I am overjoyed to be able to share another room from my project house (future Airbnb) with you today! After months of work, it’s really starting to come together!
Today, we’re partnering with Wayfair, a shopping site that as you know we’ve loved and shopped at for years. It’s a big site, with options for every style—truly. When I started this home, I made a mood board that I have stuck to very closely (maybe I’ll share it in another post soon?). I wanted to branch out and try a new style, not just replicate my personal home. So I made a new mood board and I accessed a completely different side of my taste, and it has been SO MUCH FUN. I am totally in love with how this room turned out and the quality of each individual piece.
Before we jump in, let’s take a walk down memory lane …
On closing day, the dining room looked like this.
Two things to note for this tour: 1. This is a small space that opens to another room (the living room). When we tour the living room, you’ll be able to see more of how the two rooms connect. But for now the living room is not complete, so it could not be included in these photos. 2. The doorway to the kitchen (you can see it above to the left) is currently covered in plastic because the entire kitchen floor is ripped out! I share these two notes so that if you are curious why we are sharing only certain angles here, now you know. These are the only good angles—haha! But don’t worry, in a few more weeks, we’ll be able to start sharing more pulled back views as well.
Anyway, we made some major cosmetic changes to this little space that added a lot of charm. For more “before” photos, click here.
First let’s talk about this light fixture! I have had my eye on this piece for a while. It’s bigger than I imagined it would be, and makes the space feel so COOL. I really love it. Since I embraced more farmhouse vibes in this home (my husband encouraged me to go “full Nashville” with the style), it was important to me to still retain a modern edge. I think this light really delivers.
The wallpaper is a moroccan wallpaper mural designed by Sarah Sherman Samuel. It’s so stunning in person. We just did the one accent wall in this space. I love how it adds a lot of texture, while still staying neutral and bright. She is so talented! I’m so obsessed with this marble pattern as well.
By the way, if you live in the Nashville area, I highly recommend Meryl and David for wallpaper install. They are the sweetest and they do all my wallpaper (which has been a lot this past year—haha!).
I love these chairs! They are so sturdy and beautiful. I like that they have an arm, but still fit so nicely at a kitchen table. You’d have to sit at them to truly understand, but they’re the nicest dining room chairs I’ve ever owned.
The farmhouse table is super sturdy as well. Great quality. Since we built a white farmhouse style table for the breakfast nook, I decided to go with a wood finish here. It is extendable, and this is the smallest it can be.
The rug is a simple jute rug. It’s perfect for this space and I know it can withstand some wear and tear. When it comes to purchasing rugs, I have learned a lot about how to choose rugs that will really last. Surprisingly, dining rooms are not as heavy traffic as other rooms (in my experience, the living room rugs are the main ones that really take a beating). The big issue with dining rooms are occasional spills and messes. So a rug with either a darker tone or pattern is more forgiving.
I’m proud that this space seems to really lean on “autumn vibes,” but I still think it will be easy to mix it up each season.
(white vase, decanter, footed bowl)
I’ve written before about my love for fake plants. And you all know I love real plants as well (a LOT), but there is a strong case for certain faux plants. For example, these fiddle leaf fig trees. Real ones are expensive and I’ve killed them repeatedly. This little cutie you see here in the corner will never ever … ever die.
For me, a mix of real and faux is ideal. I already do have a few real plants in this home (and I’ll add more). But I also want to be smart about it and only add low-maintenence plants that are easy to care for.
We chose to keep going with the black theme from the fixtures and tie it into some smaller pieces in the space, like this beautiful flatware.
I’ve had THE BEST time working on this space so far! Let me know if you have any questions at all. I have several more rooms in the works that I’ll be sharing over the next few months.
xoxo! Elsie

Awe!! Thank you so much!!!
Where are those plates from? I love them and am looking for ones just like those for my registry!
They’re from CB2.
Such a different, funky, yet functional light fixture! I can see it transcending so many styles. It kind of gives me like a Mad Men Don Draper office vibe too. Could you possibly share a photo at dusk/night when it’s on? I’m so curious to see how it casts light.
Can I ask how high your ceilings are here?? I was thinking about that light fixture for my dinning room, but not sure if it’s too big for 8 foot ceilings?? Thanks!
Our ceilings are 9 feet.
Love this – it’s very different from your normal style but you’ve executed it beautifully. And also… where is your fantastic cord jumper from? (Also also, do you envision your personal style changing once you have Nova? I find that I still want to wear skirts, but it’s just not practical a lot of the time with kids. And clogs! Wore clogs to the playground once, and never again! I spent the whole time picking out mulch, haha).
It’s from Forever 21.
I’m not sure if my style will change. I am definitely already wearing less shorter things than I did a few years ago (or tights) and I feel pretty comfortable in my own style now. We’ll see, I guess!!!
I am totally loving the look of this new house. There is a very New England cozy style vibe to this place and I bet you will have folks lined up waiting to stay here even before you officially open! I can’t wait to see the final product. 🙂
Thank you! I’m having so much fun exploring another style!! xx
Wowza! So beautiful! I love the Nashville vibe for sure – and that wallpaper is EVERYTHING! I definitely thought the Fig was real. I love a good pop ‘o’ green in a room, and it’s even better when I can’t kill it. Thank you for sharing! Beautiful work!

