I found this cute little mid-century planter at a flea market last week. After seeing this pin I knew just what I needed to fill it with, a colorful arrangement of cacti and succulents! It was so much fun to pick out a variety. I'm kinda obsessed with adding green to our home right now. It completely brings the place to life! Thanks for letting me share my tiny, but very happy, project! Sometimes it's the little things that get me most excited. xo. Elsie

this is, without a doubt, one of my favorite things you’ve posted. i saw your pin and started researching how to make cacti grew. guess you just purchased them. so awesome.

Well…you did it again! You blew my mind with another awesome project! I never thought of decorating with cacti and succulents, but the colors you used here are just beautiful. My sister is coming into town this weekend, and I think this is the perfect little project for us. Thank you again for the great inspiration:)

I was in cvs yesterday. They had tons of little succulent plants. I was going to buy one when I noticed some of the flowers had actually been fixed to the plants with a hot glue gun. I wonder if anyone has seen this elsewhere? And do the mistreated plants die like carnival goldfish?
This is so lovely Elsie! Everything about it is so perfectly vintage/modern and the colors are very bright and fun. And I actually think I could handle a little garden like this. It is hard to kill succulents, right? 😉
I have been meaning to get to the green house and pick up some little baby succulents! Now I think I will have to go later today!
Thanks Elsie:)

flowers always make me happy! Every spring, the kids and I plant flowers in the garden out back and in pots on the front porch. They instantly make me smile. 🙂
love your arrangement!
that is so perfect!
I love this! I’ve been really into cacti lately and this is a great way to do it! Going to keep this in mind for future decorating plans.

So cute! Any tips on keeping succulents alive?? ha. I’ve got two and I’ve tried everything and they are still dying.
Thanks!
Wow, what a great arrangement! I’m in love with succulent flowers. There is a ginormous 10 ft Cactus about to bloom in front of the Santa Barbara Mission, and I need to check it everyday until it pops!
Very cool idea! I’ve never tried something like that before, but now you’ve got me thinking about it!
I would call this a ‘little joy’. Those things or moments in life that just make you happy for some reason and you just have to stop and enjoy it for minute. Life is just too hard not to pause and soak up the ‘little joys’!
Blessings!

this is absolutely adorable!
you ladies amaze me, so crafty!
Awesome Elsie! I am horrible at keeping plants alive so this would probably be a good idea for me since those look harder to kill:-) Super cute and colorful..Love it! ~Christina
I posted a similar kind of picture on instagram yesterday, and was told that many of the flowers are dried and stuck on with pins. Still pretty, but kinda sad!
beautiful!
These are such pretty colours!
http://19thmainstreet.wordpress.com/
oh my god! what is that succulent with the purple tips?! is it real?!
That planter is rad. I would love to find a purple edged dude like that one. What a great color!
That planter is perfection.
Wow such a lovely plant!
http://erstwhilefelicity.blogspot.co.uk/
this is adorable, i’ll definitely make one of these for my home!
So adorable! What colorful cacti! I am terrible at caring for plants but I think this one may be worth a try – especially since cactus are supposed to be pretty hearty plants. Thanks for sharing!

Cacti and succulents are the perfect combination of low maintenence and prettiness! I absolutely love these colors!
Too cute! I’m definitely digging the variety of color.
these are beautiful! i haven’t had tonnes of success with plants, but cacti seem hassle-free and so pretty for spring!
Love love love this planter!

This is perfect! Your choice of plants is just right. I too am a huge fan of house plants. They add just the right touch to make a house a home.
What kind of soil is that? Don’t mean to be accusatory or anything, but it doesn’t look like it’s the right kind of soil for succulents (though correct me if I’m wrong!)
I’m from the Mojave Desert in California and live in Florida now so I can’t help but love this! So pretty, brilliant use of color.

