I was surprised to find that blood oranges are in season during cold weather months. Sometime last spring I was wanting to make a citrus salad similar to this and I could not find blood oranges anywhere. Turns out that the rich red color is in part due to the cold weather, so you can only find them in cold weather months. So even though citrus might not be the first thing on your mind today I still highly recommend seeking out some blood oranges before it's too late.Citrus Salad with Yogurt Dressing
1 grapefruit
1 orange
1 blood orange
1 tablespoon greek yogurt
1 tablespoon finely diced onion
1/4 cup (or slightly less) citrus juices
1 teaspoon honey
a few pinches of chopped, fresh mintRemove the rind from the fruit and cut into thin slices, reserving the juices. If you have a couple slices that are not the prettiest use them for their juice. Waste not, want not. In a small bowl stir together the yogurt, citrus juice, honey and chopped onion. Sprinkle over the citrus and top with a little mint. Enjoy as a fancy starter or side dish this season! xo. Emma

Growing up we had all kinds of citrus trees. Grapefruit, lemon, lime, and oranges. It was the best! Generally they are more of a winter fruit, though if there isn’t a freeze during the winter (it actually does happen in Arizona!) then you can still have fruit later in the spring and summer. 🙂
That salad looks delicious! I might have to hunt me up some blood oranges!
Yum! Love the bright colors 🙂
That looks so delicious. I love fruits and these citrus fruits are definitely in my top 5 favorites. Plus, perfect in synch with all the new year’s resolution of being healthy. On purpose? 😉

Citrus salad is so good! I posted a similar recipe on my blog months ago. I added pomegranate too, and my dressing was vanilla yogurt, cinnamon, and mint combined. Very tasty!
I do this with some finely sliced shallots and a sherry vinaigrette. It’s great as a refreshing side to a winter stew.
Yes, oranges, apples, kiwi fruit – all winter ones! Clever mother nature puts the vitamin C on offer just when you need it more.

Looks good – can’t wait to try that out!
One of my goals for the year is to make healthier choices and eat less processed foods. Blood Red Oranges have such rich flavor and would be a perfect healthier option! =)
Thanks for the recipe!

blood oranges are my absolute favorite. i think they only grow in 2 states here in America, and you’re right – you can only get them a few months out of the year!
Tried it today, and it’s sooo tasty, I especially love the dressing, to which I added some salt and pepper.. perfect Sunday salad !
Thank you for all the great recipes, and for your ideas in general girls; even in Switzerand where I live, you inspire me. xx
