Kacey Musgraves’ Living Room Makeover

Kacey Musgraves Living Room TourHey, guys! I designed a living room for country singer and songwriter, Kacey Musgraves, and I am so excited to share the full tour with you today!

My first interaction with Kacey was so random but cool and worth sharing. It was a couple years ago before I moved to Nashville. I was already a fan of her music at the time. And one day I was scrolling back to my old (OLD) Instagram photos from, like, five years ago. I was looking at one photo, and I noticed some crazy comments that I had no memory of. Scrolling through them was pretty cringe worthy. It was basically just a bunch of people critiquing my appearance (always fun!), and then I saw a comment from Kacey, defending me! I think what it said was “little people belittle people”. This was years before I ever met her, but from that moment forward, I knew I wanted to be her friend because any woman who takes on another woman’s Internet trolls is an instant friend in my book!

Fast forward, this past summer I invited Kacey and her sister, Kelly, over to my house for craft day. And after hanging out for, like, five minutes, she invited me to help her decorate her new Nashville home. Now, I’ve never aspired to decorate other people’s homes (it’s scary!), but just this once I knew I had to take the leap because Kacey’s style is so inspiring. We have a lot of similar influences, but her style is much more western-inspired than mine—which I love so much! Long story short—I was shopping on eBay for brass horse shoes and cacti within hours. Haha!

Kacey Musgraves Living Room Tour We created a private pin board together and then sent back and forth inspiration, flea market finds and ideas for weeks and weeks. It was a dream project for me and a ton of fun. Especially when Kacey picked a pink sofa! Agh!

Kacey Musgraves Living Room Tour We created a sitting area around the fireplace and added built-in shelves on either side. I whipped up a super simple tapestry for above the fireplace (I’ll share more details on that in another post soon). We picked the biggest rug the room could fit to anchor the space, added a rustic coffee table and filled the space with plants.

Kacey Musgraves Living Room Tour The brass chandelier gives the room so much personality! You guys know I have a major soft spot for gold and brass, so I was really happy Kacey wanted to go in that direction.

Kacey Musgraves Living Room Tour Kacey Musgraves Living Room Tour Details! The shelves are filled with personal mementos with a theme of gold and pink. The horse clock was a flea market find that Kacey found in Texas. The crown is a vintage children’s costume piece I picked up in Missouri over Thanksgiving break.

Kacey Musgraves Living Room Tour Kacey Musgraves Living Room Tour Oh and, new rule! If you have a photo of Loretta Lynn kissing you on the cheek, it probably deserves to be framed in your living room. Right?

Kacey Musgraves Living Room Tour This hanging plant shelf is an ABM DIY, find it here. Isn’t that plant the cutest thing?

Kacey Musgraves Living Room Tour I felt really lucky when I found these white leather chairs with the perfect cowgirl details. Adorable.

Kacey Musgraves Living Room Tour Kacey Musgraves Living Room Tour Kacey Mugraves Living Room Tour It cannot be overstated how much I LOVE. THIS. SOFA

It’s a pink dream.

Kacey Musgraves Living Room Tour Here’s a zoomed out view of this cozy room.

Kacey Musgraves Living Room Tour Kacey Musgraves Living Room Tour The record station is my favorite part of the room. We custom made these cactus marquee lights and displayed them above the turntable. We painted the inside of the cabinet where the records are kept pink just to add a pop of color.

Kacey Musgraves Living Room Tour Kacey Musgraves Living Room Tour Kacey Musgraves Living Room Tour Kacey Musgraves Living Room Tour I customized a U-Turn Audio turntable with tiny gold cacti for a subtle, but fun, personalization.

Kacey Musgraves Living Room Tour Kacey Musgraves Living Room Tour The orange door was an afterthought if I’m being honest. We tried a couple other things that didn’t feel quite right. Pink would have been too much pink. So we finally decided orange to tie in with the rug, and I love the pop of color it adds!

Thank you so much for reading, you guys! I’m going to embed a couple of Kacey’s songs here in case some of you haven’t heard them yet. Even though, I know from Instagram that a LOT of you are already super fans!

  • Elsie, you’re such a pro at nailing a clean-but-still-totally-fun-and-colorful look with a tinge of maximalist! It looks amazing.

  • This room makeover is dreamy! I love that y’all’s styles compliment each other and this collaboration looks so fun!

