Elsie’s New Adventure

Studio dreamsHey, friends! I have been thinking for months how I wanted to share this news with you, but I still just don’t have the words. It’s actually been weighing on me for what feels like a lifetime, and recently I started taking real steps to make it happen.

After almost ten years of blogging, I’ve started to feel my heart pulling me in another direction. I mean, I feel so blessed to be able to do this for a living. Sincerely, I do. But I’m not sure it’s ever something I could call a passion, you know? I’ve talked before about how my husband is a musician, but I don’t think I’ve ever shared with you how I really wanted to be a musician too.

Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve always dreamed of being a songwriter. But I was told many times that I just didn’t have the talent. My own dad even told me I couldn’t do it. Was I ever in band or choir? No. Did I ever really learn any instruments? No. But music isn’t about technical ability. It’s about your heart.

Recently Jeremy and I were watching The Voice, and it inspired me to rethink everything. It’s kind of like when you watch the Olympics and the gymnasts are doing all the cool flips, and you’re like, I COULD DO THAT. Then, I started thinking back to Kim K’s hit single again, and I knew I needed to dive in head first.

Studio dreams I have never even done karaoke, and I hate being in front of crowds. But I feel like if you really, really, really want something, you just have to go out there and take it, right? I mean, no one is going to do this for me.

So today I’m happy to announce that Jeremy and I will be releasing an album together. So I won’t have as much time to be on the blog for the coming months (Sorry #priorities), and we’ll have to reasess my role here after the launch. But I’m sooo excited to share the finished album with you!!!

Studio dreams Thank you for supporting me through anything and EVERYTHING. I love you guys so much.

Elsie's solo project!ps. My dad never said that. He actually lied to me and told me I COULD be a musician. :)) Love you, Dad.

  • OH MY GOD I was so convinced. You guys get me every year! gahhh I was really starting to worry you weren’t blogging anymore…thank goodness it’s April 1st!!!

  • I have been SO GOOD at spotting the April Fools announcements today and not being fooled.

BUT NOT THIS ONE. YOU GOT ME GRRRRRRRRR

I must have been off my game!!!!

  • That was a roller coaster for me lol. Glad you’re staying 🙂

  • Lolz! My favorite April Fool’s on here will forever be that documentary you posted last year. I went through and re-watched it today for a laugh. Good job, guys!

  • Haha! You almost got me too. I was like, seriously?! It made absolutely no sense to me. The part about quitting the blog I could believe but not the part about not feeling passionate about what you do. You are definitely a creative type. Anyways, thanks for cheering me up, lol. Now I have to go and play a trick on someone myself, he he. Thanks for the inspiration! 🙂

  • HAAAAAAAA! Man, I’ve been onto your April Fools pranks these past few years, but today’s totally caught me off guard! Throughout the whole post, I was partly thinking “YGG – follow your dreams, Elsie!” and partly thinking “oh. um. but. really?”

Well-played! And for what it’s worth, you do you, girl – karaoke and all! 😉

  • You’re amazing, it’s sooo good. Can we ear it, please ?
May I help you with the French version ?

Wishing you an amazing week-end – will you be on stage ?

  • Haha I came on the blog just to see your April Fool’s joke. Still think the A Beautiful Mess movie was the best.

  • Oh no! I was so worried we wouldn’t get to see the rest of your house!!! 🙂

  • NOOOOOOOO! ya estaba llorando creo!! jaja Gracias a Dios que no va a cambiar nada por aquí! 😀 😀

  • hahaha you totally got me 😀 awesome april fool’s.
also, gotta love Jeremy’s reflection in the mirror in that last pic 😀 😀

  • This was slightly confusing after you admitted on Snapchat you were not good at singing the other day, but I still fell for it… ??? It still would’ve been amazing to see you chase your [fake] dreams though!

Glad to hear you’ll still be around. ?

  • You guys always get me with your April fools posts! But I always have this weird feeling when I’m reading them (like the one where you were going to give up your dogs) that something is terribly wrong… Just never quite make the jump to identifying it as April fools until I reach the end! Haha but well done!

  • AH! I love how not obvious this was. I totally wouldn’t put it past you to be so adventurous and just dive in, which I think is what made me totally not realize it was an April Fools joke. GOOD ONE.

    Much Love!
    -Stephanie Eva

  • I was REALLY hoping there was a video of you singing involved in this prank! 🙂

  • HAHA I was waiting to see what you guys would come up with this year although nothing beats last years’ video. I still laugh when I think about “We spent $10,000 on SUCCULENTS?? Son of a *BEEP*!!”

  • You’d think after so many years that I’d stop falling for these. But, nope! You got me.

  • Oh my! This is hilarious!! Even more so because my sisters and I chose a similar theme for our April Fools prank on our blog: we said we were going to start a punk rock band (totally out of our usual character 😉 called Triple Trouble!! Man, that’s just too funny!

    xo,
    -Charlotte

  • I was onto you straight away, but then I’m in the UK so by now I’ve learned not to trust anybody(thank God for the time difference! It would of been different if of read this at 6am uk time)

  • When I saw the microphone picture I thought you were going to announce a podcast! I got so excited!

