Hi Beautiful Mess readers!  I'm Danielle from Sometimes Sweet. When Elsie asked me to contribute a fun Halloween "treat" post to help usher in the opening of the new RVA shop, I was definitely excited! Growing up, my Mom was very hands-on and we made all sorts of crafts and treats to celebrate the fall holidays.  It was hard to pick just one from the huge arsenal of delicious snacks I have had up my sleeve for years (again, thanks Mom!), but I thought these spooky cupcakes would just be perfect!  A couple of days after I decided to share these treats I saw a similar version featured on the Martha Stewart website so I knew it was meant to be! If my Mom AND Martha approve, they must be good, right?

So, here you go- Spooky Witch Cupcakes, straight from my childhood and perfect for any Halloween celebration!  These are great too because the decorating is very open to interpretation, and kids (or grown up kids) will have a great time putting their own creativity into them.

What you'll need:
-chocolate cupcakes (I figured you guys probably already had your own recipe for this so I chose to omit these initial steps)
-green icing (you can use store bought or homemade vanilla and add in neon green food coloring to achieve a nice, creepy green)
-sugar cones
-milk or dark chocolate morsels
-candy for decorating: candy corns, Reese's Pieces or M&Ms, black licorice, etc.

Once you've baked your cupcakes, you're ready to decorate!

First, melt some chocolate in the microwave or on the stove top. Spread each cone with the chocolate, and put them in the freezer for about 5 minutes to harden up.  You can also use chocolate cones, but we've always dipped our own.  Plus, I think the chocolate adds some nice texture…and tastes a lot better!

Next, ice the cupcakes.  I used a neon green gel food coloring and had to add about five little squirts to achieve the perfect, creepy color of witchy green.

After you ice the cupcakes you can top them with the now hardened chocolate cone witch hats, and decorate.  Growing up we used black licorice pull-and-peel licorice for the witch's hair and eyebrows, but I couldn't find any so I just went ahead and chopped up regular black licorice and used that.  Outside of the cupcakes and icing, the photo below shows all the ingredients I used:

After you finish, you are left with these wonderful wicked witch cupcakes!  They're so fun to make and even more fun to eat!  Happy Halloween, and happy shop opening Red Velvet! xo. Danielle