How did you customize the turntable? Are the cacti stickers or stenciled/hand painted? I’m thinking of adding some pizazz to my own turntable and I’m wondering what might be more manageable.

  • Everything turned out beautifully! I love the built ins and how the whole space feels so custom and unique. I also love that everything is reasonably priced, which is sometimes hard to find in home makeovers (especially on large blogs where things are usually gifted).

    Well done 🙂

  • Oh what an amazing project this must’ve been! I love those cacti everywhere and the pink couch is indeed a DREAM! so cute!

    Liefs,
    Yara

  • I love this! I am a new follower and now check your blog religiously every day. I’ve never considered myself crafty, but I spent my entire week off completing the gold leaf cactus wall from a past post (and it didn’t end in a disaster!). Where do you find your cactuses? I live in Texas and have been going everywhere trying to find a similar one like the one in the pink planter. Also, where is the pink planter from? Thank you for helping me find my crafty side!

  • How do you go about customizing your uturn player? I love the cactus! Everything is so pretty!

  • I <3 Kacey and her songs 🙂
That beautiful record station is my dream come true! No big ugly black boxes anywhere! How did you do it? Did you somehow hide a receiver/preamp in the drawers of the cabinet?

  • Elsie this is beautiful! It’s so your style but looks like a “Kacey Musgraves” version. SO perfect for her.

  • Thank you for sharing this! The room looks like a dream come true, I’m digging all of the pops of color. Do you happen to know the name of the plant hanging near the front door? It’s the cutest little thing 🙂

    Eden

  • I adore the musgraves girls though I’ve only had the pleasure of being front row and then meeting Kacey I love Karen and Kelly just as much a family full of talent. Where is the horse shoe from?

  • This room is fabulous! I love all the little details you put in and how feminine it is! Such a fantastic job! You can decorate my living room any time!

  • Oh my gosh this room is beautiful. I love the light up cactus and the unique brass chandelier. Also that couch is to die for, the colour is so cute. I really aspire for my home to look as good as this one day.

  • First, how anyone could be ugly about you boggles me. You are a VERY talented, beautiful, and obviously smart young woman. I am a very smart old woman…. (l got some years on me girl, so I know! What you come up with consistently is bright, youthful, fun, AND economical. Therefore, remember these words. In 5 (five) very short years or less, there most likely will still be those that are “hatin’ on you”, but because you have MORE of your own profitable ventures with YOUR name in Marquee Lights….. and those poor souls are still sittin’ at their lonely computers…. hatin’ on you…. all decorating for the stars…….; )

  • I love how real and lived in this room feels. She is an amazing artist (I love her music!) and her living room looks like it could be, anyone I know. It just goes to show how real she is between her true lyrics and her beautiful down to earth style.

  • This is the best thing I’ve ever seen! I love every detail so much! Thank you for sharing it all! 🙂

  • What a gorgeous room! I love the white + natural plants look with pops of pink. Lovely and bright x

  • I’ve been reading a beautiful mess for years and Kacey is my favorite! this blog post is a dream come true! love love love this space

  • Love, Love, Love everything about this room. Where did the red planter on the fireplace come from?? Is it McCoy?? have tried google to find something similar, but no luck.

  • What a gorgeous room! You and Kacey did a great job. I LOVE that pink sofa. There are a lot of colors that could’ve worked but that pink is so wonderful, especially with the orange and white colors in the room. I never would’ve put those colors together but they work so nicely.

Also, the obligatory “I’m a huge Kacey Musgraves music fan.” I LOVE her music!

Great job ladies! The room looks gorgeous.

  • I love that sofa too! What’s your experience been with Article? I love their stuff but I’m hesitant about not being able to “test” drive the comfort of their pieces.

  • LOVE ABM (I have been reading since maybe 2010? You guys are the best) & Kacey (she is so darn talented and adorable). Match made in heaven.

I am totally lusting over that couch. I might need to buy the chair version just because.

Also, can we share what Kacey’s lipstick is? amazing!

  • Honestly, my experience has been amazing. I have the leather sofa and it’s super dog/kid/life friendly.

This pink sofa is definitely meant to someone like Kacey who doesn’t have pets of kids, because of the light color, but it’s super comfy and the scale was perfect for this smaller room.

    xx- Elsie

  • Awesome! I love Kacey even more knowing that she has such a sweet, cozy home and not a Nashville star mansion!

