A good dining space can often be the hub of the home. This is the place where friends and family gather for food, games, or just great conversation. Abbey Hendrickson is here today to share her beautiful dining area with us!
"My family and I bought our once-abandoned
1880’s farmhouse just over a year ago. Truthfully, I really didn’t want to live
out in the middle of nowhere. Sidewalks were one of my chief requirements when
we were looking for a house, so it came as a complete shock when I fell for
this place. We love to host big, crazy dinners, and—as luck would have it—our
dining room is a great space for throwing parties."
"After a full year of non-stop DIY renovations
(most of which are still in progress), we decided to throw a Last Days of Summer
party to celebrate all of that hard work.
About 50 of our favorite
people came, half of whom camped out overnight. The
morning after the party, we lounged around the dining room table with our
smart, fabulous friends—laughing, talking about art, arguing over politics, passing interesting books back and forth, and nursing well-deserved hangovers. It was truly one of the best
weekends ever."
"Anyone
who’s ever worked on a big project knows that, at some point, you may begin to
doubt decisions you’ve made: Maybe the renovation projects take longer than
you expect, maybe your wallet doesn’t match your dreams, maybe your dog rolls
in something stinky, or maybe your kiddo gets a cold. Whatever the issue, I can
tell you that gathering around a table with your besties is curative. That
weekend certainly made me step back and appreciate our decision to buy a beat
up old farmhouse. The goal isn’t just to “finish” the house; the goal is to
fill it with life and love."
Thank you for sharing your gorgeous space, Abbey! You can see more peeks of Abbey's home over on her lovely blog Aesthetic Outburst.

This is gorgeous. I love the repeated orbs: the lamp, the globe. All those little touches make the difference, and I love how the character of the old farmhouse come through. Good job!

So jealous of that window seat, and I love the idea of putting books inside of a hutch instead of dishes.
What a beautiful home! I love Abbey’s perspective on renovations, it’s hard not to get in a hurry and want everything to be “finished”!
loving this and loving that she said it’s more important to fill a home with life and love than ‘finish it’ (something i’m always guilty of!). Thanks for sharing!
Wonderful heartfelt words all the things a home should have – life and life

Oh my. This is wonderful! And I was so excited to see the bookcase– I just redid an old china cabinet and turned it into a bookcase and was feeling a little insecure about it. . .until I saw this one! Granted, mine is not nearly as beautiful, but still : )
Love the rug too. And the globe with the letter on top of the bookcase. And so many other things. . .Beautifully done!

Apparently several of your readers are people that I know, and a couple of them told me about this feature, since they recognized one of my drawings in the photos. One of the framed pictures on top of the cabinet is actually one of my pencil drawings! (the b&w one of her son in the glasses and striped jacket) I have followed Abbey’s blog for some time, which, in the short version, eventually led to the drawing. I have been looking through your blog now, and its awesome! I will probably become a regular reader of yours as well now. I am excited to have my work make an appearance here, even if it is indirectly!
This is a great home! I love every detail of every artwork in this house!! 🙂
The light hanging over her table is so cool! Love it.
Check out my blog: http://thechicstreetblog.blogspot.com/
Love it! That is one gorgeous room! I am jealous of the dining table – not always easy to find something that is functional and that looks so good and works with the room…and the flattened pennies – what a great idea! I have a handful lying around, this is great inspiration to actually do something with them!
Love those plants and that bookshelf. It is so amazing how I love those kind of post you do. When I walk at night and I see beautiful houses or appartments with lights, and maybe while I walk I can catch the wallpaper, a wall print, etc and I always dreamt of having the power to visit those places, and by your posts, I can! How lovely!

I love this series. Her home is beautiful! And gives me hope that our dream of owning a fixer-upper is possible 🙂

Prettiest home I’ve ever seen!
Where can this light fixture be found? I love it!
i adore that penny wreath.
Thank you all so much for your super sweet comments! The rug is from a store called Nasco Home (in Waverly, NY)- unfortunately, it didn’t come with a tag or identifying marks. I found the light fixture at a thrift store- it’s a Tom Dixon knock-off. I wish you could all come over for coffee! 🙂 xo, Abbey
I love the pictures of the little girl she is adorable.