  • Confession: I was hook, line and sinker for last year’s prank up until the “we’ve spent our entire budget on succulents” bit and even then I was only partially aware that it may have been fake. I totally felt like a fool. So this year I came to the blog prepared! Hahahaha great job, you are expert pranksters!

  • Wow, good one! I totally forgot it was April 1st. You guys always get me!! 😉

  • Also, while reading I was thinking ‘Oh G-d! I hope she still post about the house, I haven’t seen it all!!’

  • Funny! But SERIOUSLY, let’s talk more about Jeremy’s music. It’s really, really good. I watched your Chile video and the music really makes it special. Can you point us in the direction to more of his music? And do you guys collab in real life, like have you tried singing?

  • I’ve followed you since you were designing scrapbooking supplies & selling your cute paintings. It hurt my heart when you said this wasn’t your passion! I admit I did want to hear you sing, though 🙂

  • Lol! Hi, I’m a long time reader, but have never commented before. I knew this had to be a joke when you said your dad told you you couldn’t be a songwriter/musician. Now I don’t know your dad…I don’t even know you, but the way you and your sister describe him, I can’t imagine he’s ever not supported your dreams. You’re very lucky to have a supportive family. Happy 1st day of April!

  • Haha- Thank you Brooke.
It makes me happy that your thoughts went straight to the home tours.

Trust me, I’ve put in WAY too much not to share them now!!

    -Elsie

  • Hey Erin!
Search “VIOLENTS” on Spotify or Apple Music and you can hear his four recent EPs. He is currently recording a full length and it’s GORGEOUS.

No, I don’t do any kind of music. I only “collab” with him by taking photos for his EPs and helping him decorate his studio. For me, music will ALWAYS be something that I enjoy strictly as a fan. But I LOVE being his fan.

    xx- Elsie

  • Ha ha ha, I look forward to these every year! Thanks for keeping it interesting and fun!

  • You guys suck! Haha, last year I didn’t fall for it but you totally got me this time! AH! 😛

  • Son of a…
On the one hand, my head was all, “You go get it, Elsie!” and on the other was heart was all, “Whomp whomp. Now what will I do with my mini work breaks throughout the day?!”
    Whew.

  • OMG I totally fell for this!! I was like, I love the other ladies, too, but Elsie don’t go!!! You guys are the queens of April Fools jokes!

  • Ooohhhh good gaaawwwwd — good one! As I was reading I was torn thinking at first “Oh no, less of Elsie on the blog?” and “Yes, follow your dreams”…then I’m like “Huh? Your dad said that (though honesty is the best policy) and Kim K?” Then the epic picture of you two!! HAHAHAHA! Eyes a bit tearing…at the same time laughing!!! I love it!! Thanks for a great read turned April Fools!

  • I fell for it – hook, line and sinker! And I even knew that you guys would do an April Fool’s post (I’ll never forget how mad & then relieved I was about you giving away your dogs – LOL)

Good one. And glad it’s just a joke 🙂

  • When I saw that picture of a microphone, I thought you were announcing that you were starting a podcast and I got SO EXCITED

  • I had to skip to the end to make sure this was an april fool’s joke before I could read anything further!!! SO thankful for your true talent… crafting. You inspire me daily (although I’m sure your voice could inspire some as well 😉 )

  • hook, line, sinker. totally fell for it! not even the comment from your dad or the mention of kim k. made me read this as anything less then a serious announcement. GREAT april fool’s joke.

  • You TOTALLY got me… even though I just watched your Snapchat the other day when you said you didn’t really have a good singing voice. I was really getting kinda worried for you. So glad that you’re sticking with the blog! 🙂

  • Literally the ONLY April Fools joke I have fallen for! Aaah! (So glad you’re not leaving!)

  • I’m so happy I didn’t fall for it this time!!!! I believe it every year, this time I knew it was just too ridiculous. Good one guys good one.

  • elsie!!! I always wait for your April’s fool post! Another great idea! (and I need to brag that this year you didn’t get me! 🙂 hahaha!)

  • You got me for a second there. April 1st is bringing me back to last year and the fake documentary!
    Blog: Sundaysaresunny.com

  • I totally bought it! Altho I am reading this the 3rd of april hehe. But it would have been really fun hearing you sing! 🙂

  • I read this 2 days late and totally believed it, because my April fools radar was down ???

  • ooooh no . I would definitely buy your album .!!
please don’t let it be just a joke :DDD

  • OMGosh! You really had me there!!! And I was so excited that I was going to be able to tell you how after many years of marriage to a musician that my husband finally asked me to sing in a new group he was forming and how there are four of us – good friends – in the group and we are called The Dust Bunnies! No foolin’!
