Oreo truffles are one of my all time favorite things to make during the holidays. I was introduced to these about ten years ago when a friend of mine, Nathan, made me a batch as a holiday gift. At the time, I lived at home with my parents, and my mom and I fell deeply in love with these.
My mom appreciates sweets almost as much as me. Almost. Must be genetics. ๐
I believe he called them something different though. Reindeer tracks? Reindeer droppings? Something appetizing like that. ๐
Whatever the name, these are too delicious and way too easy to make. No baking required. I highly recommend making these to gift to friends or coworkers because they are highly addictive and made out of basically nothing but sugar and cream. So… you’ve been warned.
Easy Chocolate (Oreo) Truffles, makes about two dozen.
28-30 Oreo cookies, or other chocolate cookies a similar size
8 oz. softened cream cheese
12 oz. dark chocolate chips
4-6 oz. white chocolate chips (optional)
2-3 tablespoons crushed peppermints or candy canes
assorted holiday sprinkles or whatever you find in your pantry
First, crush the cookies. I like to use a food processor to do this. It makes it way faster. Then mix in the softened cream cheese with the crushed cookies.
Press the batter into small balls and place on plates or a cutting board lined with parchment or wax paper. Pop these in the freezer for 15-20 minutes.
Melt the dark chocolate in a double boiler or in the microwave. I melted mine in a microwave in a heat proof bowl on high for 30 seconds. Then I removed it and gave it a stir. Then back in the microwave on high for another 30 seconds, and so on until it was fully melted. This helps it not to get too hot and get those overly cooked crusty bits that can sometimes form.
Use a fork to dip the chilled balls (giggleโsorry, I have no class) in the melted chocolate. Gently tap the fork on the side of the bowl with the truffle on the end to remove excess chocolate. Place back on the lined plate. Immediately cover with sprinkles or crushed peppermints.
I also melted some white chocolate to get those splattered looking truffles. This is optional. You have to dirty yet another dish. But I think they look really cute, and you’re already making quite a mess, so why not? That’s my motto.ย
These will set on their own, but to speed up the process just pop them in the freezer again.
Place these in mini baking cups for a professional presentation. If you can find a pretty decorative box, you could totally put these inside and look like a genius. So, do that. Keep in mind these are made with chocolate and cream cheese, so they should be stored in the refrigerator when not being served/eaten.
Make these for someone with a sweet tooth in your life. Eat a few yourself first. xo. Emma

I’ve seen a variation of these floating around the internet! One of my coworkers actually made them for our Thanksgiving party and they were totally INSANE. Really great, creamy texture. I absolutely adore how you decorated these – so professional looking!

This is totally going to be my Christmas gift for people this year. Looks so fast and delicious. I will lay the blame on your girls for any weight gain though ๐
Yes yes yessssssss. These look amazing. By the title I thought it needed whole Oreos. I love the idea of these. Also, easy to adapt for vegans, just use vegan cream cheese & chocolate chips. Oreos are vegan already! :] // http://www.itscarmen.com โฒ
Do you keep the whole Oreo, cream and everything, or do you scrape out the cookie cream and just use the cookies? These look so tasty, and YES, EASY! Can’t wait to give it a try. ๐
I’ve been making these for years with almond bark instead of chocolate. They’re my husbands favorite dessert. So much so that we had them at our wedding!
Emma – LOVELY, looks so festive, must be yummy yummy
Yum! I made some on these on Monday with my Nan and they were just amazing! I love the idea of candy canes & sprinkles as a topping – makes them appear even more in the festive! I always love your photos and today is no exception. Just wonderful!
So delicious looking!
Made 200 of these for my sister-in-law’s wedding a couple of years ago. It’s so easy and delicious. Another bonus is the many varieties of oreo flavors so one can really go to town!
So making these for my husband. My bestie bakes like 500 cookies every Christmas but this year she is going up north to visit family! They call my husband “the cookie monster” so I guess its up to me to churn out the sweets (but not 500!)
OOH! Cannot wait to make these for my neighbors.
OOH! Cannot wait to make these for my neighbors.
Omg these look TO DIE FOR. I think I might need to make these…
These seriously sound stupid easy! Yum! I could definitely see myself giving these a whirl soon! Pinned ๐

I made these a few years ago and have since been requested to make them for all parties. Ha. They are too good! Yours look so pretty!
Question: Did you just use the cookie part of the Oreo (minus icing), or did you process the whole thing? In the picture, there doesn’t appear to be icing in the processor. When I tried to process the whole cookie, it didn’t turn out nearly that finely crushed. These taste delicious, and I’d love to learn to make them!
These are beautiful! I love all the different sprinkles you did on them, instead of just one kind. I love truffles.

