Hi there! Tonight I thought it would be fun to share two super cute projects that A Beautiful Mess readers have shared with us! I love having a little craft time every weekend and these projects will definitely inspire you…
First up, Kirsty from Lovelies in My Life shares how to make this super cute jeweled collar! I just love those collars for the little ladies at
Crewcuts and was delighted when I came across a similar vintage version at my local antique market. I decided to turn it into a necklace! I'm not terribly good with a needle and thread, but even the most basic of sewing skills will work for you here! And this took no time at all to whip up.
Here's what you'll need: a pretty collar (you can purchase these at vintage shops or on Etsy!), ribbon (I picked a thin velvet), needle and thread. 1. Cut ribbon into 2 pieces, 14 inches each.
2. Sew ribbon onto the inside of collar, about 1 inch from the edge (I did so loosely, just in case I want to change the ribbon in the future). And voila, a pretty new accessory! It's a fun piece to add to many an outfit and versatile enough to wear dressy or even as an unexpected sparkle under a chunky cardigan. Try tying the ribbon in the front or in the back for a different look. Endless possibilities!
Next up, this incredibly cute dress ReStyle by Josie of Fine and Feathered. We love the new life she gave to this vintage dress!
Isn't the back cute? Love it! Thanks for sharing, Josie!
We hope you have a magical weekend! Are you planning any fun projects? xoxo. elsie

What fun projects! They are both so cute!!
I have a skirt I’ve been meaning to restyle … maybe I’ll finally get to it this weekend. 🙂
Beautiful projects and very inspiring! I spent my Friday night cuddled up with my needle, thread, and some feathers. Hope this crafting bug has bit me for the whole weekend I am having a blast.
I like all the designs which are unique and trendy…
I love the collar idea!

I think the dress was already so pretty. Why change it to something so mainstream. I feel bad that my children will not see such beautiful vintage dresses and furniture, I feel like they will go extinct soon. 🙁
WHY would you cut that dress!!!! So much nicer before.
this weekend i am doing projects with glass jars and making cauliflower pizza and coconut macaroons! yum!
Love the necklace!

That dress is so pretty! And the collar too.
Wow! What Josie did with this dress is truly amazing! I dream about such dress!
Love the collar, looks so expensive and would work all seasons. Afraid I have to agree with other about the dress: she’s obviously a talented lady but I’d rather pick an ugly dress and make it pretty than a beautiful dress and make it just pretty. Rx

I wish I had the time and skill to revamp vintage clothes, what a great way to upcycle 🙂
What a gorgeous collar, it would make any dress or cardigan look so fancy and luxurious!
I really love what Josie has done with the dress, Project Restyle is about developing old items that you have into something new and exciting. its easy to get bored of the shape of a dress that you’ve had for years, so instead of buying new why not change it into a totally new style for the new season!

I love your blog and all your sweet projects and decor ideas. I hope you don’t mind that i put your blog in a list of my top 5 blogs?
Thank-you

The dress was stunning before. The refit is cute, but it could have been done with a modern dress. Pulling apart a well-made vintage dress with such beautiful detailing is a crime.
That dress is so SO cute! I wish I had it in me to make something like this!

That is just beautiful!
Thank you so much for featuring my Dress ReStyle Elsie! I’ve been reading this blog for years and it’s quite magical to see myself on here!
I noticed a few people wondered why I restyled this dress when it was already “so pretty” and I just wanted to say that this dress is very deceiving on the hanger! I actually bought it thinking I would wear it how it was, but after trying it on I knew there was no way I could wear it like it was (the sleeves were INSANELY poofy and was generally really awkwardly cut!).
I promise I would never ReStlye an already pretty and wearable dress!
Thanks so much!
These are some great ideas! I always imagine what I would do to restyle an outfit, but I have yet had the courage to do it!
I’m a new reader to your blog! I just have to say how impressed I’ve been so far! You are so talented and adorable! I always feel happier after visiting. This blog is so helpful and beautiful,
Love the collar! I’m planning to hang something up in my room that my sister made for me 😉 Great post!
Great ideas! XOXO
I love that necklace! I haven’t ever seen collars like those around, but they look makeable with a little patience!
That necklace is absolutely beautiful and the back of that dress is sassy!

So cute! Normally I’d hate to mess with a vintage dress, but that restyle is really great 🙂
My plans aren’t that exciting, but I do have several dresses I really need to list in my Etsy, so maybe I’ll give that a go!

I love detachable collars and double love for those with pretty beads and crystals on them!
The restyle is amazing too!

Love the collar. It’s beautiful.
The sleeves were way cuter before she chopped them off!
🙁 The back of that dress is interesting and it’s great workmanship but I agree it was better before. Look at how cute the sleeves were. as I said though it’s nicely done at least 🙂
Love the collar! looks expensive and I love the idea of removable collars. 🙂
Love the sparkly collar!

LOVE LOVE YOUR BLOG!
Felicity Posted on hmmmm. I can totally see the sdcteuive power of the original video tutorial, it’s very clever with the sleeves into pockets thing, plus the faintly exotic (to me anyway) Australian (?) accent But honestly, the finished dress didn’t look all that good on her either. I am with Fanboy Wife on the final location of the pockets. Thanks for sharing! It strengthens my resolve to get my stacks of old tshirts etc into the trash or to the Goodwill sometimes it’s ok to just say no to re-cons!
