First of all, if this post title made your eyes bug out and your mouth silently whispered, “OMG,” then you’re welcome. Second of all, you may have thought, “Hmm, what is the actual flavor of candy corn?” Well, if you look up the ingredients and nutritional information, you’ll notice that the main flavor profile is pretty much just straight up sugar. There are also a few different versions of this shot floating around the Internet, and nobody else seems to feel that candy corn has a distinct flavor either. So I didn’t worry too much about replicating the flavor so much as the sugar content. But good news! I think I succeeded.Β
Ok. This first step will make both your first and last layer, so once it’s mixed together, we will save half of this mixture for the end.Β Pour 1 cup of water into a small saucepan and pour 2 packets of the unflavored gelatin into the water.Β
Also, I used disposable tall shot glasses (I used these).
Warm the water and gelatin over a low heat, stirring occasionally, until all the gelatin has dissolved (about 5 minutes). Remove pan from the heat and add 1/2 your can of condensed milk to the mixture. Stir until the ingredients combine. Add 2/3 cup vanilla vodka. Cover and set aside half of your milk mixture (you’ll add food coloring to it and use it as your last layer later). Evenly distribute the first half of your mixture throughout your 20 shots (just don’t fill them more than 1/3 of the way full). Refrigerate your shots until firm (30-40 minutes).
When the first layer is firm, pour another 1 cup of water into your saucepan and add 1 packet of gelatin to make your middle layer. Warm the water until the gelatin dissolves, remove from heat, and stir in the box of orange Jell-O until that dissolves as well. Add 1/3 cup vanilla vodka. Evenly distribute orange layer on top of white layer and refrigerate until chilled.
When your orange layer is solid, retrieve the second half of your milk mixture that you set aside in the first step and add in a few drops of yellow food coloring. If the mixture has already started to set, put it in the microwave until warm and still until the lumps dissolve.Β Distribute your yellow layer on top of the orange and put it back into the fridge until set.
Whoa!! These guys are looking authentic! Once all your layers are set, you are ready to serve your candy corn creations.
Serve these on a spooky black tray and the color will really pop! Obviously it goes without saying (but I will anyways) that these would be perfect for any fall gathering or Halloween party (although these shot glasses look pretty amazing too!). The flavor ends up a yummy orange cream concoction and you can even make these the night before your party, which is always a plus in my book. I also hope you appreciate that, in a rare move, I restrained myself from using puns in this post. I didn’t want it to become too candy corny…heh heh. xo. Laura

Paired with the recipe I posted on my blog today, bacon caramel popcorn, we have the start to a pretty excellent Halloween party! These are so incredibly adorable, and I’m super impressed by how perfectly you matched the jello colors to the real candy colors.

So cute for an adult Halloween party!
You mean, not for a kids’ party? π
This question has been burning since I first saw you use iced cake Smirnoff in a recipe – does cake vodka actually taste like cake?!
Sadly, all the cake vodka I’ve tried smells delicious and cake-like but tastes like paint thinner, as vodka does!
Yes it does taste like cake.
You are amazing Laura ! Love these x The colours match perfectly !!
Yum! So creative, I have to try it sometime!

The shots look so cute! If only we had those candy corn candies in Finland..

Just a bit of a typo. The recipe required condensed milk, but on your actual post you said evaporated.
“Remove pan from the heat and add 1/2 your can of evaporated milk to the mixture.”
π
Looks like the typo has since been corrected. The photo, instructions, and ingredient list all say “Condensed milk”. Nice catch, though!
I don’t know that it’s that much different from vanilla vodka, they are pretty interchangeable to me, but both delicious!
Laura π
These are SO awesome! Love your Halloween ideas! I’m way impressed by how evenly you divided each color! Haha it’s the little things, I guess! π

Wow awesome post!

I’m still trying to decide if these would be delicious or sickening. But either way, they’re adorable and I love them!
xoxo

They are adorably cute! Without tasting them, I can say sickening sweet for me. Sweetened condensed milk is that way and on top of the jello. I love making jello shots because my party friends love them and appreciate me making them. I like making my own recipes too.
How cute are these?! Such a fun idea for a Halloween party. I’m pretty sure mine wouldn’t turn out this perfect, but still delicious I’m sure. π
Oh my gosh what they look amazing! We are maybe having a halloween party, and if we are, I am definitely going to try this out!
Omg these look amazing!

