It’s blood orange season! Here’s a simple, delicious recipe for citrus sangria. It’s the perfect solution for a last-minute party or casual weekend get-together with friends!
Blood Orange Sangria, serves six
1 cup blood orange juice (can be substituted with any citrus juice)
1 lemon (sliced)
1 blood orange (sliced)
3 mandarins or clementines (sliced)
1 bottle of champagne
In a pitcher combine the sliced fruit, juice and champagne. Serve chilled. Enjoy!
My favorite thing about champagne punches is that you can pre-make everything for a party and just add the champagne when the guests arrive!
PS. I made this recipe (and a few others!) in collaboration with West Elm. They’re going to become recipe cards you can pick up in the stores for free soon! Products featured: Bar Cart, Titanium Knives, Kitchen Towels.

Looks delish! Question: what is the can in the ingredient pic? I don’t see it on the list.
You guys sure know how to make the party go with a swing!

Oh, yes please! Even though it snowed just today, I can’t help myself– I’m totally getting in the citrus mood! …And I’m always in a champagne mood ;D

Look good except for the Cook’s. Ye gads, you’re looking for headache city with that stuff. Not suggesting you use actual champagne for the punch, but when it comes to sparkling wine, the über cheap stuff that is carbonated (instead of bubbly due to fermentation) can do bad things to you. 😉
YUM! Debating whether to wait until Friday night to try this, as it looks so good i’m sure i’ll over do it mmmmmm mmmmmm

Can’t wait to try making this at home. Right now, I’ve been obsessed with French 75 cocktails. They also have champagne and citrus! Recipe here: http://districtandmore.com/2014/01/12/french-75-cocktail/
I absolutely adore Sangria and have a mild obsession w blood oranges. So this is more than perfect.

Sounds delicious!
I see ginger beer in the picture, did you use ginger beer at all?
this looks amazing! but i am also confused about the can… vernor’s ginger ale…hmmmm. might add a nice taste to it?
This looks delicious!! I just linked your basil bloody mary recipe on my blog, http://www.papery rain.com for tomorrow’s post. Love it so much and your beautiful blog!
Vernor’s ginger soda. It’s sweeter than most ginger ales and a little bit spicy because the formula contains just a hint of cayenne pepper. You can usually find is in the Midwest (it’s from Michigan), but I’ve been able to find it at a few stores in Maryland as well. It’s definitely worth it if you can find it.
I had the same question. Was the ginger ale suppose to be added?
I loved seeing Vernor’s on your cart! So delicious!
Do you put it in the sangria? Because that sounds pretty amazing, actually…and blood orange is delicious, too!
I’ve only ever tried Vernor’s with cranberry juice – also wonderful!!!
OMG, yum!!! I need to make this!
Great recipe!
Now this is a sangria I’d like to try! Yummm!

This sounds like such a good mimosa! From what I know, it’s not sangria unless it has brandy 🙂
That’s not a Sangria, that’s what we Spanish people call “Valencian Water”. Sangria is always made with red wine. Anyway, it’s a great recipe.
Couldn’t agree more…
Hi Girls,
As a french daily reader, I am a bit chocked by the “Champagne” bottle…. How dare they and you call that Champagne… It’s simply a bubbly with it’s great for a cocktail.
I will do your recipe this weekend with Blanquette de Limoux (a french Bubbly) as not every bubbly in France is call Champagne…
Awesome looking cocktail darling 🙂 🙂
que fotos mas bonitas! ohhya quiero que llegue el veranitoo! me encanta sangria 🙂 !
muchos besos y abrazos !

Yumz. Sangria is the best… But I’ve never had a blood orange. Do they taste the same as regular oranges?
Yum! I definitely want to try this!

I thought sangria is made with wine?
Наверное, очень вкусно!

this gets me all excited for spring and summer!
xx
Sangria is my weakness when it comes to “adult drinks”. My biggest problem, though, is making the effort to actually get it prepared. This one looks quick and painless though, so thank you~!
Yum, sounds perfect! 🙂
Oh my word. These sound so good! My roommates and I are sure to enjoy soon 🙂

Yes, Vernors!…only the best ginger ale ever made! Although I still live in the Midwest, I have not been able to find it outside of Michigan though.
Looks very pretty, but that should not be called sangría, that should be called agua de Valencia instead. I come from where both beverages where created, and that is definitely agua de valencia-ish. Sangría has no champagne in it, it is wine. Agua de Valencia has champagne and orange juice plus more sprits.
Thanks for your comment! I couldn’t believe nobody was going to point that out!
Sangría = red wine + fruits+ spirits
Agua de Valencia = bubbly + orange + spirits
Spirits may vary according to the recipe
ooo! I must admit that for me it is still too cold to be making fruity drinks like these. But I am definitely saving this post so that I can impress my friends as soon as spring really kicks in in Scandinavia!
I am always impressed by your amazing photos, and you have done it again! really brilliant!

Congrats on the collaboration! This looks super yummy!
Yum! I might just have to try this!
While this sounds yummy, it is not Sangria, at all. The only thing this drink and sangria have in common is the citrus slices.

Firt of all, I’m such a fan of ABM, but this time… do you know that Sangría is ALWAYS made with red wine? if you made the mix with another thing, that’s not Sangría. Sangría is so tipical for us like a capuccino for italian people, please, you can make a version with only a fruit (without apple that makes no sense) but make it without wine is like make capuccino without coffee.
XOXO from Spain
I don’t know if it’s taste like Spanish sangria but I definately have to try this one. I was in Spain few months ago and I fell in love with sangria. Still have one extra bottle at home 🙂

I like to drink Eppa Sangria – it already has the blood oranges in it. You cna buy it for like $10 and don’t have to deal with the hassle. Plus its sooooo good!
Nice with champagne.