Very cute room. Simple yet it actually makes a nice statement. I’m very curious about the table. How did you make it extend-able? Is it built-in or do you have another piece hiding somewhere? We are getting ready to build a farmhouse table and this intrigues me.
It has a leaf that goes in the center of the table if you pull the two ends apart. xx
I love the dining room light however it feels far too large for the space.
Really? I love it!
I love how different this is from your home! It really shows the diversity of your talents in decorating. I’ve really enjoyed seeing this place transform. 🙂
Thank you Laura!!!
Ahhh Elise I’m totally in love with this room! It looks GREAT.

Ahh, loving the style of this room! I’m obsessed with those walls. <3 All the elements here are beautiful, and I don't normally enjoy the look of fake plants but yours add a nice touch for the corner. Stunning room makeover!
Have a good week!

I’d love to stay there for a holiday! 🙂
This is so beautiful! I can’t tell from the pics, but from some angles the lights look the same green as you used in the bathroom? It’s probably just black but oh my goodness if it was green that would just be too much ?
ps. I LOVE the renter friendly home decor posts you do, as a student with no hope of breaking into an awful housing market I really appreciate the more small scale and temporary projects! 🙂
Very nice dinning room, thinking to copy you. I hope you don’t mind
Whoa! Loving that wallpaper. Such fun seeing you design with a different style (but still very Elsie). It showcases how talented you are. Would love it if you’d share your mood boards in another post. 🙂
Thank you!!! I’ll share them soon!!
I’m in lvoe with that wallpaper and the rug, everything looks wonderful!

Very cute space! I’d love to see a post from you about rugs. You’d mentioned your trial and error in finding rugs that last. I have two pets in my home and am always researching which material will hold up to traffic and vacuum well with pet hair. Would love to hear your insight!
This space is amazing! I’m obsessed!

Love it! Especially that light fixture, but the whole room is so cozy and homey-feeling. Maybe it’s just the chill in the weather we’re getting for the first time this season, but I just want to hole up and be with family in a space that warm and happy!
Also, this is kind of random, but I love LOVE that you added the author names back up at the top. I do like the new blog look, but I missed seeing who was writing each article. Kind of feels like checking in with my peeps, haha! I would like to click on “older posts” and not get taken back up to the top, but that’s not to big a deal– I either re-scan fave new posts or just go to archives if I need to.
Anyhow, can’t wait to see what’s to come! Happy Fall, y’all! <3
Nice! What’s the source on the curtains?
Beautiful. Love the centerpiece and I definitely agree with a darker rug to hide stains.
Wow, I love that wallpaper pattern! It adds a nice modern vibe to the room.
Love this room! Totally beautiful, can’t wait to see how it’s “accessorized” differently from season to season, lol. Would love to stay here!
What is the shade of nail polish you’re wearing in the pictures? I need to add it to my nail polish stash! lol
Inspiring as always x
thanks you for
Where is the bar cart from please and thank you!
West Elm 🙂
Hey Elsie! I really would love to buy those chairs! Could you tell me if they have a contoured seat?
Love the simplicity of this room , you really know how to renovate! It looks amazing, I absolutely love the wallpaper. I am just about to finish my first home renovation, our bathroom and although it has taken so long, it has been so rewarding and I can’t wait for visitors to come round to see it!

I’m sure you get asked this all the time, but when will it be listed on airbnb? I’ll be coming to Nashville next month and would love to stay a few days. You’ve done an incredible job!!
We’ll announce it as soon as it’s available, but probably not until mid spring! ????
Wow! This can be one particular of the most useful blogs We’love ever arrive across on this subject. Actually Excellent. I am also a specialist in this topic therefore I can understand your effort.
Where did you get the curtains? 🙂
