat during their regular diet. Also, I recommend using organic peanut butter with no sugar added. If you can't find this at your local store you might consider making your own, it's easy.Peanut Butter and Pumpkin Dog Treats, makes one dozen.
Needed: 2 cups whole wheat flour (use another kind of flour if your dog is sensitive to wheat), 1 cup oats, 1/4 cup peanut butter, 1/3 cup pumpkin and 1 cup water.

The recipe sounds great, and yes this treats are not for every day, also please you need to check if your dog is allergic, sometimes happens ๐
Pumpkin actually induces vomiting in dogs :
Oh this is fantastic, Emma! My boyfriend and I just got our little pup four weeks ago (Peanut – he can be found on the blog) and we have been thinking of making dog food ourselves. And what better way than to start it off with some treats. Thanks for sharing!

My step mom makes these for her dogs and gives them out during Christmas, so when all the adults and kids are munching on sugar cookies the pups get their own treat also! Great post ๐
I’ve found that my dog loves carrots in dog treats and I always add some local honey to help with her allergies.
Oh my goodness – Iยดll better not show this to my pup or sheยดll force me to stay up all night making them..! ๐
Soooo yummy fotos!!!
Welcome to my blog: http://stylethisworld.blogspot.com/
my pups would love! that last pic kills me!

Since wheat products are like junk food for dogs, you could use rice flour. It’s a bit more expensive but it’s healthier. Up the pumpkin or the water a little to make them a bit softer.
aw, too cute!

I made some homemade peanut butter ones with whole wheat flour, I’ll have to try this pumpkin recipe soon. I’m sure my 3 will love them!
looks cute and yummy! i am sure my dog would approve. in response to an earlier comment, grains are safe for dogs as long as they are cooked. and since these are baked, they should be okay.
I’ve been wanting to try making doggie treats for a while now. This recipe looks yummy!
YAY vegan dog cookies ๐ Amazing, thanks for the recipe, Emma ๐ Hamlet will love ’em.
Certainly are only for animals? They look delicious, and one might be tempted myself;) http://www.studiodar.pl

i don’t have a dog, but now i want to make some for someone with dogs.
Great idea and hilarious photo of your pug! Altering the recipe to be grain-free would be even better, thanks for writing that note about being careful with wheat allergies, Emma! Have you seen those little ice cube trays in the shape of dog bones? Those would be good for freezing pumpkin as another fun treat ๐

That last pic, with the pug, is too cute!!! I don’t have a dog, I have a bearded dragon named Persephene but if I did, this little guy would be mine! Awe:)
I’m soooo gonna make these for my little furry.
Did you use actual pumpkin or pumpkin from a can?