This is gorgeous! What’s the name of the blue one?
love the variety, such a perfect planter!!
I adore these. I think it’s high time I start adding some life to my home as well! Great inspiration here.
Loveeeeeeeee it!
Thanks for sharing! And a little did you know… you can take the pit of an avocado and grow a tree! I currently have three in my window sill and all are sprouting.
I’m also a big bamboo fan… for those with black thumbs they are GREAT plants, you don’t even need soil. Just use some rocks and change the water every two weeks (ps. Ikea is a great place to get bamboo).
beautiful! which variety is the purple tipped echeveria?
and once again you create the cutest thing on earth…..
This planter is very cool & I love that purple cactus! I made one not so long ago, but I am waiting for them all to start flowering again!
I love succulents. If there is one non-food I like to grow, it’s those. Did you know that those cacti flowers are usually fake ones glued on?! A friend of mine showed up (they pulled theirs off), and a week later hers flowered for real!
Oh, I love this! I found an old fountain in the trash about a month ago and I am dying to turn it into a succulent planter!
I love this! But unfortunately I think I’m the only one in the world to actually know how to kill cacti!

Looks gorgeous – and for some reason quite unusual too!
Beautiful 🙂

Elsie, How do you suggest re-potting cactus plants without stabbing yourself? Do you just wear gardening gloves? I’ve tried but I keep getting pricked, they are so much sharper than they look! Any tips would be appreciated! 🙂
I absolutely love this!! Thanks for sharing!

Soooo cute! I love it!
Please check out and follow my blog! I’d really appreciate it! <3

I made something like this with my mom last spring. Very fun, super pretty results. But now, a year later, all the succulents have grown so much that the garden looks weird! It’s all spindly and the plants have grown up and outward, so the cute little bundled look is gone. Any idea how to keep that from happening? Is it like bonsai, where you have to prune them and keep the roots in check? Or is the cacti garden just one of those temporary beautiful things?
Can anyone help me on how to take care of cacti and succulents? How are you supposed to water them and do they need any special soil? 🙂
Love this. Do you know the name of that beautiful succulent with the purple tipped leaves. I’d love to add that to my front porch pots!
Love it! I bought my very first flowers for my house this week and I can’t stop moving them from room to room because they just instantly brighten it up. I think I need a planter similar to this in my living room.

What is that darling purple and green succulent? It looks like the hens and chicks that I have outside my front door. Is it a specific variety?
I love, love, LOVE this!
love this SO much! the colours are fantastic, and i love the planter too.
This is so cute! Now that it is (almost) spring I can’t wait for all of the color- what agreat way to bring it inside!

I read online that succulents require good drainage – I have a couple baby succulents that I want to transfer to a new container but I haven’t found the right one yet… Your container looks like it doesn’t have drainage holes? Is it okay to use containers without holes?
Lovely planter! What is that purple guy called? I’ve never seen anything like it.
that purple succulent is gorgeous! I need to find one of those for my glass teardrop terrarium… cant wait to hang it in my living room!
I never though cacti were cute but this post changed my mind, such wonderful colours and not harsh at all!
Oh, I LOVE this! Those succulents are so vibrant! And that vintage container? Swoon!
Oh my gosh, I bet I could totally DIY a version of this using those same hairpin legs you used for your pallet table! <3

Wow! This is one of the cuttest and colorful succulent arrangement I have seen so far! I can’t get enough of this type of plant!
Well done!
Very cute!
I am super envious of this planter you scored! I wish I could have one just like it or similar. I love how you added different colored cacti
What a sweet planter! I want one, too!
yeahh all those little flowers are straw flowers unfortunately. if you pull them off then it’ll allow the real ones to grow!
Beautiful arrangement! This inspired me to pick up some flowers while I was just out at the market. 🙂

I love how colorful this is! The planter was a great find, too. You’re inspiring me to get my hands dirty.
Where did you find the purple tipped one? It’s super cute but I’ve never seen it before.

How adorable! I don’t have any plants, at the moment, I am ashamed to say. I think my son would destroy them.
I have a vintage plant stand just like this that I thrifted! I just can’t seem to find the right pot to fit inside of it! Did your white pot come with the stand? It’s gorgeous!
I really love what you did with it. It’s beautiful in it’s own way. The composion of the white, black and colours is just genius. Well done. 🙂
best wishes from Germany,
Lorelei.
