After a five year hiatus, it happened βΒ I got a new tattoo. And I love it!!!!!!
Maybe some of you remember when I last wrote about my tattoos. I have two little hand-written “love” on each wrist and a big blue hand-mixer on my left forearm. And now I have a big pineapple-maybe-it’s-a-drink-too on my right forearm.
This tattoo was a gift for my 30th birthday from my brother. He also got a tattoo the same day as me, also a pineapple, although his is a bit different than mine. So, in a way, it’s kind of a sibling tattoo. But also he got it for me because I had been talking about getting some kind of pineapple tattoo after the bar opened for a while now. So if you’re one of those people who really wants to know what it means… well, I guess it means that I have an awesome brother and an awesome bar.
I’m not huge on tattoo meanings. I sort of like a mix between, yeah it means something sort of, and it’s just really pretty. π
I got my tattoo at Hearts of Fire (in Springfield, MO) from Ethen. He really made the idea even better by adding the flamingos and also suggesting the straw be blue (I had thought about yellow but SO glad he said to go blue). So if you live anywhere near me, I highly recommend him βΒ he’s also a really sweet guy.
It took about 2 hours to complete, and Doren (my bro) can tell you that I pretty much sat there quietly the whole time. Ha! I either didn’t remember how much my mixer hurt to get, or I’ve gotten way more, uh, aware of pain since then. I’m definitely not one of those people who really enjoys the process of getting the tattoo; I try not to look at the needle as much as possible.
I really hesitate to say this, but, I sort of think this might be my last tattoo. Of course now that I’ve said that, it probably won’t be.
Idk, after getting my mixer, I just sort of felt like I’d probably get another some day. But after getting the pineapple, I sort of feel like this might be it. But, who knows? Life is long, and I clearly don’t think there’s an age when you have to stop getting tattoos. So we’ll just see. But I am out of forearm space, so where am I even going to put it?! π
Anyway, kind of a random post I guess. But just wanted to share my new tattoo with you all. And if you totally hate tattoos, I hope you skipped this one. π xo. Emma

I love it!
I love it! It’s beautiful. I, too, am not keen on tattoo meanings.
Slightly off subject, where’d you get your shirt? It’s my favorite color. π
it looks awesome!
There is always space if you really want another one. I have one on my back, the next one will be near my wrist, but I really want a bigger one on my thigh, I’m saving that space for something with color π
That is one brave and original design!
Love it!
Ok, so before you said that you have “love” written on your wrists, I could have sworn it read “Trey” from our POV. π
I thought so too!
sooo pretty! speaking of pineapple drinks — any chance you could share a Rum Club recipe with us? pretty please?
Thrift store but it was originally Old Navy.

That’s what his sister and my mother have pointed out to me. Upside down it does kind of look like “Trey” but they actually each say “Love”
My dog’s name is Love Love, so really it’s his name. But I sort of like that I got my dog’s name tattooed on my wrists and years later it ended up looking like my husbands name. Ha!

Me too. So thanks!

Love that! It came out awesome. The flamingos are a great touch!
love the tattoo! and i love these kind of random posts!
thanks for sharing!
I loved! The flamingos really gave it a special touch and the pineapple is so cute! Loved the little details.
I got my first tattoo less than a week ago. I actually got 3 tattoos at the same time, in my first time.
They are pretty much smaller than the pineapple and the mixer, but I’m still in love with them.
And two of them are siblings tattoos too. With my lil sis.
Anyway, good luck with the peeling and itching phase. π

I love a good forearm tatt, but this one takes the (pineapple upside-down) cake. Sooooo cute and colorful! Congrats on your new work of art!
Adorable and personal. Exactly what we would expect from you! I love hearing the stories behind your tattoos, which is something we don’t get to learn about other people that often. While their not for everyone, I appreciate them as well and have quite a collection going myself. Hoping to get a vintage/antique/mother themed soon to commemorate the antique store I run online with my mom. Happy Inking! π

Perfect!!! I need to do a post on my tattoos! If you watch Ink Masters – the winner from last (?) season – Dave Kruseman – did my last one, back before he was famous (like a year ago hahahaha).
Tattoos totally aren’t my thing, but that is one cute pineapple

they have them on sale right now…they’re the cotton-linen been boyfriend t-shirts…
SO cool! Such an awesome design, spot and size. Wanna bet you’ll go for another one in a few more years time anyway? ;p I’ve got a few, of which the biggest is on my back. All black so far but would love to get my first coloured tattoo as well. For some reason I find that a much bigger step than the black ones! A bit more funky maybe too, similar to this pineapple. Love both of your tatts!