These look amazing! Seriously, you’re all wizards over there, I swear it. One question though.. How do you drink (eat?) them? Do you have to use a spoon? or can you suck them out? haha? orrr, how?
Maybe I could use thin plastic shot glasses from the dollar store and squeeze them out?
Thanks for constantly sharing all your crazy amazing ideas you guys!
Whoops! Thanks April, I always mix those up π
Laura
These are a bit challenging to get out because the shot glasses are tall and skinny, but you can either use a spoon or switch them out for glasses that are short and wide instead π
Laura
This is a fun and yummy…ergo perfect for parties..

I’m usually not one for over-complicated party treats, but these just might be worth it – way too cute!

Well this got me in the Halloween mood! They look so yummy!!
I can only eat a small portion of candy corn at a time, or I’ll get sick of it. However, these look great! I can see myself drinking too many of theseβ¦ they’re so pretty to look at!

OMG my mind was just blown. These look so fun. They’d be perfect (and dangerous) for a Halloween party.
Laura! Just to let you know I clicked on this in class and the words that came out of my mouth were “OH. MY. GOD.” (Pardon me) and girls behind me said the same thing and were like candy corn Jell-O shots! It was a really funny moment.
Thank you for this lol!

Uuuuummm…..YUM! And that is some goooood vodka! Thank you for sharing! I think my lady friends and I have some whipping up to do now….
Ha ha, great! That’s the reaction I was going for!

Love the addition of vodka in the jello shots. Cut dessert
These look so cute! Shared them on my facebook page. π
These candy corn jello shots are SO awesome! You can definitely consider I will be be recreating the recipe for Halloween at the end of the month. Love it!
Such cute looking!
OMG! Was exactly what I thought… I’m sure these taste WAY better than Candy Corn!
What can I use instead of using liquor . Is there a substitute for this?
Hi Gllady’s! You can just leave it out without subbing anything. π -Jacki
These are SOOOOO fun!
Hey, really excited to try your recipe (but I’m thinking about adding rumchatta), but I need to know, is it the small box of jello, or the larger one? I can’t quite read the box in the photo.
Going to make these on Thursday for a Halloween adult party! My friends and I are so excited to try them. Thanks for the recipe!
I’m wondering why you put 2/3 vodka in the first section, then 1/3 in the second and none in the last? Can you just put 1/3 in each color? Just wondering the thought on this as I’m getting ready to make these?
2 things Laura… 1) is it definitely sweetened condensed milk and 2) which size “box” of jello? the large or the small. would make a huge diff in how it sets up. Please post response
an answer to the other Shelley’s question. With the first section (white) indeed it calls for 2/3 cup but you reserve half of the white mix for the 3rd section (the 3rd is when you add the yellow food coloring. SO… this last section actually has the other 1/3 cup vodka. I was confused too until I re-read it a few times.
Hi Shelley,
Yes, it is sweetened condensed milk.
The small box of jello.
Thanks! -Emma
Is the plan to use the last packet of gelatin in the yellow layer?
Because you save half the mixture in the first step and add food coloring to it before you use the second half as the last layer. So, you are technically making your first and last layer in the first step and dividing it in half π
Laura
You put two packets in the first step because you save half the mixture and use it for your last layer later. The second step for the middle layer gets one packet so you end up using three overall π
Laura
Actually, you don’t need the third envelope of unflavored gelatin for the second layer because you are using the flavored gelatin. That “unflavored” gelatin tastes nasty so I only use it when I need to. I learned that the hard way!
What size box of jello?
Hi Peter! It’s the small box of jell-o π -Jacki
How long does it take for the jello to set for each layer?
I love this idea and plan to make tonight, but curious how does the second half of the white mixture not solidify before you have a chance to use it for the yellow layer?
I think it’s because it wasn’t chilled so mine didn’t really start to set at all before I used it. If it does, you can pop it in the microwave and heat it, stirring every so often until it melts again π
Laura
Yeah! I just made these and they’re super easy and cute. I bought the shot glasses you recommended and quickly learned that you cannot squeeze them to loosen them, as your normally would with a Jello shot, but a quick run of my finger around the inside helps! (Don’t judge me–we are eating Jello shots, after all!) Thanks for an adorable party treat.
Hi! I was just curious, was this recipe for the small box or the big box of jello? Thanks! :]
LLLOOVVEEEE!!!! You guys are geniuses π
Love this idea, but how do you eat them?
I was thinking the same thing!
I made these for our Halloween party on Saturday and everyone LOVED them!
The only issue I had was getting them out. People had to use spoons to scoop the deliciousness out because the shot glasses are hard plastic and would crack when you squeezed them. How did you all eat them?
They were a complete hit and I’ve already sent others to this site for the recipe, so thank you, Laura!
Hi! Can you please tell me if the Jello is the large sized box or small one!! I’m making these for a party on Friday night! Cannot wait to try them!
Use small box. They are easy to get out if you use 2oz portion cups & spray with Pam. Slide right out!
With the given recipe how many jello shots did this make?
Given the recipe, how many shots did this make?
Given the recipe, I am wondering how many Jell-O shots this makes?
How long do you think this would take start to finish? I’m trying to see if I need to split this up into two days!!
Can you use plain vodka?
Hi Lis! You can use plain vodka. π -Jacki
Yum going to try this!
The last section for the yellow layer is a bit confusing to me. You say to take the rest of your milk and add a few drops of yellow food coloring.
Is the yellow layor only the condensed milk with food coloring or am I suppose to mix it with the water and gelatin like the first section??
Which is correct??
So I just add yellow color to plain condensed milk for the top? A little confused.
My first layer has been in the refrigerator overnight and is still not solid. What am I missing? Doesn’t seem like the mixture is right.
The picture shows condensed so I’d go with that!
Small box π
Laura
We did have to use a spoon to loosen them (or a finger!) from our taller glasses, but it appears that you can also spray some Pam in them first and they should slide out π
Laura
Save half the mixture in the first step and add food coloring to it before you use the second half as the last layer. So, you are technically making your first and last layer in the first step and dividing it in half π

