It's kind of a given that somewhere at some point in the moving process, a few items of yours will get broken or damaged. You could wrap everything in seven layers of bubble wrap and it will still happen. It's just one of the joys of moving. That being said, most of the furniture that went into the moving pod painted a light color had to be repainted once it came out on the other side, and I got a few major dings on some dark wood too that were a bit too obvious to ignore. So, what do you do when a furniture item needs a little help? Makeover!
We've had these side tables (I think they were from Target originally) for about five years now, and it took moving them to a new place for me to realize they were a bit dull (not to mention scratched now) and could use some sprucing up. Here's what I did to give them some new life:
First I took out the drawers, flipped the nightstand upside down, and used a jigsaw to cut the wooden legs flush with the bottom of the nightstand. Once the legs were off, I gave the wood a quick sanding and painted the body and drawers a glossy white.
Once the paint was dry, I installed leg plates onto the bottom of the nightstand and attached these mid-century legs that I painted gold.
I gave the round knobs a quick brush of spray paint and cut down this adorable (and removable!) wallpaper to fit the fronts of the drawers.
For the final touch, I added these brass campaign chest corners (product E307) to the front of the nightstand at the top and bottom, and my new nightstand was complete!
As you can see, this process resulted in quite the transformation! I can't even believe it's the same nightstand, and to say I love it is a bit of an understatement. The white looks so fresh with the gold accents and the palm paper is the perfect way to add some fun. I feel like I certainly made some lemonade out of my moving-related lemons on this one…xo. Laura

What a fun and bold look! Love this idea down to the gold addition on the corners! The great thing is that it’s totally customizable with any pattern, and that would be easy to change out once you got bored of one crazy pattern since you used removable wallpaper.

Wow!! One of the best furniture makeovers I’ve seen! It’s adorable and you would never think that was the same nightstand.
Omg I love this so much! I’ve been dreaming of something crafty to do with some Chasing Paper and this gave me so many good ideas! Thank you!
Amazing transformation! Makes me want to paint something.
After moving I’ve definitely ended up with some scratched and dinged furniture. I’ve been debating what to do with them. But your post has given me some great ideas!

How funky! Such a cute, simple way to add some personality to it
This looks remarkably like a project from Swoonworthy blog. I am surprised you have not referenced that.
Hey there!
I’ve never heard of Swoonworthy, but I just took a look and it’s really cute!
I was with Laura when she was concepting this makeover and I can tell you 100% she didn’t rip off another blogger. From time to time there are styles that get repeated (a LOT) and it’s definitely a big year for brass and palm print, but I think it’s really unfair to assume anything but the best on Laura’s creative process. She’s a great person and our whole team works very hard to always give credit when it is due.
Thanks! Elsie
this is amazing!!!!
Great idea. I love the look.
