If you like iced coffee, then you will probably love coffee soda. I know I do! I talked a little bit about coffee soda in this 5 Cold Brew Recipes post from last year. But with the weather staying hot lately, I’ve been back on the coffee soda train and I just felt like maybe it deserved its own post. 🙂 This is a super easy recipe—just two ingredients!
And for anyone who hasn’t tried a version of coffee soda yet, let me tell you what I like about it:
-It’s cold. Obviously, this is a major plus in the summer months.
-It’s refreshing. Sometimes I’m just in the mood for bubbles/sparkling water. I especially love it when my stomach feels a little off (like PMS or a hangover—just being honest!).
-It’s elevated coffee. I love coffee and drink it almost every day. So I love an option that makes my coffee routine extra special without necessarily adding extra calories or sugars.
The most important part of coffee soda is the coffee. Cold brew is best here. I am personally still loving my Kitchen Aid Cold Brew Coffee Maker, but another good option is a cold brew toddy. Cold brew is best here not only because it will be a better quality (since we’ll be serving it on ice) but you’ll want a very strong coffee since we’ll essentially be “watering it down” with the sparkling water/soda.
Since we’re all friends here, though, I must confess that I do sometimes just save leftover hot coffee in a sealed container in my refrigerator to use in coffee soda, too. Waste not, want not. It’s still very good, but cold brew is better (usually stronger too).
Simply combine the cold brew coffee with club soda, sparkling water, or a ginger beer. I tend to use flavored sparkling waters (like La Croix) and my favorite combinations lately are lime or cherry with coffee. I personally don’t love the coconut flavor but I could see it actually being quite good here. So if anyone tries that, let me know! xo. Emma

Yum!!! Sparking coffee is so refreshing and so easy to make at home!
I’ll have to try this with cold brew! My version of coffee soda is basically an iced sparkling Americano: a couple shots from my Nespresso machine poured over ice, topped off with sparkling water. I usually add a little bit of whatever homemade simple syrup (lavender and mint are two favorites) I have around and then often a splash of cream/half-and-half. So good, but it does fizz up like a volcano science project when the espresso + soda water meet. I’m guessing that’s not the case with the cold brew, which sounds like a nice advantage.
Hmm. Interesting. Yes, you are correct. I have never had the cold brew coffee fizz up when it hits the sparkling water. The water itself fizzes some (as all soda or sparkling waters do). I wonder what’s in the espresso that does that?
Your recipe sounds really good! I personally haven’t mixed coffee and soda water but I know that cold brew coffee tends to be less acidic than coffee or espresso brewed with hot water so maybe that contributes to it fizzing when it mixes with the soda water.
I love toddy + cold brew with Coconut LaCroix! I’m about to try it with Trader Joe’s coconut cold brew concentrate. Yum!
Yes! I knew there would be at least one Coconut LaCroix lover out there—good to hear it does indeed go well with coffee. 🙂
I tried it this weekend with the TJ Coconut Cold Brew and it was surprisingly good!
Ah! Love this take on a summer classic. Those mugs are so cute too!!
Yum! This sounds SO delicious! Would never have even thought it was a thing 🙂

Never thought about soda and coffee! Going to make it soon!
I have been making coffee soda for years and all of my coworkers said I was nuts when I made
it at work. Thank you for validating me! I knew I was right and other people made this not just me! 🙂
I love coffee soda! I had my first on a recent trip to Nashville at Pinewood Social (actually on Elsie’s Nashville guide suggestion!) I loved it with the orange kick they did!
That sounds awesome, I definitely want to try this!

I’m not normally one for fizzy drinks, but you might have won me over with this one – it sounds so good! 🙂

I can’t believe I’ve never thought of using the coconut LaCroix to make a coffee soda! Brilliant. I keep Trader Joe’s coconut cold brew on hand throughout the summers, so I’m going to try this tomorrow. Thanks for the idea!
OMG. My husband and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about coffee soda since we tried it at Steadfast in Nashville. We wanted to remake that orangey flavor so I made a vanilla simple syrup and used 1:1 soda water to orange sparkling water (like la croix) and I ALMOST nailed it.
The recipe is really interesting. I love iced coffee too. Gonna try after giving birth to my baby :p
Coffee soda such a unique idea, I should really try this
this is genius!! i bet it would be good with orange la croix!
came to mind just a coupla days ago when I saw a(n) (organic) cold brew coffee concentrate the other day – might drop a tsp or so of maple syrup in when I do- keep ya posted-