I love making these! They are great for when you don’t want to eat a super sweet dessert, you can just use dark chocolate.

These look so cute and, having never made truffles before, I appreciate how easy they seem to make. Will definitely be trying these!
P.S. Did you use any special tool/technique to get that lovely drizzled effect with the white chocolate? And any idea how much that amount of oreos weighs? Oreos are really expensive where I live and I’d probably substitute a local cookie! Thanks!
Oh my god, this looks so cute & good! <3
I`m so going to make them! Thx for sharing!

These look gorgeous! Did you try putting any mint inside the ball (tehehe) itself? Totally giving them a go although I doubt they’ll turn out quite so pretty ๐
so you first take the white creamy stuff off the oreos?
Fair enough.

Great tip for the vegans Carmenโthanks for sharing!
-Emma
Leave the Oreos wholeโyou do not need to scrape out the cream. (Told you they were easy!)
-Emma
I leave the icing in. The picture is deceptive because if you touched the crushed cookies in there you’d feel they are less powder-y and more moist. From the icing.
Hope that helps!
-Emma
These look amazing, Emma! And I know they’ll taste great too. Thank you for sharing this recipe. I’ll be trying it this weekend, it’s a great idea for little X-mas presents for my coworkers! ๐

I used a fork for the drizzled chocolate. Just dip in the chocolate and then swirl over the top of the truffle.
Hmm. Not sure about the weight, I would say it’s about 2 1/2 cups of crushed cookies. The measurements do not have to precise for this type of treat though, so if you feel unsure you have enough cookies just add half the amount of cream cheese at first. Mix, and see if you can easily form balls. If the mixture is too dry, add more cream cheese.
Hope that helps!

Wow, these look delightful! My younger cousin is coming to visit me soon and I think I just found our evening activity ๐

I’m so grateful for this recipe! We’re throwing our holiday party this weekend which is doubling as a birthday party. So my kitchen time is getting swamped but I still wanted to bake a fun holiday treat. This is perfect! I wish you gals had a recipe app I could take to the store with me ๐
xoxo, andrea
These are SO super easy to make! I’ve even made them with the mint oreos and they were delish ๐ Thanks for sharing!
These look so delicious! xx
My sister made these this past weekend. OMG. They’re so yummy! I love how you used sprinkles and candies on the top of yours though. Very cute! Merry Christmas!
hi ๐ I don’t have a food processor – do you think i could do this in a blender?
Thanks ๐
I made these with the golden oreos and used white chocolate chips, with the mint oreos and chocolate chips and sprinkled with chopped up andes peppermints. and then I thought, well, what about gluten free Trader Joes Sandwich cookies? Wouldnt that work, too? What a treat for my gluten free friends!!!! Thats my next attempt. These are so good! Thank you!
Your giggle cracked me up! Can’t wait to try these. I have vanilla oreos along with all the other ingredients….I’m tempted to try it out lol
Thank you so much for posting this recipe!!! It is simple and easy to follow and the results are quite impressive. My coworkers thought I spent much more time and effort than I did…just my kind of treat ๐
Merry Christmas to some of my favorite people that I’ve never met ๐
These came out so cute. I’d love to give these a try myself. If I can find some cheap, palm-oil free oreos.
Yummy!!! Wish I had seen this before Christmas Day. Then again New Year’s Eve is approaching and they’d totally be great then too! ๐
Well I just made them and they are delicious! I skipped the peppermint part though and covered them with cocoa powder. Thank you so much for this recipe Emma, it really made it to my top go-to recipe list!
Have a great, creative and productive year you guys! xoxo
Can these be made ahead of time and stored in the freezer???
Yep! :))
My mom and I are doing cookie trays for Christmas this year.. We are wondering if these free well??
my fudge did not set up can it be fixed?Help! Please!
These look good! I although have a question, can you taste the cream cheese? Like does it taste like a cheese cake?
