We had so much fun working on blog articles for October! These were a few of our absolute favorites: Autumn is one of our favorite seasons for food! This month we shared recipes for perfect alfredo sauce, brussels sprouts chips, curried pumpkin soup, homemade mini corn dogs, homemade cheese crackers (pictured above) and baked fruit. And a few spooky recipes… halloween milkshakes, candy apples and a ghostly party cake. October is the birthday of our local shop, Red Velvet! We've learned so much in these past four years of owning local businesses. We shared some other business tips this month like our blog post planning marker board, how we plan blog posts and easy ways to save time (they really work!). Elsie made a font with an iPad app! It was so fun. Learn more here. Sister Styles were really fun this month! We had Coats + Stripes, Flea Market Finds, Changing Colors and Welcome October. We shared this fun and easy tassel scarf project. It's perfect for adding a little color to cozy layered outfits! Kelli created an incredible embroidered top DIY. It's pretty incredible. We introduced a new feature this month called At Home With. We featured the homes of Denise Bovee and Kristin Rogers. Both their spaces are gorgeous and so full of life. We can't wait for you to see the homes we have coming next month! We shared some local spots that we love. Elle's, Homegrown Food and Wickman's Garden Village. Emma shared her fitness story. So inspiring!!! Fantastic Mr. Fox was our favorite couple costume, which one is yours? This lion hoodie project makes us smile. We get really really excited about Halloween around here. Katie's Goldilocks and The Three Bears Costume is amazinggggg.Let's all say "Awweeeeeeeeeeee" in unison? So CUTE. Elsie shared her Autumn fireplace display and a sneak peek at a living room. Kara shared 10 Tips for Decorating Small, Rented Spaces. This DIY cart is so cute and practical too. We love both ways Rachel styled it! This Starburst Mirror DIY is so pretty and polished. It totally does not look homemade. I can't wait to make one for our home! Would make a great gift too. These bookends are the cutest thing! They are made from repurposed vintage telephones. Elsie started a new series called "Nesting" to share small projects for her new home. These painted pillows were the first of that series. These DIY moccasins melt our heart and they are so simple to make! We also loved this piano plush toy for kiddos! Six quick scarf styling ideas. We also celebrated the launch of A Beautiful Mess for ModCloth, our Autumn fashion collection! You can watch our lookbook video here. Over at Everyday Emma, Emma shared photos of her kitchen progress and snapshots from the Texas State Fair. Over at Everyday Elsie, Elsie shared projects from her new home along with photos from her everyday life.
Thanks so much for reading A Beautiful Mess in October! We are looking forward to November. We have plans for delicious Thanksgiving recipes, large scale home decor projects and fashion projects that will keep you cozy all winter. xoxo. Elsie + Emma

Was quite a wonderful month October, I’ve learned so many interesting things from your blog!
This is completely unrelated to the post except for the part where I’m super jealous of your bangs, Elsie.
I wear glasses, though. Huge, black frame, bulky guys that I love a lot! But I need someone’s opinion on this–heavy bangs + heavy frames? Is this too much to wear *every day*?
I work at an optometrists office. We’re not too terribly, terribly professional around these parts but I do still deal with 70 year old, Midwestern lady patients on the regular. I don’t know if that’s important information or not.
Am I thinking about it too much? I think maybe I am?
wow…october has been a great month. love that you do a monthly roundup of all of your posts!!
I can’t wait to do of these diys myself!
I made Emma’s alfredo sauce last night, added it to some funny shaped pasta and tossed in some steamed broccoli..it was awesome! my four year old even wanted seconds! thanks for sharing! -Jess

The Fantastic Mr. Fox costume was brilliant! Thanks for the inspiration π
The baked fruit looks really good. I’ll have to pin it and give it a try.
Monthly roundup, such a great idea!
What a fun month! The east coast has a disaster and we lose everything and all you have to say is “Look how impressed we are by ourselves this month!” You guys are self-absorbed idiots and I will no longer read this blog.
It’s been a great month! I’ve so enjoyed your posts this month, and I’m looking forward to seeing what’s next!
All awesome posts, but the iFont one was the best tip ever! xx

Thank you for making my October so much better! #all the inspiration!
Living on the other side of the world, but from America, I don’t come to this blog for relevant news. I visit as a reprieve from my surroundings. This is for fun…for brighter days. If you want dark and “real,” go to a news website, not a lifestyle blog. Peace.
I always look forward to your guys’ “end of the month” posts!