  • As if I wasn’t already a HUGE fan of ABM and Kacey’s… I just saw her in Fort Worth a couple weeks ago. Great writer, great singer, with lovely style. I am SO excited this post exists.

  • Great Job Elsie! Never would have thought the orange and pink combo would look like that, but it works with the rug. I love the cabinets and the rest of the pieces you chose. And of course you had to include a DIY somewhere!! Can’t wait for the tutorial…

  • The space is amazing-would expect nothing less!! However, am I the only person totally freaking over the pink cowboy boots?! I need them in my life, please share!!

  • OMG in love! im a huge fan of kacey and even dm with her! she is the sweetest most genuine person ever and you are so lucky to be friends with her! i am going to use this amazing room to inspire me for my room. i currently have a grey bed with pink linen bedding, and a blue and pink cactus pillow i made! any tips for wall art? i have huge walls that are currently so empty! i also have a matching light blue record player, with A Very Kacey Christmas playing nonstop 😉 i also have neutral white (but not bright white) walls, a white desk, and white marble dresser. but the dresser is tan wood on the bottom :(. any tips to tie this all together?

  • I’ve interviewed Kacey a few times for magazine features, and she’s always a dream to work with, so I was so stoked to see you guys doing this collab! I absolutely LOVE the color palette and every last personal detail you added to the room. I know you don’t need yet another job to add to your repertoire of hustles, but you are such an amazing interior designer that I always look forward to seeing your spaces, whether in your own house or someone else’s =)

  • Also, I meant to comment on this before but who on Earth could ever critique your appearance, Elsie? I originally found you and Emma almost a decade ago (or around the time you started) thanks to all the fun DIY projects, but stuck around (and became addicted to your IG, etc.) because you’re just so darn cute! Love your outfit posts, too, even though I’m not big into fashion =)

Love Kacey’s saying—that just sounds like something she’d say, too!

  • Uhh…can I just say that it makes me super happy that one of my favorite bloggers and one of my favorite singers are friends?? Nerdy, I know. Also, as another Texan, love the space! Perfect mix.

  • Yes! I love women who defend other women, too! (Side note: Do you follow @25park on Instagram? She is the queen of being a woman other women can count on; she rules. You would love her. Plus, she has some great style going on.)
I have loved Casey since I heard her song Follow Your Arrow. So amazing. I love how she had your back!
And I have some serious envy of that pretty star tiara/crown. So amazing! Also, loving the pictures of Casey in her pink dress and boots on her pink couch–rad. So happy you two could connect. Beautiful story! ⭐?

  • This looks amazing! Love the white fireplace and also the mix of a pink sofa with such a printed rug. Would have never put those two together myself, but it looks so good!
I want to redo my bathroom and I found a great online tool that let’s you estimate the cost of a renovation project and calculate the return on investment for free: https://app.mykukun.com/Home-Renovation-Costs It is a really helpful tool for anyone who is thinking about renovating!

  • Love love love this! Kasey is one of my all time favorites! I hope y’all continue to collaborate in the future!

The Loretta poster is amazing! Is that something Kasey already had or something y’all found?

    xoxo

  • Beautiful! What sized cow hide pillows did you use? Also, where did you get the horseshoe hook? Thanks!

  • What fun! I love it all. Where did you get that awesome gold horse? Did you spray paint it yourself? I have horses & would love to have something similar in our home. Thanks so much!

  • Hello! Can you tell me what is the name of the white paint that is used here? There are soooo many options out there for white paint!

  • What a nice makeover. You have decorated everything very nicely. I am just loving the way you have placed your sofa. And the rugs at the floor is giving an amazing feel to overall home decoration.

  • I LOVE this room so much. I just have a question that I’m dying to know. I have the same EXACT tiger painting in the same exact frame and everything. I always thought my grandmother painted it because the artists initials on the bottom are JH. Anyways, do you have any information about it? My grandmother (Jacqueline Hughes) and my mother have both passed so I don’t know where it’s from. Thank you so much for your time.

  • What a genius living room makeover! The designer decorated the living room so beautifully. I’m so happy to see how the designer gives details and give a perfect collaboration of designs.

  • Hello! What would you call her style? I’m looking for key words to look at ideas for my home. I am Texas and I love a country/ Mexican modern or retro theme. I just don’t know if I’m using the right words for further exploring.

    Thanks!
