This year, I decided to add some faux pumpkins to our porch (mixed with real ones) just because they will be reusable year after year. At this point in my life, it’s pretty safe to assume that I will always be a crazy Halloween lady.
I love the look of mixing in some subtle painted patterns, so I painted some of my reusable pumpkins with soft patterns.
I love the vibe, and most of all I like that they are mostly fall-ish (not SUPER Halloween), so I feel like I can still leave them on my porch until Thanksgiving—a whole extra month!
For the painted pumpkins, I took a few afternoons and a favorite podcast and painted soft repeating patterns. I did a lot of moons, a few spiders and some checkered pumpkins. Most of them took two to three coats of paint. Let it dry completely between each coat.
I chose paint that is indoor/outdoor craft paint. It doesn’t have to be this exact brand, but look for a craft paint that says it’s sturdy enough for outdoor use.
This project took me two afternoons, maybe 3-4 hours in total. It was just really spread out due to dry time. I’d LOVE to see your spin on this project. The best part is you can customize it to your style!
Happy Halloween! XX- Elsie

I’ve always loved the look of pastel-coloured painted pumpkins! I think it’s great you’re using fake ones too so you can reuse them! ❤️✨

I love these! I have trouble with real ones because the squirrels eat them! Do the critters destroy the fake ones? And do you do anything to protect the real ones? Thank you for the beautiful post!
Hi!
I did have that a few times! They definitely ignore the fake ones. :))
These are simply divine. I love them so much!
These look so pretty, and fun to make!

Do you have a favorite source for fake pumpkins that can be left outdoors? I’ve been on the hunt but haven’t been able to find any good options.
I get the carvable ones from the craft stores (they all carry them). A few of mine are also more decorative and probably shouldn’t be left outdoors long term- but it’s working for now 🙂
Do you do anything to hold the fake ones down and keep them from flying away? Or are they a bit heavy on their own?
What beautiful pumpkins! Some of my fondest fall memories are of carving and painting pumpkins with my family.
Pastel-coloured painted pumpkins look awesome! I like all the colors and design. Can I share this on my Pinterest?
