I'm so excited to share with you this incredible film that some of our dearest friends have spent the past few years creating! Linotype: The Film is a documentary centered around the Linotype type casting machine. Called the "Eighth Wonder of the World" by Thomas Edison!
The first time I heard about this project, I have to admit… I was a little jealous. These guys have traveled all over the US interviewing people about this amazing machine. So magical! It's such a beautiful story and so I wanted to share it with you!

Beautiful. I’ve never seen one in action before. But we had one in the foyer when I was interning at a local newspaper. And I couldn’t help but snap a few photos.

Oh my gosh, what a complex and extraordinary machine. I have a friend who’s well versed in this area and, if he hasn’t already been made aware of this film, I’ll be sure to fill him in. It looks to be, in equal parts, heartbreaking and innovation affirming. So neat.

That looks really interesting. It’s really crazy to think about what life was like before the computer. I remember using a typewriter as a kid, my sisters had our own little “newspaper” business. But even before the typewriter, I don’t know much about, so that would surely be fascinating to watch! Too bad they aren’t coming to Nashville.
Our dear friend, Tim Trower, took part in this film. He is a printer here in Spfld. I am proud to go see this. Thank you for promoting it!

SO watching this! LOVE IT. When I was in NOLA in 2009 we were tearing down an old printing press behind one of the houses that we were gutting, and I found two of these huge machines in this tiny house. I made sure they were not going to be thrown away – instead they were sold on Craigslist! What awesome contraptions!

I got to see a screening of Linotype last friday in New York and the movie was so good! Just how these machines work is so fascinating. My boyfriend is a type designer, so his entire office went to see it. Gotta love type nerds. I hope you get to see it too sometime soon! The director noted at the screening I was at that the DVD of Linotype is set to come out in early summer.
