This next D.I.Y. is incredibly cute and easy too! Kinsey made this ruched scarf with a pretty polka dotted lace. You don't need to own a sewing machine for this project and it only takes about 30 minutes to complete! Great gift idea? I think so.
1. Supplies Needed: You'll need a large strip of lace fabric appx 3 yards long x 12 inches wide, white embroidery thread, and scissors. 2. Cut fabric to size. Remember, depending on the size of the ruffles, your scarf length will be between 1/2-1/3 as long as your fabric is. Then, we started our first ruffle 2 inches from the side. We simply secured the first stitch with a knot and started stitching every 1/4 of an inch. (For larger ruffles make your stitches 1/2 or 1/3 of an inch) 3. Once there were a few stitches we lightly pulled our thread tight, causing the fabric to ruffle. When making the ruffles we made sure to not pull the thread too tight, but leave it slightly loose so that the ruffles are more spread out. The tighter your thread the shorter the scarf! 4.We did this until we got all the way to the end of the fabric, and then repeated the process on the other side to make two separate ruffles with about 8 inches in between. β₯
Here are three cute ways to style this scarf! I think it would be really cute with a school boy blazer and it's a piece that could transition into spring with a sundress too.
I hope you have fun creating your ruched lace scarf! XO, elsie + kinsey

I LOVE this! Definitely going to go through my stash for some lace. It’s so pretty!
I found your blog through a pin on pinterest — not this scarf (which is really cute, by the way), but a photo of lovely buttons. I never could find that photo of the buttons on your blog, but I have scrolled through pages and pages and I just wanted to say … I have really enjoyed it. From the vintage fashions to the quirky photos, from the wedding to the mini-golf dates, from the peach tarts to the artsy eye tips, your pages are just filled with fun. I especially like the bee hive tutorial. I’ve always wanted to try one. We’ll see. Thanks for being so willing to share! And if you ever figure out where that button photo is, I’d love for you to let me know. Haha! π
Another great DIY π My list of projects is growing + growing!

How totally awesome! I love that it doesn’t require getting the sewing machine out, either. I have one, but I don’t have enough space to just leave it out!

LOVE! I am going to DIY all my girlfriends’ gifts this Xmas & I am so bookmarking this one! Thanks!!
Because this scarf is ruched, seams won’t be noticible. You can spend more and get 1 yard of really nice lace, cut it into three strips, and sew them together at the end instead of just buying 3 yards of lace and having tonnes of fabric left over!
That’s amazing! I love all of your DIY fashions!
Hope you’re having a great week Elsie Cake!
So cute. I have a similar scarf, but I bought it. If I had know it was quite easy to do, I’d do it myself.
This is super cute! I will for sure be making one!
Hey! look at your blog! All new and shiny! i like this tutorial, it looks so cute!
