Since it’s been a few months since I’ve written a beauty post, I have tried a bunch of new products that I’m excited to share with you! First up, a few things I have added to my daytime routine.
French Girl Rose Lip Polish – I use this no more than once per week and I love it. I love the scent of (natural) rose—it’s SO nice. During the winter, my skin is a little more dry, and especially around my lips, so this helps a lot.
First Aid Beauty Vital Greens Face Mist – For our trip to China, I splurged on a bunch of fancy skincare in travel sizes. I thought it would be a good chance to try a bunch of new things and also have some self-care in my days. Out of everything I tried, this was honestly the only thing that I love so much I will re-buy it. I love face mists and I do think there is value in collecting a variety. I use them after every time I cleanse my face, after a workout (with just a splash of water and then towel dry and then a mist), and I even keep one at my desk to use throughout the day.
Juice Beauty Green Apple Peel – This is, by far, the most powerful mask I have ever tried that does not burn my skin. It makes my face so flush (like pretty red!) and my skin feels amazing afterward. I rotate between this and one of my more gentle masks, but I love this one and will for sure keep it in rotation.
Captain Blankenship Golden Waves – I got this for Christmas and have been loving it! It does leave a very subtle shimmer in my hair and I love spraying it in Nova’s hair too (they make a silver one as well). I also love the scent, so if you’re in the market for a sea salt spray I recommend this one to try! Just make sure to shake it really well before each use.
Kani Beauty Moon Milk – This glittery body oil doubles as a moisturizer and perfume. It smells incredible! The glitter is subtle and in all the times I’ve used it, I’ve never felt self-conscious at all (it’s not obnoxious looking, I promise!). It’s really tough to find any kind of perfume that smells amazing, but doesn’t have artificial fragrance (the only other one I have ever found is LeahLani). So anytime I find any product that has a great natural fragrance, I get SO excited.
First Aid Kit Facial Radiance Pads – I got worried I was exfoliating too much, or too harshly and stopped exfoliating at all for a bit. But I realized I did need some, so I looked for a super gentle solution and I found these pads. I will definitely be keeping them in my rotation because they are gentle, yet effective and I trust the ingredients.
These are a few things I have added to my night routine.
Herbivore Pink Cloud – This is THE most perfect lotion. It’s definitely a keeper for me as a facial moisturizer. I use a lot of oils on my face, but sometimes it feels good to switch it up. I highly recommend this product. It smells so good and is super light!
LeahLani Bless Balm – I have mentioned this before, but I added it here because it’s a good counterpart to the Pink Cloud. I would use Bless Balm for any kind of chapped or super dry skin, it’s much more heavy duty if you need a deep moisturizer and right before bed is the perfect time for it! If you get really dry areas on your face, use it there and I even use it on my elbows, which get dry.
100% Pure Vitamin C Serum – I don’t use a serum every night, but I like to use one after a mask to kind of “seal the deal,” if you know what I mean. I have tried a lot of serums in my five years since turning 30 (haha) and this is definitely one of my favorites. It has vitamin C, which helps to brighten your skin.
True Botanicals Pure Radiance Oil – This is a new brand to me and I’ve recently tried a bunch of their products (love their shampoo and conditioner too), but this oil is probably my favorite. This is what I typically use every night and I add a drop or two of our Manuka Oil or Frankincense.
Oui Fresh Manuka Essential Oil – My number one favorite skincare oil. I love the scent of it and it has antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial benefits, which are great for your face. It’s not the cheapest oil, but I pretty much only use it for adding a drop to my face oil at night or for skincare DIYs (like a roller blend or a face spray), so it lasts a very long time.
If you have any questions about these products, I’d be happy to answer them! I LOVE learning more about non-toxic skincare. I’ll be doing a post similar to this with some new cosmetics I’ve been loving soon. xx! Elsie

Amazing recommendations as I’ve been looking into more natural products lately, thank you! ❤️ I also love how minimalist most of the packaging is 🙂

Is the Bless Balm the same one that was in last month’s OuiFresh Box?
It is! 🙂
Yes. Same thing!
Are these products cruelty free as well? I’ve been trying to incorporate more non toxic and natural products into my life, but I think it’s important to consider how they’re made and tested too! Thanks for this list!
That’s a great question about being cruelty free, Victoria! I second that question about how they’re made and tested.
Yes, they are.
Have you tried Drunk Elephant? I swear by their skincare because they’re one of the few skincare brands to exclude fragrance and any irritants.

