Emma has really fine hair, and it doesn’t keep curl very easily. She has always had very straight hair, even when we were little girls. Our sister-in-law, Sarah, showed us a new technique for curling this type of hair. This simple technique gave Emma the curliest hair she’s ever had. Enjoy!
1. Roll small strands of hair around your finger and pin to your scalp. 2. Continue until you have pinned all your hair up. 3. Use a flat iron to press each roll flat. 4. Unpin the rolls. As you’re unpinning, if you notice that you forgot to press one, simply pin it back up and press before letting it out again. 5. Use your flat iron to finish curling the tips. Spritz on a little hair spray, and you’re done!
Sarah did this technique on Emma’s hair early in the day, and it lasted the whole day! Even if you don’t have fine hair, this is a fun and unique way to curl your hair because it creates a different look than using a curling iron.

Wow! I have super fine hair that won’t hold a curl at all, so I’m excited to try this!
I like how the curls look at the end of the day and half up too :0)
Thanks for posting!
Oh my! I have super fine, straight hair, that has never, ever, held a curl, even with an entire can of hairspray (no joke, I was in a period play). I am so excited to have found this, and although I don’t own a flat iron, I have to find a friend with one to give this a try! Maybe I can finally sport curls~

Eep, I’m so excited to try this! I have equally fine hair (and the “ombre” fade like Emma, but mine is the result of growing out dyed hair!), and I usually walk around with my hair in silly little buns while it’s still damp. I never thought of using a flat iron!
Wow! I always wonder how people do that.

Wow!! I love this so much! Definitely going to give it a try:)

However, you look fantastic Emma!!

Just found out about your blog and I simply adore it, added you to my ‘Daily Read’ list straight away! 🙂
Have a great day and lots of love,

I do the Flat Iron Curl thing without pinning it all to my head – get great results from sort of twisting the iron around while pulling down. It makes fluffier curls, a bit less doll-like, but still cool an curly. I too have really fine hairs, but really thick hair so the whole “individual spinning + pinning” is a bit of an afternoon project on this head…. Love/r
love this! i can’t wait to try it myself.
thanks for sharing!
Cute! I’ve tried the flat iron curls without pinning it + I can never get it right. I’ll have to try this 🙂
thanks so much for this awesome and very helpful post!

I have really really fine hair too & it holds a curl for about 2 min before falling out usually. I’ll be trying this!
I hope it is as easy as it seems, because I never get great results when curling my hair! Thanx girls!!

Great way to get curls and it really does hold!! unfortunately I can’t do it on my own.
http://citeparadis.blogspot.com/
I should try that! My hair is very thick and heavy, not to mention straight as a board! Maybe this would help curls stay…
I’m going to show this to my sister. She can’t keep curls in her hair so I’m sure she’ll want to try this! Thanks for sharing 🙂
This is darling, Emma. I’ve often admired your dreamy, wispy locks but this look suits you just as well!
emma’s hair looks great, i will definitely have to give this a try!

Fantastic! I usually do pin curls overnight but they don’t turn out that nice. And sleeping on them is usually painful. I can’t wait to try this.
Definitely need to try this! My hair is pin straight and has never kept curls for very long! Now, I just need a flat iron, lol.
I love it! You don’t mention it, but have you used any styling product? Or just natural hair?
wow looks amazing! have to try this, thank you!
She looks so pretty in curls! My non-curl issues are on the other end of the spectrum…I have thick hair that won’t hold curl one bit.
Whaaaaaat! This rules! Thanks for sharing!

it’s so pretty, & i’ve never heard of this technique before. so excited to try it. 🙂
I love these curls! I can’t wait to try them myself. If they are as easy as they sound I might do this for my wedding day in June! 🙂 Thanks for sharing!
Curls never stay in my hair either! I definitely want to give this a try!
I wish I had tin or at least thinner hair. Love the idea though.

As another sufferer of crazy fine hair, I’m definitely going to have to try this out this weekend.
This is awesome! I have curly hair but I like to make them smoother with heat 🙂
Wow, this looks super pretty, but it must take forever! When I see how much time girls put into curling their hair I’m grateful for my curls (but not when I’m straightening them–that’s when I wish my hair was straight).
Wow – what a great idea! I try not to use too much heat on my hair (my hair is very dry as it is), but this looks like it produces a great result with minimal damage! I’ll have to give it a try 🙂
http://thejoyfulfox.blogspot.com
you look so gorgeous!
I curl my hair with a straightener all the time, but this looks way hard, and like too much of a hassle. All you have to do is grab a strand as if you are going to straighten it, then roll the straightener so the piece of hair is flipped, and then gently and slowly glide it down. Depending on your speed you will get loose, natural waves, or nearly perfect curls. 🙂

thanks for the tip!
I’ve always had super straight hair too.
never had curls hold up more than 30 mins.
SUch a good tip!
I think Emma and I might be hair twins. I have like supa dupa fine hair. To the point that when people touch it they say “ooooh it feels like baby hair” or some other nonsense like that. So in the past I have tried all sorts of rag rolling, pin curling, curling irons, curling rods you name it. And they TAKE FOREVER. I would say it takes even longer to curl fine hair because you have to use high heat, lots of hair spray, and hold it on the curling iron longer and above all this equals more damage. However, when I saw this tutorial I said what the heck and tried it. It literally took me 10 minutes to pin my hair up, then like 10 minutes to flat iron, and then I hair sprayed and my hair came out looking totally different than it ever has. I think I am going to hair spray it one more time then sleep on it to make it look more relaxed and messy.
So to wrap up this ramble please feature more fine hair tutorials for ladies like me and Emma.
Thanks.
love it!!!!!!

Wow, I am so anxious to try this! I find I get great results with the Karmin G3 Salon Pro, but I’m certain they’ll look even better if I use your method!
You really should advise people to use a heat protectant spray first…. flat iron curling RUINS YOUR HAIR!!!
Emma looks absolutely lovely with curls! 🙂
Thank you for the easiest flatiron tutorial ever..I can’t wait to try it!!! Hugs

So simple and beautiful i wish i thought of this before…sadly my hair is too short now 🙁
Oh my gosh this is awesome! I just tried it this morning and it totally works great! I have fine, thin hair and even have some short layers and it still worked like a charm. I used to use velcro rollers to get it curly but this is way faster and the curls look so natural! Plus, they really are staying curls and not falling out 🙂 Thanks for posting this!
my daughter has thick hair that won’t hold curl so I am definitely trying this!
So pretty!
I used your tip and did this for a wedding I had. It turned out great! It really helped and it was easy.
Thanks for posting 🙂
