I make no secrets of my love for Thai food. I always suggest it if I'm in charge of picking the restaurant for the evening—even if I'm in a city where I have NO idea where good thai food might be. Dear Yelp…
I have a few favorites, including pad Thai (duh), pad see ew (also sometimes spelled phat si io), red curry, yellow curry and sometimes fried rice if something sounds good (like pineapple fried rice in the summer!). I am by NO means an expert on Thai cuisine. I just know I like it. So I've been trying to learn to make a few of my favorite dishes at home.I have a favorite (easy) pad thai recipe. So I decided to try my hand at pad see ew. Typically pad see ew is made with broad rice noodles called kuaitiao sen yai. I had a hard time finding them (if anyone in Springfield, MO as any suggestions please let me know!) so I used flat noodles instead. They are similar to fettuccine noodles, so feel free to substitute if you can't find the correct noodles in your area too. No biggie.
I checked out a few recipes online (here, here and here). And adapted based on my own personal tastes and what ingredients I could easily find. So this really isn't traditional… but it's pretty tasty.Easy Pad See Ew, serves two.
6 oz. uncooked noodles
2 broccoli crowns, cut into bite size pieces
3-4 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon sesame oil
2 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons oyster sauce
1 teaspoon packed brown sugar
2 teaspoons rice vinegar
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds
1 tablespoon chopped cilantro
Begin cooking the noodles. Follow the directions, they may vary slightly depending on what kind of noodle you are using.
While those continue to cook heat the sesame oil in a large pan or wok. Cook the garlic and broccoli until softened. I added a couple spoonfuls of the pasta water to my pan to help the broccoli cook a little more. The broccoli should turn bright green. In a small bowl whisk together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar and red pepper flakes if using. Once the noodles are done cooking drain them and add them to the broccoli and garlic. Pour the sauce over everything and cook over medium heat until most of the moisture has absorbed into the food.Top with sesame seeds and cilantro. Easy, right? Make this for dinner this week, you're gonna love it. xo. Emma

If you have time when you are in Austin Madam Mam’s or Thai Passion are the best places to get Thai food. This particular dish is amazing at Madam Mam’s, I crave it weekly.
looks delicious! I’ve never had Pad See Ew, but now I really wanna try it!
xoxo
Looks so yummy! I might go buy broccoli and noodles after work! I don’t know if you have the restaurant “Noodles and Co” in Missouri, but they have seriously delicious Pad Thai.
Yum! Thai food is my favorite too, because it’s normally gluten free! I’m sure the version with regular noodles is tasty too, though.
Seems delicious!

Thai dish that is seriously the best – kee Mao, or pad kee Mao. Try it if you find a restaurant that has it on the menu. The first time I went to a Thai restaurant, I chose it having no clue. A friend who loved Thai tried a bite of mine and declared it the best Thai dish she’d ever had.
Beautiful photos! And I cannot wait to try this! The easier, the better…especially for microwave-lovers like me! 😉
Looks so delicious 🙂 yum <3
It looks so yummy !! Thanks for the recipe ! Merci !
I’ve never looked for those specific noodles, but I get all my Asian specialty items at Seoul Market on Campbell. It’s near Breadsmith. They have hundreds of kinds of noodles, the best kimchi ever, and it’s the only place I’ve ever found Thai basil in Springfield.
When i saw ew i thought it was going to be a post slating someone- surprised is the word when i saw delicious noodles!

Thai food is one of my favourites, too! Unfortunately we haven´t here on the landscape in Bavaria any Thai restaurant. Of this cause I´m always looking for good recipes, that I can cook Thai food by my own. Of this cause I thank you so much, I will try this 🙂

I posted this to your Instagram already, but *my* suggestion is “Asian Market” next to Pineapple Whip/Wal-Mart neighborhood market on Glenstone. I feel like it’s a bit more overlooked than Seoul Market on Campbell (next to the Mitsubishi lot). Both have different things and both are fascinating places to go.
Also, the Asian market on Sunshine (next to the best Korean restaurant in town–Golden Korean, between Campbell and Kansas) is pretty awesome. They have a lot of Chinese and Thai items. They even have bonsai trees and bamboo plants sometimes!
This is one of my fav Thai dishes! Thanks for posting this 🙂

Mmmm! I’m the same way with Thai food. I like that this is made out of ingredients that I always have on hand, except for the oyster sauce, but I should have that in my pantry anyhow. Love the mason jar water glass, too.