Can you use sugar free jello?
Yep! π
I’m not sure! It should be solid in under an hour, so maybe the gelatin was bad? I would try it again with a different packet π
Laura
It should make about 20 shots π
Laura
It takes about 40 minutes for each layer to set, so you should be able to make it in one day if you have enough time π
Laura
I tried this for my halloween party…followed recipe perfectly. The first two layers worked perfect. Howeve by the time I went to put in the yellow layer it had already started to turn into a pudding like texture and didn’t look so good as the top layer. Also, people had to basically break the shot glass to get the orange and white part out. They weren’t bad though and some looked great! Some however had uneven clumpy yellow at the top. I think wide shot glasses would work better.
I made these yesterday for today’s USF Bulls tailgate. They came out great, and were a huge hit. Thank you for perfect step by step directions.
I made these and they came out exactly as pictured. Really sweet with a hint of orange. I topped them off with whipped cream!
I actually made these for Halloween. They look really cute, but are not at all practical to eat. The clear plastic allows you to see the different layers, but it is too rigid to squeeze out the shot. We let ours sit out AND used a small plastic knife to loosen the shot from the glass, and it was still difficult.
Enjoyed reading the article above , really explains everything in detail, the article is very interesting and effective.Thank you and good luck for the upcoming articles
I made this for my party came out amazing.
Legit speechless, these candy corn jello shots recipe looks unreal!!! I am obsessed with desserts! Definitely it will be yummy!
Gorgeous pictures. I made these candy corn jello shots for the super bowl party and it was a crowd favorite. I’m also gonna pin this post on my Pinterest board my followers will love it. Thanks for sharing, Laura!
Absolutely delicious! And what a beautiful and colorful drink. I gave it a try and thought I had to impress a few neighbors with the delicious treat. They could not get enough of it, and it was easily the center of attention, everyone wanted to give it a try. Great work, keep them coming!
These turned out great! One suggestion, I made the orange jello after I put the first layer in the fridge to cool. That gave the orange jello time to cool down before I added it to the shot glasses.. The first time I did it, I added it right away and it melted into the first layer
These were a huge hit for Halloween… So yummy! We handed them out to parents. Some of them came back twice! π I’m making them for a Christmas party tonight with strawberry jello and coloring the top layer green. Thanks for the great recipe!
Hi Laura, They look amazing. I will try. thanks
Super cute!!
i love candy corn
add or subtract different flavor alcohol, like coconut rum, butterscotch, whip cream