LOVE it!! I have ten tattoos and really only plan on getting a couple more. Yours are beautiful!
I love it! It’s awesome!!!
Cute! I don’t have any tattoos b/c I change my mind too much I would never be able to make a decision! I would be happy every day looking at that haha
Terrific tattoo! It looks so pretty and fun…makes me want to get a tattoo of a flamingo sipping a pineapple drink. π
The pink and blue tie it to your hand mixer tattoo so they look more cohesive together. Smart tattoo artist!
Maybe it’s because I’m obsessed with tropical drinks, but I love your tattoo! Very cool.

It’s so cool! Looks awesome! I’ve been toying with the idea to get a tattoo for so long! I’ll probably cave and get it this year, but I’m terrified of needles haha so that’s an obstacle I will have to face :p

I think it’s lovely and a perfect compliment to your other tattoos. Xox missy
OBSESSED!! I’m in love with that tattoo! I officially want to be at the beach now
OMG! How adorable are you! So fun, and cheerful! Can’t wait for the next one! hehe! http://www.heartofchic.com
I thought your two “love” tats said “Trey”!! Upside down, they do, which is super cool!
In a way both tattoos have a meaning. Both of them indicate two big milestones in your life. Red velvet is the beginning of working with your sister and a beautiful mess whereas the pineapple cocktail is about your dream of opening your own bar! π
love them!
I LOVE it! Who says that a tattoo has to have a cool meaning, isn’t it enough that it looks great?!
This is sooooo beautiful!!!
That’s super cool! Love it! I also really love the handbeater one too. I have a few tattoos and now you’ve inspired my inner tattoo-loving self to get another one.
Looks awesome π such a great design. Congrats on the bar
I love how the blue straw brings in the blue from the hand mixer and both tattoos compliment each other plus the flamingo straws are amazing. What is your brother going to get you next year to top this awesome gift???
I love it!! The colors are AMAZING!!
Hi Emma!
Awesome Tat! (and Doren’s is nice too!)
We went to the Golden Girl Rum Club and LOVED it! We had fun drinks and yummy sandwiches! (Then we went to see the Mixtapes in Joblin…awesome weekend!)
Anyway, I read in your post that the Pineapple pins were available at the bar and I did not realize this. Can we get one mailed????
I am happy to pay postage. We do not live in Springfield and I am not sure when we will get to return (I hope sooner than later…).
Thanks and congrats on new tattoo!
Tattoos are not my thing but I can appreciate ones that are pretty and colorful, like yours. It really is cool. My son (I’m old enough to be your mom!) has one on back of his calf that is a 50’s style pinup girl sitting on a bomb! I don’t hate it haha!! I’m not a fan of the ‘sleeve’ look or all-over tattoos but I guess to each her own. I LOVE your blog and wish you all the best with the new bar.
Looks great on you!

It seriously looks sooooo good! I love the colors π

I also have a pineapple tattoo, and my next one will have flamingos! I don’t enjoy the feeling of getting a tattoo either, so they’re really spaced out.
I think this is beautiful. I am thinking of getting my first one soon and the colors of your pineapple tattoo are great inspiration.
Happy Wednesday

Looks awesome! I love how the colours in each of the tattoos are in the same palette. Blue straw was a nice touch π
It’s so well done – I love how playful it is! I have several tattoos and sort of hate it when people ask the meaning… I feel like my answer is never going to sound profound enough! I think I’m done with tattoos myself… I love what I have, but honestly, there is always something I’d rather spend the money on now!
I’ve been wanting to get a tattoo, so I love seeing what other people get! But I don’t want to get a tattoo for the sake of getting a tattoo. For me, meaning is a big thing, but I know that it isn’t for everyone! -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey’s
That just cute… I love the flamingo accent on it, adding a more chic accent NaΓ―ve Live

I love how your two tattoos complement each other in style/location/color scheme, and both represent passion projects in your life. They are not matchy-matchy but just balance each other so perfectly! Did Ethen do the first one too? If not, he did a great job tying them together in style/color, super smart.
That looks amazing! I like how the colors and the art really speak of you, your personality and this blog!

