DONUTS!!!!!!!! It's exciting. I adore donuts, they are such a fun breakfast treat. But they can be a little difficult and time consuming to make from scratch. An easy alternative is biscuit donuts. What are biscuit donuts, you ask? Well… uh… they're, like, donuts made from store-bought biscuits. Here's how to make your own biscuit donuts with homemade chocolate glaze.
To make the donuts you will need 1-2 canisters of biscuits and enough oil to fill a pot so the donuts can float when frying. The amount of oil can vary greatly depending on your pot. I usually use vegetable or canola oil when frying.Use a small biscuit cutter or the top of small bottle or lid to cut holes in each biscuit. You can discard these or make donutholes from them. Guess which I do… yep, donut holes (you know me!). Fry the donuts in oil that is around 350 F. If you don't have a candy thermometer then you can test your oil by using the donut holes. You want the donut to fry in the oil for 2-3 minutes on each side so that it is cook through but not burnt. As you fry your donuts remove to a plate or tray lined with paper towels to remove excess oil.Homemade chocolate glaze, makes about 2 1/2 cups. Recipe adapted from here.
Needed: 1/2 cup butter, 1/4 cup whole milk, 2 tablespoons light corn syrup, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 3 1/2 ounces dark chocolate and 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar. In a small pot over medium heat combine the butter and milk. Stir until melted, then add the corn syrup, vanilla extract and chopped dark chocolate. Stir until completely melted then remove from heat. Whisk in powdered sugar 1/2 cup at a time. Dunk donuts in glaze, add sprinkles if you must.
Enjoy these with coffee or milk and impress your family with these super easy donuts! xo. Emma

Oh they look so pretty and delicious!
I love doughnuts, and I used to eat one or two when some friends and I went to a local doughnuts shop. There were many doughnuts shops in Japan, and I miss all the delicious doughnuts.

Yummy yummy yummy looks delicious!
My mom used to make these for me and my brothers as kids. They are delicious beyond description fresh out of the oil! I’ve gotta stay clear of this recipe though, I am quarter aged and the donuts would adversely affect the waistline ๐ Can’t stop at one! It’s impossible.
I swear I want to make EVERY SINGLE RECIPE you two post. I mean on both blogs. Aaah what will I do with myself?!
I love these. Want to make them so badly now!!
These look so delicious, I’m not even a huge fan of donuts but I must try them soon.

Wow. Just…wow. This looks amazing.
My parents made these when we were kids, except they usually made doughnut holes that were dipped in cinnamon sugar – so good! ๐
What are biscuits? This looks like such a fun, yummy snack!
i enjoy making these with cinnamon + sugar. but there’s always too many for just husband + me!
I was really confused at first then i remembered the USA and UK version of biscuits is very different!! Thank goodness for ‘Drivers, Dine ins and Dives’ or I would never learn all these quirks … cilantro and scallions to name a few!!

I was wondering if I could ask for a small favor? I noticed that you ladies redirected your blog from the typepad address to just abeautifulmess.com. I love it!
But some of your newer posts aren’t showing up in my bloglovin feed anymore and I can’t follow abeautifulmess.com because no one claimed it and added it to bloglovin. Would it be too much trouble if you claimed your blog? I’d love to keep getting daily updates from you ladies as I love it.
Thanks a bunch!
Oh man, donuts are my weakness! Looks delish~*

now my mouth is watering!!
awesome! these remind me of when my grandma used to buy those pillsbury biscuit dough’s that come in a can, biscuits was the last thing she made with the though, she would use a bottle cap to make a hole in the middle of the divided dough and fry it!, then she would sprinkle with sugar.
I have made these many times! I also love the simplicity (and the cheapness!) and they are so versatile – powdered sugar, regular sugar, cinnamon and sugar….well, you get the idea;) Great post!

i live in australia and have never heard of biscuit donuts before!! look fantabulous! one Q tho, what sort of biscuits do u mean?
Thats so funny I just made this same recipe a few days ago from a post I saw on a food blog called Ya Salam Cooking it was so good.
Maybe this is a stupid question, but what do you mean by biscuits? To me that just means “cookie”, but I have a feeling you are being more specific. Can you show a picture of them before you fry them or suggest a brand?
Holy yum! than look really good.

At the beginning of the summer I tried my hand at making biscuit donuts this way! So awesome and these pictures look SO good!
These are great. As kids, we used to make biscuit donuts with our grandma pretty regularly and would always keep our empty push pop candy tubes for cutting out the middles. Thanks for helping to resurrect that memory.
I am so going to have to try this recipe! They look beyond delicious!
That is possibly the most idyllic thing ever…

oh to make donuts. it is on my “to try” list. cannot wait to try these.
@non-Americans To try and help. The biscuits they are talking about are not cookie type biscuits. The closest thing I would think would exist in other countries would be a scone, but more flakey and savoury.
You can make your own biscuit recipes like this: http://www.joyofbaking.com/Biscuits.html but I don’t think the pre-packaged kind they’re referencing can be found outside of North America. At least I haven’t been able to find them in Australia.
Gah I’ve been wanting to try this! You make it look so easy, I think I need to make these this weekend!
These look so delicious – making me hungry! x

Oh my goodness, these look mouthwatering! Doughnust are one thing I have not tried to make yet in the pastry department, I always feel just a tad overwhelmed!
Being an Aussie, I was confused too! Biscuits to us are cookies to you. Stephanie May, biscuits in America are more like what we would call scones. They are delicious!
HOLY MOLY GUACAMOLE!! yes, this recipe made me say that ๐
One day I was buying biscuits at the market and a cashier told my sister and I to try making donuts out of the biscuits. Well, we tried it and they were delicious with just sugar on them. I have got to try the glaze, though. It sounds wonderfully tasty. You’re lovely, thank you!
YUMMY DELICIOUSNESS.
We made these at camp one year, but we covered them in sugar! so yummy can’t wait to try them with chocolate! ๐
I want to make these! The only thing is that I dont know how to form them. Does anyone know?
