today was just right. i took my boyfriend's advise and had a good dose of alone time to think and plan about our upcoming adventures. i filled up a few pages in my journal and then had a long conversation with him that cleared my brain. our plans have just changed SO many times over the past six months, but i think i am finally at peace and ready to move forward! i'll share more when the time is right. thanks for reading. Oh my gosh! Favorite movies? Farrrr too many to list from those decades! I really fell in love with Julie Christy in “Darling” for sure. It’s pretty, and it’s pretty sad, and pretty cool. I dunno, it’s not for everyone, though.

Taking a day to just clear your head and do nothing (technically) productive is always amazing. I would’ve loved to do that today, but it was extremely hot and the air smelled like smoke due to a nearby fire. Maybe some other day, but I’m glad you got your “me-day” in.

My go-to feel-good old movies are the original “Parent Trap” (the one with Haley Mills), and “Beach Blanket Bingo.” If you have never watched BBB, you will love it! It’s cute and the songs are so fun!

The 50’s and 60’s was such a great time for films, so it’s hard to choose favorites. French cinema was on fire, so I suggest Le Mepris, Breathless, and Une Femme est Une Femme. Also, you can never go wrong with The Graduate, Harold and Maude, The Seven Year Itch, or even the slapstick Beatles flick, Help!

“Walk Don’t Run (1966)” – One of my top ten favorite movies. It’s Cary Grant playing matchmaker at the British embassy in Tokyo during the ’64 Olympic Games, and it’s freaking hilarious.
One of my favorite all time movies ever–All About Eve (1950).
Elsie, you HAVE to see Auntie Mame w/Rosalind Russell! So silly, fun and the BEST wardrobe eva! Barefoot in the Park is also so incredible! Both are my faves of ALL time! Enjoy!

“Rear Window” with Grace Kelly is really good…and she is just so stylish, beautiful, and fun to watch. It is an Alfred Hitchcock thriller.

I’m sure already mentioned but The Graduate! When I was like 18..19…20 or around there, my mother strongly suggested this movie to me. I became obsessed with it. I would wear my hair like Elaine does in the movie and wear a lot of eye liner. I’ll always love that movie.

Anyway my film recommendations aren’t all from the 50s or 60s, the first 2 are from the 40s but they’re both brilliant!
Meet me in St Lois (1944) – think a couple of people have recommeded this one!
Under the Clock (1945) – another Judy Garland, a sweet story of a soldier on 2 day leave and who meets Alice (i think thats her name) and they fall in love!
All About Eve – someone else also recommeded this, such a fab film!

I have lots of favorites, but I would definitely say “Gidget” (the 1959 version with Sandra Dee), “12 Angry Men” (1957 version with Henry Fonda), “Rebel Without a Cause” (James Dean is truly amazing – he’s also amazing in “East of Eden”), and “A Streetcar Named Desire” (a young Marlon Brando is the greatest thing you will ever see – seriously).
Old movies were so much better in many ways than movies of today – they didn’t need special effects because the acting and story lines were so well done. Can’t wait to hear what you watch. 🙂
I would suggest “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” with Jane Russell and Marilyn Monroe. A Classic.
I’d recommend the movie “The Party” with Peter Sellers. A fun, late 60’s movie. Awesome clothes and set decor!
Not made in the 60s, but set in the 60s, is Shag. My girlfriends and I used to watch it all the time. It’s about four girls who go on a road trip to Myrtle Beach before heading their separate ways to college, marriage, etc. Love it.
one of my favorites is Jules et Jim with Jeanne Moreau. Gorgeous…Amelie’s narrative style was based on this movie.
Just watched “Roman Holiday” the other night with my girl. Love a good musical, too!

If you liked Roman Holiday, try “Three Coins in the Fountain”, also set in Rome. My absolute fave movie of all time is Katherine Hepburn’s Summertime, set in Venice. OMG, it is beautiful!
My favourite movie of all time just happens to be from that era, it’s called Gidget. It’s the cutest little surfing movie ever. I know for a fact it is available on iTunes!

when I was young there was a show called “The Early Show” that was on at 3:30 (after school), it showed old movies. I loved when they had “theme” weeks, and my favorites were the Elvis movies (so cheesy and fun), and the “surf” week, which was the Frankie and Annette movies, or the Gidget movies. And of course, I loved the “Tammy” week – my sister and I were named after the Tammy movie with Debbie Reynolds (I’m Tammy, she’s Debbie). I love the silly movies they made back then…

I’m sort of a big fan of the old “thrillers.” So I would suggest: The Birds, The Wolfman or The Hound of the Baskervilles!! For a non-thriller I always enjoy the Disney classic: watch Mary Poppins 😉

Its about a girl + her horse. Its a goodie for the whole family too!! The horse is a super actor!!
