Sew with Us E-Course is Here!

Sew with us e-course

Update: This course has been retired, but you can view our sewing archives here.

Today we are SO excited to share our latest e-course with youβ€”Sew with Us!

Rachel Denbow and Katie Shelton have been developing this course for nearly a year now. Our goal has been to create an easy-to-understand practical guide to sewing beautiful home decor and pretty fashion projects for yourself. The course is taught through text, step-by-step photos, and four videos that teach different skills throughout the course.

Sew a dressYou can read the full details about the course here, including a description of all 25 original lessons (and a bonus!), but here are a few highlights. If you feel you need to start from the beginning, you’ll find lessons on getting familiar with your machine (including a video tutorial for threading shown on two different types of home sewing machines), sewing feet, basic stitches, and a quick guide to fabrics. If you feel you’re ready to move past the basics and get into the projects, you can dive right in and learn to make your own clothing (with patterns or from making your own pattern!), throw pillows, curtains, pillow cases, sleeping bags, how to add different kinds of zippers and much more! By the time you’ve made it through all the lessons, you’ll be feeling like a pro.

RugYou’ll also learn practical and useful skills like how to make your own bias tape and how to alter clothing to fit YOU. The course also encourages you to get creative with your fabric choices, and we have an entire lesson dedicated to showing you how to hand-stamp textiles so you can personalize any project.

How to thread a sewing machineWe recommend you have access to a working home sewing machine (any brand) before beginning this course. But, if you don’t know how to use it yet, that’s OKβ€”we’ll show you. πŸ™‚

Sew a cute skirtSew with Us is offered at $45 USD. But, we wanted to find a way to reward our loyal e-course readers. Don’t miss out on this discount if you’re interested in taking your skills to the next level.

  • Will this be a one time class? I’m in moving limbo and not sure when I’ll be able to get into my new home. And I really really really want to learn how to sew and I’d LOVE to do it with you guys!!

  • Hi ABM,

Just signed up for the course! Excited to get sewing, but when exactly do we start? =)

    Sincerely,

  • I’m so excited, and I just can’t hide! I’m about to lose control, and I think I like it!

    Thank you for offering this.

  • Hi! I would love to take advantage of this $30 offer. I have a sewing machine that I a sewing machine that I’ve been meaning to learn how to use it, but never find the time to. I think this course will be very helpful. If I purchase this course before April 8th, can I take it a later time. Let’s say 2 months from now? Is there an expiration date? I want to take another one of your courses and I would like to finish that one first before I take this one. Let me know when you get a chance. Thanks! πŸ™‚

    P.S. I heart ABM πŸ™‚

  • This sounds awesome! Is there anyway to see a picture of all the projects before purchasing? Thanks.

  • omg so excited!! and the price is so reasonable. Thank you for the discount, you have no idea how much its appreciated. I can’t wait to learn from the best πŸ™‚

  • Hi guys,

Just purchased the course! But I can’t get into it πŸ™ Can you help?

    Cheers,
    Sarah

  • I can’t wait to buy this! But one question, where did the 52 weeks of art journaling go? I was going to get that one too and now I can’t find it. Thanks!

  • This is awesome! Does it include any patterns? Would love to make that bottom skirt Katie is wearing!

  • I just bought the course! This is perfect, I just bought my sewing machines a month ago. Excited to learn more about sewing!!

  • Thanks for getting back to me! It looks like you can see a list of the projects but no pictures. Is there any way to see pics?

  • I used to know the basics about working a sewing machine, but it’s been far to many years for me to remember any of it. I’ve recently got this new desire to give it a try again…small problem, I don’t have a sewing machine….yet. I can’t wait to give it a try again once I get my hands on one!

  • This sounds like something I need to do…what fun and what a comprehensive course you’ve designed. I can sew but I am mostly self-taught so I know there are gaps in my skills. I hope there are more courses in the works.

  • Can’t wait to sign up! Looks like a great course and your cheerful styling will be sure to make it extra fun. Been a longtime admirer of your blog, keep on being fab ladies! xx

  • Friggin’ awesome πŸ™‚ I think I just may be signing up for my very first ecourse!

  • I so wish this had existed when I first started sewing, it would have been such a wonderful resource! I’m so glad you’re putting it out there for people! πŸ™‚

  • Hi, ABM πŸ™‚
I’m thinking about getting a sewing machine before starting the course, as you recommended.

If I intend to make my own clothes like skirts and dresses, what kind of machine do you recommend?

    Love,
    Julie

  • Hi Julie! that’s exciting! Any basic sewing machine will do. Katie and Rachel uses a Janome brand machine and Katie uses a Brother machine. πŸ™‚ -Jacki

  • What is considered an appropriate question for the Q&A board? Is it technical questions, pattern questions, etc? I asked a question yesterday, about modifying the maxi skirt (something I would ask my teacher if I were taking a class in person, not virtually), and it’s “being reviewed”. Is that a long process, reviewing, or was my question inappropriate and I should just find the answer on the internet?

  • Hi Sharla! Any questions are acceptable. You should hear back from them today (teachers usually check the board a few times a week). πŸ™‚ -Jacki

  • I have been saying that I want to learn how to sew for a REALLY long time – this class is just the push that I needed, The one issue is that I don’t have a sewing machine yet – can you help suggest a good machine for a beginner? I’m hoping not to spend too much if possible. Thank you SO much – I can’t wait πŸ™‚

  • Hi Lauren,
I am not sure which machines they use, but Katie and Rachel both have inexpensive home machines that they recommend in the class. My home machine is a Janome and I love it. Excited for you!
    xx- Elsie

  • Oh I really want to do this, but I don’t have a sewing machin. I’m thinking about purchasing one. Do you have any tips about good sewing machines? I saw a second hand one for sale that’s really old (from the 70s) for only 20 euros. Do you think an old sewing machine would do the trick?

  • I’m really tempted to start sewing but I have tonnes on my plate at the moment… Does the course expire at all?

  • once you purchase the class, how long is it available for? like – how long will i have access to it?

  • I’ve just purchased the class and I’m super excited to start! But I can’t figure out how to access the video lessons? I’ve downloaded the PDF and checked the class page, but can’t seem to find them anywhere D: xx

  • Hi Michelle! The videos are within these lessons:

    How to Thread Your Machine
Learn to Sew on a Curve and Add Piping
How to Tailor Clothes to Fit You
Sew a Blouse with an Exposed Zipper

    Hope that helps! -Jacki

  • Hi Team,

Two years on from seeing this course advertised and now is the time to start…and I can’t seem to find this course anywhere – is it still available? Thanks πŸ™‚

    • Hi Laura,

We have actually retired this course, sorry love! But we’ll be sharing lots of sewing based tutorials on the blog in the future for sure.

  • Any chance of this class coming back? I am finally in a situation where I can start collecting the materials, and I’m super keen!