Aw this is so nice! Love the design, it goes perfectly with your electric mixer! You’re making me want to get another one… π
I totally love it! I’m a huge fan of pineapples as well, and this one looks just perfect, and the placement is good as well. Maybe I should get a pineapple as well…I’m a bit jealous!

That really is one cool tattoo, so so pretty! x

So the mixer is five years old now? I’d love to get watercolor tattoo on my wrist too, but I’m a little afraid how’s going to look after few years… And it’s hard to find some “old” color tattoos to see how they change! The pineapple looks great!
I absolutely adore this tattoo! What a great gift from your brother with a little meaning behind it with your new business π I’ve always admired your tattoo style Emma and this one is just gorgeous, love the edgy style of the pineapple and then the softness of the straw and flamingo. Thanks for sharing!
Love! I have a pineapple tattoo in the exact same spot. ?
Love it!!
This is so adorable!
Oops! My email is DANKEL2@charter.net if you could reply about the Golden Girl Rum Club pin.
Thanks!
Super cute. Tattoos can be meaningful, but the more important thing is that they be something you want to look at over and over again. I’d definitely enjoy one like this!!! As for more tattoos – get one down the road if you want to, but you don’t have to decide today. There are ankles, calves, feet, shoulders… all kinds of places to act as a canvas!
I am envious – looks great. I got my tattoo on my 40th birthday with my two cousins who also got their so like you that was part of the memory! Enjoy.
Love it Emma! It goes great with your mixer tattoo. It’s just lovely!!!
I could have sworn that your wrist said Trey, from the perspective of the photo. Pretty cool that they are love from your perspective and Trey from everyone else’s.
It’s so fabulous!
First, the tattoo is stunningly pretty! Before I read your text and just looked at the pictures I thought, those flamingos rock!! Then you explained Ethen’s ideas on them and the blue straw, and I looked again and thought wow!
This tattoo artist is perceptive/tuned to his artistry – yes, the blue straw… it adds great color and connects to your blue mixer! Subtle but pop! Beautiful – oh gosh, it must make you happy. π
Emma,
You’ve probably already explained this in a previous post, but I just didn’t see it. I saw your “love” tattoos and wondered if they were supposed to look like “Trey” when you look at them upside down…? Your latest tattoo is awesome though! Love that you put your passions on your arms for everyone to see!
Love it!!
Am I imagining things or do your love tattoos spell ‘Trey’ upside down?
I was going to say this too!
I’m so loving this! I have Carmen Miranda with a fruit turban on my shoulder, that then spills over onto my collection of tropical fruit. I pretty much squealed when I saw yours on Instagram!
Emma, I love it! It’s such a good style and so much fun. Makes me want summore!
Ahh! It looks SO amazing! I’ve been wanting a tattoo for years (like basically since I was a kid), but I never know what to get! I recently decided to get one of my cat (yup, crazy cat lady over here hah), but I’m so scared about the pain as I really don’t do well with pain! Hopefully some day, I’ll get one!

omg! these have to be my fav tattoo out of all that I’ve ever seen.
I wany tropical tattoos but havent seen one I really like.
I also thought about have a tiny pineapple on me but yours is so freaking perfect!
I think both are awesome – especially since they have personal meaning to you. The blue straw looks good next to the blue mixer, sort of ties the two together.
OMG! I absolutely love this tattoo!! I love pineapples and have always thought about getting one tattooed. What a great design! So fun!
I like it, goof choice of colors, the blue pops up the yellow
xo
Love the shade of blue you used in both the mixer tattoo and the pineapple one.
It’s so cute, but MAN that must have hurt! I have a couple of tiny tatts and the shading was the killer part for me. I admire your bravery sitting through all that shading.
I’m with you on tattoos not having to ‘mean’ something, too. I have a little vintage plane and a pen nib…and I could try to make them sound deep, but actually I just like them π
