Goodbye, Benton House!

Elsie Larson home Dear Benton House,

Today we say goodbye. It’s weird, right? I swear just yesterday we were opening your doors for the very first time. Ugh—I could go on and on. But I’ll try not to cry too much.

Instead, let’s look at these photos of all the good times we shared….

Elsie Larson home (sniff, sniff)

Elsie Larson home We did so many projects… SO. Many. Projects.

I think I’ll miss this wall the most, though.

Elsie Larson home Elsie Larson home Elsie Larson home Elsie Larson home Elsie Larson home I’m gonna miss that porch. My favorite place to hang out during spring and autumn.

Elsie Larson home Ugh! Do you remember how tiny Penelope was when we first moved in.

I just can’t…

Elsie Larson home Elsie Larson home Elsie Larson home You were a really, really FUN house to decorate.

When we met, you looked like this—

BeforeBut after a few spa days and trips to the salon, you really found your fresh, new look. Woo woo!

Elsie Larson home Elsie Larson homeAh! We had the best time together. Thank you for all the good lighting, for not having ghosts and for being so understanding of all my decorating mistakes and redos. You’re so forgiving!

Elsie Larson home 1 Benton House, we’ll never forget you. Never ever.

Thank you for three amazing years. We’ll be sure to drive by and wave next time we’re in town.

LOVE YOU! Elsie + Jeremy, too.

  • Sorry Elsie! I am sure it’s really hard to leave a house that you love! Just curious, has it sold yet? Can’t wait to follow the progress on your new house!

  • We have moved so many times in the past 10 years, I don’t think we even had the time to make our home look as beautiful as these photos of yours! But I always take pictures of wherever we lived because I want to remember those special memories that took place in them, and just how they looked in the first place. I love your kitchen wallpaper (where did you get it from?) and your house looks so warm and inviting, esp. the deck.

We are hoping to buy a new house in the next year, and I can’t wait to transform it into a home. It’s great to know how much we can do ourselves when buying a house, not to let the kitchen be a dealbreaker! These posts provide lots of inspiration for that!

  • Aw, I really loved this post, Elsie! As someone who’s been moving around a lot the past couple of years, I can definitely relate. Saying goodbye to a wonderful house can be really hard – it’s a huge piece of your life! I can’t wait to see all the wonderful things you do in your new house though. 🙂

  • its hard leaving a house with so many memories! but make sure you welcome your new house with open doors (hahaha!)xx

  • BAHAHAHA the graphic at the end!

Husband and I had a last walk-through last night, then locked the keys inside. He detaches very easily and I anthropomorphize EVERYTHING so it’s not a good mix. I’m weepy and he’s like MEH.

We spent 7 years in our house. It was weird to see it so EMPTY (but WAY cuter than when we first got it…even empty. I mean, come on.)

Best of luck for your move!!

  • The Benton house is so charming! It’s sad to see you leave it but I am sure your next house will be equally as wonderful and will have great memories too

  • What a beautiful home you made for yourselves! The places we inhabit are such incredible reflections of our inner selves, so I am sure your next home will be just as magical. Thank you for sharing this–the feeling of leaving a place behind is powerful and I’m sure it wasn’t your easiest post to write!

  • I think it’s wonderful that you took the time to say goodbye to this beautiful house. It’s a hard transition, and it’s good to acknowledge that. But I believe more and more that buildings collect our energy (not very scientific of me, I know, I just have this feeling!) and you’ve done the house and its next owners a big favour by not only filling it with good energy but passing it on. Enjoy the process of getting to know your new home. We are two weeks into our new (old!) house and I’m determined to savour it despite the stress and mess! It already feels like home. Good luck in your journey!

  • It is such a beautiful house, but you’re about to fill a new one up with so many new memories and projects! Best of luck to you on your move!

  • Elsie and Jeremy what a beautiful HOME you made.
Just love all that you have done.

We’ve just moved house this year too and we have embarked on a whole new adventure.
Enjoy the ride, it will be amazing. Xx

I can’t wait to see what you create next

  • I love all of the projects you’ve done to the house! It’d be amazing to live in a place like that. I can’t wait to see the new place.

  • As hard as it must be to leave all those memories behind, here’s hoping you’ll love your new home even more and that you’ll have so much fun creating more amazing projects, spending time with each other and entertaining your family and friends. Best wishes for your big move!!

  • I’m late finding you so missed decorating Benton house. Love the look and thinking of stealing a few ideas i.e. paint or wallpaper in kitchen cabinets. Really looking forward to being on the ground floor of your journey in Nashville. Thank you.
