A little while ago I purchased some extra large interior washi tape from Etsy. I wasn’t sure what I would use it for, until I had the idea to give this doorway a little pop of color and texture. This project was so much fun, not too time consuming and it’s totally “renter friendly” too!
I love the look of painted stripes in home decor, but I’ve shyed away from them in the past because they look so time consuming. God knows I’m no perfectionist, so this method was the perfect alternative!
I found this fun larger washi tape at this Etsy Shop. I used nearly a whole roll of salmon and mint along with some painter’s tape from the hardware store to complete our doorway. It took me a few hours of taping and trimming with scissors. Totally fulfilling for anyone who loves instant gratification projects! π
Best part is… eventually, when I get tired of it, it will be super easy to remove! I love constantly changing our living space, so that possibility excites me!
Do you have any fun weekend projects planned? xo. elsie

awesome!!! I tried hanging pictures on my wall with washi tape but it keeps falling off. it might have something to do with our gross 80’s textured walls.
Me too. Looks like washi tape hasn’t improved in four years later. I wonder what brand this blogger used….?
omigosh, this is great!

I really like this! So cute! What I love most is how you framed the arch with it. People can also paint painters tape and decorate with it, too.
Stripes are a pain in the rear! We are painting our sunroom in black and white stripes, but because we are painting over real wood with bumps and knots, it’s time consuming.
That is like perfect especially if you renting and can’t do anything permanent .

I love this! I will probably be renting for a while, so this is a great idea!

This looks like a great idea! My only worry would be that with time (humidity and heat and all) the tape would start to roll off or sth. Or it would somehow attract more dust.
I’ve never heard of Washi Tape… thanks much for opening my eyes, ladies!

OMG I am so excited about this! It also gives me an excuse to finally buy some of the washi tape I have hearted on Etsy!
Your archway is beautiful!
Elsie & Emma do it again! nice work girls. this is an awesome project & it makes me think about what else I could put washi tape on. thanks for making my creative side of the brain work :))
And the washi tape won’t peel the paint? This is awesome, I’ll be living in a dorm in a few months so this is the perfect way to add something to the walls!
Lovely! It makes the doorway look really crisp, colourful and defined! I would totally try this! I think cutting shapes (like scallops) into the washi tape would be fun for another wall design. Thanks for sharing this really creative diy with us!

Omgosh!!! Love it! What a great way to brighten up a space. x

great idea:)
Adorable! There are so many possibilities with this stuff. Do you know if it can be used in bathrooms? I have a bathroom ceiling crying out for something interesting…My Weekend Projects: Tearing apart part of the front yard near the sidewalk where the weeds have gone nuts, and recovering/repainting a pair of cool vintage wood folding chairs I found in the alley. I’ll be blogging about it of course http://theyearoflivingfabulously.com Have a great weekend everyone! -Marie Vlasic

Woah! I had no idea there was extra-wide washi tape! When I saw this on Instagram the other day I was trying to imagine how many little strips you must’ve used! So cool!!
This turned out very pretty. ItΒ΄s perfect for a doorway like this one.
What a fun idea! Your doorway fits your painting so well, all of these colors and stripes! I’ve used washi tape in my interior as well and I love that I can just change it up anytime I want.

This is a fabulous idea!! Definitely a washi tape use that I’d never have thought of it!!

This is such an amazing idea! definitely want to try something like this in my university room!
Love this look. Thanks!
I didn’t use washi tape, but I did do a similar, easily-removable update to a space in my home with contact paper! My kitchen counters look so much better now. http://rentalrevival.com/home/2013/6/16/diy-countertop-revival
whoa! Love this! Might have to use this to decorate my new apartment!

What a fun idea! That’s awesome. I didn’t realise you could get such wide washi tape. I must remember this because I’m pretty sure my first place will be rented, so this would be a great alternative to painting π
I’m so happy I read this post today!
Today I was planning to buy supplies to paint multi colour stripes on my kitchen walls. It was going to be a BIG project that would probably take a few weeks to finish. This is a perfect alternative and it means that If I don’t get a stripe 100% straight the first time I can just peel it off and start again.
Thanks so much for sharing! I cant wait to get started!
Love and stuff,
Haylz
I love this! I’m so glad you shared it because now Ill be able to decorate my dorm room since we’re not allowed to paint. I can’t wait to try this!!
What an amazing fun idea. Perfect for renters like me who want to personalize a space without being allowed to paint! Can’t wait to try it.
Great idea! Really creative way to add color and texture to an area that’s so easy to overlook.
That has to be one of the best ideas of all time ! so made for me and all the other change freaks…

Okay that is seriously a very cool idea!e
Cute idea – I need an archway!
I love decorating with tape! I put the tape on my cutting mat and use a rotary cutter- you can cut them in bulk and get perfect strips!
hello. simply beautiful. can you show more of the bedroom. the handwriting and comforter are amazing too!
Fun! I love that your painting matches your walls! π
Such a cute idea! I haven’t picked up a large roll, but I’m inspired to now.
What a great idea! I love that it adds an unexpected punch of color to an otherwise unused space. This is one DIY I’m not too shy to try π

Elsie, this is an incredibly cute idea. I would have never even thought to decorate my house with TAPE! But I have a question for you – I’ve watched you decorate your house over the years and I’ve seen you do several permanent decorations to your home – like painting the cupboards with chalk paint and the painted wall that says “I love you more than ever”. But wonder how much of these cute things have to be undone when you try to sell your house? Was this an issue when trying to sell your previous home? I would like to implement some of your ideas into our home decor, but I’m hesitant, because I don’t think I want to have to repaint over my projects when we move out.
I can’t wait to try this out π Perfect for a rental! Thanks for sharing.
wow. love this
