Click through for more!We love a good Halloween costume over here at A Beautiful Mess (check out some of our previous ideas from past years), and for those of you who lived your golden teen years through the late 90s and early 00s, this Halloween couple’s outfit idea needs no introduction!! It was in the middle of the glorious bubblegum pop heyday that Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake showed off their love for each other (and all things denim!) at the 2001 American Music Awards. In honor of the 15 year anniversary of “denimgate”, we thought this Halloween would be the perfect timing for a comeback of one of the most memorable couple’s outfits of all time. In other words, oops, we did it again!

If you’ve never seen this famous couple’s look before make sure to google it—you will not be disappointed.

Not a bad replication if you ask me! For Britney’s look, I got a denim corset (which was surprisingly easier to find than I assumed it would be!) and used a few yards of different hues of denim material to make the skirt for the bottom. I basically just wrapped the fabric around my waist, sewed four large pleats at the top, put some velcro on the seam at the back to close it and glued some patches of other colors to the front. Once I added a glittery necklace (try Claire’s or Charming Charlie’s), a denim handbag, and a waist chain, I was basically all set! And oh yeah, don’t forget the curled hair, false lashes, and an extra dose of bronzer for your cheeks! For Justin’s look, pair a jean cowboy hat with a jean blazer, grey t-shirt, and some jeans. Extra points if you can find a pair of faded aviator sunnies (found some at Target) and some sort of silver medallion for the bling factor.

Click through for more!I also loved seeing Katy Perry’s version of this look when she did it a few years back—it’s just too fun! Although the love between the Queen and King of millennial pop didn’t last, our love for this look continues more than a decade later! If you need a couple’s costume idea to bring sexy back to your Halloween night (and your guy is a good sport like Todd is!), this might be the look for you! xo. Laura
