I must admit that I am a little partial to yeasted donuts (which these are not). But one thing that baked donuts have going for them is they are SO much faster to make. These can be ready to solve your donut craving in about thirty minutes…unless you’re the type of baker who listens to podcasts, browses the Internet, and then distractedly starts cleaning or organizing your kitchen while mixing up the batter. Then it might be more like 45 minutes to an hour. π
These are cake-like in that the crumb bakes up soft and spongey. They are not overly dense like some cake donuts tend to be. And then they get topped with a silky (but not overly sweet) cream cheese glaze. Honestly the hardest thing about making these is trying not to eat too many Oreos in the process. π
Cookies + Cream Baked Donuts, makes six (double if you’d like a dozen).
3/4 cup flour
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup cocoa
1/2 cup buttermilk
2 tablespoons canola or vegetable oil
1/2 tablespoon vinegar (I used apple cider, but distilled white is good too)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Glaze:
3 oz softened cream cheese
2 tablespoons heavy cream
2 tablespoons powdered sugar
4-5 centers from Oreo cookies (use the cookies for the top!)
Whisk together the flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and cocoa so no clumps remain. In a separate bowl stir together the buttermilk, oil, vinegar, and vanilla extract. Combine the wet ingredients in with the dry and stir until combined.Β
Slightly spray a donut pan with nonstick cooking spray. Fill with the batter. Bake at 350Β°F for 14-15 minutes. Allow to cool in the pan for a few minutes before removing to a cooling rack.
For the glaze, simply whisk together all the glaze ingredients. You want your cream cheese to be very soft so that your glaze will be smooth without big clumps of cream cheese. Taste and add more powdered sugar if you like. Chop up the remaining cookies for the tops of the donuts.
Once the donuts have mostly cooled (they can still be a little warm, but not hot as that will melt the glaze), pour the glaze over the tops and sprinkle with cookie crumbs. Serve along side a tall glass of milk. That’s an order. π Enjoy! xo. Emma

For the record, these are good as hell.
This looks like a great recipe to Veganize! My sister and her husband are staunch vegans and I am always looking for sweet treats like this to try. Oreos are vegan and you could substitute soy butter and soy milk (plus a dash of vinegar) for the butter and buttermilk. We are lucky enough to find vegan cream cheese where I live, but a simply glaze could work as well.
YUM! I love donuts that aren’t fully covered in glaze or frosting. Savory and sweet for days. doitfortheirony.com / Creative blog for the future obsessed.
I am definitely drooling right now. These look so delicious – can’t wait to try out the recipe! xx

Since I don’t have a donut pan, would these work in a Madeline or cupcake pan? Any recommended changes to baking time would be great. These look amazing

what about turning these into some chocolatey cupcakes? do you think this recipe would work for a muffin pan?
Just for fun I looked to see how many posts you have tagged with donuts, and I was surprised to find this is the 14th donut recipe you’ve posted! Haha, I love donuts too- been meaning to try out your biscuit donuts recipe since you first posted the recipe!
I was in Portland for the first time recently and tried out Voodoo Donuts; if you haven’t heard of this phenomenon you should look them up- definitely the best donuts I have ever had (and I’m from the birthplace of Krispy Kreme!).

Holy Hell, these look amazing! On a somewhat related note, (because coffee+donuts=love) have you ever made your own flavored coffee creamer? I’ve heard a few things about how store-bought is bad for you, and every morning when I make my coffee I think, “I bet Emma and the girls could rock some homemade coffee creamer!” Just a thought π
This looks yum..my husband would be so impressed if i made this at home.. π

While I do love yeasted donuts, I love baked donuts because they are much easier and faster to make! I love the addition of the cream cheese in the frosting because it keeps the sweetness level balanced.

Mmm!! I’m sure this question has been asked and answered in the past, but if you don’t have a donut pan, can you use a cupcake pan with the same recipe? I just can’t bring myself to add a donut pan to my insane collection of baking stuff.
Ahhh
oh my gosh those look heavenly!

Yep, I am going to have to make these. Donuts are the best thing. Especially when there is chocolate involved.
What kind of flour did you use? Cake flour or all purpose or…? Thx! I can’t wait to get your answer to get going!!
