A few years ago, my grandma started giving Emma and I her clothes. These weren't just any clothes… these were her favorite things from when she was our age. Incredible vinatage pieces. One of my most prized pieces is a 1960s swimsuit that she splurged on during her honeymoon. For each piece of clothing we take home there is a sweet story of when she bought it and all the places she wore it. I love this…
Since then, each time I get a new dress that I love, I imagine my granddaughters battleing it out for these pieces when I'm old. It's a fun thought and so when I find amazing dresses, coats and shoes I keep them forever…. you know, just in case!

Loooove how all the accessories (and shoes) are color coordinated!
Such a sweet story π I always wished my grandma + mom saved their clothes, dolls, etc. for me! I have a heart clock necklace from my great grandmother that I cherish + my grandmother has given me some awesome jewelry too. For my wedding I used some of my grandmother’s enamel flower brooches that I always had my eye on π
Wow, so special! I would love to see some of your grandma’s pieces! Very cool π

just a precious thought! love the dress!
this is a wonderful story and perfect for wanting to hold on to pieces to pass down.
Even if it is something too big or too small I like to frame things to keep the memory
I have dresses that are too small for me hanging from oversized frames, it makes great artwork and keeps a memory. π

such a sweet story! π
I have a similar “thing”. I keep a lot of clothes that remind me of times in my live. And I have so many toys tucked away from when I was a little kid that I want my kids or grandkids to have when I’m old.
I am so fond of memory pieces. I Love every piece that is handed down to me and It makes my heart burst just to think of the day when I can give it all to my children and grandchildren……
and by the way..I think this is the most adorable dress I have seen you in. I Love everything about it and you look georgeous in it π

Loving the red hair Elsie!
My cousins and I battled it out for my Grandmothers clothes and jewelry after she passed, she had an amazing collection! But the most special things I have of hers are items she gifted to me over the years with little notes on their history — it’s so special. π
Gorgeous dress and such a sweet tradition to start! Love the red hair!
Kinda makes me wish I were your granddaughter— is that weird? xo, B
Elise,
I do this too! I have my favorite pairs of flares from junior high that I want to give my kids when they are in Junior high.
I also imagine the women that wore my vintage items in my shop that’s why sometimes I make up little stories about the person. on my Item descriptions. like with this one.

It’s a strikingly gorgeous dress. It’s so simple and classic but you can just see how well made it is. I wish I had more vintage pieces from my family. It’s really lovely.

your hair looks amazing – it makes me want to get my hair dyed the same colour π
I am no longer throwing away my best pieces when I “grow out of them”!
What a lovely story! My mum did the same for me and my daughters. My mother is a really small size, so we could only use them early in our teens. Now most of the dresses are stored for the next granddaughter or great-grand-daugter og hers…but we have some hanging on the wall just to look at!
I really like your writings…
Bea
L.O.V.E that dress!

That’s so sweet! It’s fun to be making those new stories. And I love your red hair!
I am coveting that dress. And where, oh where did you get those lovely tights?
What a sweet idea! In my family we pass along jewelry. My engagement ring is my Mother’s and my wedding ring (which I won’t get to wear until 2013) was my Grandmother’s. I can’t wait to pass these along to my children.
Kindness is the best accessory,
Rebecca
Wow…fab dress!!!
My oldest is already laying claim to the Pucci collection!

Super cute Dress! I have a leather belt from my grandpa that I love because it has a story of his life attached to it! I so greatly enjoy pieces that have stories to them! Thanks for sharing!
You are very lucky to have those amazing memories and cherished pieces of clothing passed down to you. Thank you for sharing your story with us!
That dress is just perfect!
I feel the same way about my clothes, except for the opposite reason! I always wished my mom or grandmother had kept some of their clothes to pass on to me… unfortunately I’m the first pack rat of the family! but I find it so hard to get rid of pretty things, especially since someday they’ll be fabulous vintage finds. π
Ooooh!!! <3 What a sweet, cute story and I can only imagine the many memories you will share with your granddaughters!!!

Omg I’m in love with your dress & the white bow is the perfect touch!
Unfortunately I don’t have any of my grandmother’s clothes, except for her gold costume jewelry & the blanket she used to sleep in after she passed away.

Gorgeous! LOVE that dress (and your hair!). The belt is adorable too!
Such a sweet sentiment about your grandmother’s clothes. Also, your red hair looks gorgeous! It totally suits you!
Love the dress. I do have some grandma things. It’s heart-warming to think about your grandchildren wearing your clothes when they’re all grown up. A good reason to keep clothes forever.
That dress is beautiful. I am so jealous right now!
OH what a sweet tradition. What a sweet grandma!
I think about this all the time, too. When my mom was younger she was about my size but she got rid of most of her clothes due to storage issues. She wore amazing clothes so I was always a little sad and I always try to save my favorite pieces for one day when I have children/grandchildren.
I adore the red red hair! This is such a cute dress… I love that you’re planning to pass on stories to your children.
pretty.
pretty.
the cut.
the style.
the color.
everything about that dress is just perfect.
This dress is too cute! Love your shoes but I do not know whether I could keep balance π
Just plainly fabulous – dress, hair, and the story!
In love with your hair color! What a sweet dress as well.
That black and white capelet is delicious! Love that you shortened it.
That is awesome!!! I bet you Grandmother has such hidden treasures =) have fun!!
I love this! I often wish my grandmother would have kept her clothes from back in the day. Same for my mom. She only kept some shoes and purses from when she was young, but somehow they got lost. Might have to start a thorough search next time I visit my parents π
Fall Inspiration: “Out & About”
This is a lovely post. I have a similar thing with my grandmother – she passes down so many clothes to me that I am pretty much a mini her now! It’s so lovely isn’t it? I love the stories that come with the clothes – and I always feel kind of proud to be giving them an extra life. x
I really like the grey dress! You can totally change it up to by putting different/belts/bows over the current one. And I am really liking the red hair color π
