I’m not totally sure what it is about pom-poms, but they just make me happy. I mean, if you imagine yourself rolling around in a swimming pool of pom-poms, what is the look on your face as you picture it? Really, REALLY happy, right?? Anyway, I’ve seen some cute pom earrings popping up lately, and I thought that a pom-pom bracelet might be just what I needed!
Supplies:
–mini pom-pom maker (or you can make your own with this method, but the pom maker is pretty awesome…)
-yarn in several colors
–eye pins (40mm long)
-jump rings and jewelry closures (an assorted box like this is great to have so you have different sizes on hand)
–gold link chain
-jewelry side cutters, needle nose pliers, and round nose pliers (you can buy them all together if you don’t have some)
-fabric scissors
First you’ll want to use your pom maker to make 5 mini poms in different colors (I made a few smaller and a few a bit bigger). Use fabric scissors to shape any longer ends of your pom so it’s a nice, even ball.
Stick an eye pin through your pom and use your round nose pliers to curve the straight end of the pin into a loop on that side as well. If your pins are too long for the pom, you can use your cutters to trim it down a bit before bending your loop. Repeat process with each of your poms.
Now you’ll want to cut small sections of chain to the same length to connect each of your pom sections together. You’ll actually end up making the bracelet a lot longer than you think because the fluffy poms sit up off your wrist. So just measuring your actual wrist and making the bracelet that long won’t work. I have an average wrist and my bracelet needed to be 9″ long to fit loosely around my wrist. So my chain segments were about 1/2″ long with the two end segments a little shorter (don’t forget your bracelet clasp ends are part of your measurement too). I would cut each segment a little longer than you think because you can always shorten the segment but have to cut a whole new piece to make it longer. Use your pliers to open the eye pin loops on each side of your pom, connect them together with your chain segments, and then close the loops again to secure. Add the clasp parts to the ends of your bracelet chains with a jump ring between them, and you’re finished!
I feel like it’s hard to be too serious when wearing a pom-pom bracelet—it’s so fun!! Since it only takes a little amount of yarn and small segments of chain, you could really make a lot of these for not much money at all. Use your favorite color yarn to make one that goes perfectly with your wardrobe or make a few for a friend to wear! xo. Laura

Super cute!! Definitely on my to make list. I get the pom pom thing… if I feel like a room in our house needs something I automatically think 1.chalkboard wall or 2.pom pom garland. I guess we all have certain little things that make us smile 🙂 and I would totally go swimming in a pool full of pom poms.
This is super cute and cheery, I love the pastel tones!

these are SO cute! I’ve seen some (kind of costly) ones on Etsy, but this doesn’t seem daunting to make at all!
That looks so cute! I love pom-poms as well! It’s gorgeous!
Love this! Would probably do a necklace… cannot stand bracelets.
This is so cute! I don’t think it would hold up that well though before the pom poms started to wear. http://www.likehanna.com

Sorry to derail, but would you mind posting the source of your sweater? Gray’s my favorite color and this texture looks so comfortable. 🙂
Cute project as always! Laura, just a quick question (totally unrelated- but I feel like you’ll have a great answer) did you change your self tanner once pregnant? If you don’t mind sharing, what are you using? You always look great.
Well, the good news is it’s easy to make more if you do wear them out!
Laura 🙂
It’s forever 21 but from last year…
Laura 🙂
Ha! I haven’t been using a self tanner so it’s either Rejuva bronzer on my face or some leftover sun from summertime!