No, I haven’t tried it. Which products do you love?
xx
I love Herbivore’s products. The Blue Tansy face mask works wonders!
I noticed you stay away from larger retail brands, like lush and body shop etc. any particular reason why or do you just like giving the smaller shops your business?
Lush and The Body Shop are conventional products, NOT natural and not brands I recommend or places I shop.
I go by the ingredients, not the marketing. There are (sadly) a ton of brands who market themselves as “better” that just aren’t.
Here’s a list of brands I buy from Target that aren’t as boutique. http://abeautifulmess.com/2017/10/how-to-shop-cleaner-at-target.html
Hope that helps!
Any recommendations for eye cream? Also being in my mid-30’s, I should probably be using an anti-aging cream or serum or something! But I don’t even know where to begin.
BTW, I am loving the Bless Beauty Balm. Its in my nighttime routine for sure.
I LOVE the 100% pure Coffee Bean eye cream! it’s incredible!!!! (Bless Balm is great for an eye treatment too)
Vitamin C serum was just what I needed!

Just wanted to let you know that I love these natural beauty and skincare posts. Every time I run out of a less natural product I’ve been using, I come back to your blog to get recommendations
That’s amazing and that’s the best & smartest way to do it!! xx
LOVING all of the skin care recommendations! Inspired to take the first step and not be intimidated 🙂

Thanks for sharing.Your article is awesome! How long does it take to complete this article? I have read through other blogs, but they are cumbersome and confusing.
Thanks for sharing some of your favs, Elsie!!! The Bless Balm in the beauty box last month is my new favorite moisturizer…literally the best I’ve used!
Ooh, I’m intrigued by the golden waves spray! That might be fun to use in the summer on my blonde hair!

hi elsie! would love to see future posts about any non-toxic hair color options! it would be great to find a non-toxic way to dye my hair!
I haven’t looked into this yet (pretty scared!!! I know conventional hair dye is aweful for you) but I still get my hair dyed.
xx
I second this request! I have been using Lush’s henna hair dye but I would love more options. I really don’t like the idea of putting chemicals on my hair for the rest of my life, but I’m not ready to go grey either.
I need to add some of these to my life!

Hello! I so appreciate these posts and suggestions! I have ZERO idea where to start with this sort of thing — is there a list on what you generally do with your skincare on a daily basis? I realize that you switch up the products that you use, but if you’ve covered this somewhere, I would love to be pointed in the right direction. Thank you in advance!
Here’s my skincare list- http://abeautifulmess.com/2017/08/elsies-favorite-skincare-products.html

Thank you very much!!
Love your post! Juice Beauty’s patented Green Apple Peel is one of my favorite products (we now have over 150 products!!) and I can’t live without the powerful exfoliation. xo Karen Behnke Founder, Juice Beauty
Hi Elsie!
I love, love, love these posts (and the beauty box) and am so proud to be sourcing my beauty products from conscious suppliers. My skin looks better than it ever has!
Do you have any recommendations for a good body moisturizer ? I have so many great products for my face, but haven’t found any to replace things like my post-shower/shave leg lotion.
THANKS!
I love, love, love Mad Hippie’s vitamin c serum. I layer it under my Acure marula oil and moisturizer.
I’m in the middle of switching over to non-toxic beauty products. I’m having a really hard time finding a hair conditioner though. I have curly hair and the ones I have tried so far make my hair impossible to comb. Do you have any suggestions?
Hi Elsie! I’m really loving these posts. I’m trying to switch over to a cleaner skincare and makeup routine as well. One thing I’m still having trouble with is a mineral based sunscreen spray (like a setting spray) that I can use to re-apply my sunscreen on my face during the day. I want one that I can just spray on without having to rub in because of my makeup. I’m having the hardest time finding a mineral based one (as opposed to oxy/avobenzone). Any recommendations?
Hi Caroline! This is Elsie’s favorite natural suncare brand- https://www.sephora.com/coola-suncare 🙂
Love it wow! thanks!
