Hi there! It's time for another round of Fashion Mixology (view round 1 here). The concept is simply this… We take 8 pieces of clothing and make 8 different looks with those pieces. Shoes and accessories don't count as pieces, only dresses, pants and tops! The goal of this feature is to inspire confidence and ideas to stretch your wardrobe farther.
This round, we worked with American Apparel! We chose a white lace dress, peachy chiffon button-up, a skirt and chiffon tank from AA along with four pieces from our own closet. Here are eight outfits from eight pieces of clothing… enjoy!
Layering is a great way to strech a wardrobe. In this look we layered a lace dress under a pleated vintage skirt!
Long necklaces are one of Emma's favorite accessories! In this look she used them to add detail to her pretty look.
Did you know you can wear a midi or maxi length skirt as a dress? Just add a belt. This works great with skirts that have stretchy waist bands!
If you've wondered how to wear chiffon, we love layering it over dresses, tank tops and bralettes. The layered look that Emma is wearing here is super cute with high waisted pants!
Throwing a schoolboy blazer on over a cute belted dress is the perfect way to create a put together look with minimal pieces!
Tie an oversized top over a dress to create a fitted waist! I love this look… so effortless!
Don't be afraid to untuck your blouse with a layered outfit. Messy details can make a look that much more interesting!
Add a big belt to your layered look and no one will suspect you're wearing a dress under your skirt!
Hope you're feeling inspired to mix up your wardrobe! XO, Elsie

This. Is. Amazing! I am always trying to find different ways to wear the clothes I have instead of going out & buying a whole new outfit 🙂 LOVE this!
This is great. I love the look of a loosely tied shirt. A lot of girls will buy one from Topshop or New Look that’s cut to just tie up and not be worn any other way, but I like the unravelledness of using an actual shirt to add texture & visual interest.
I love these posts, they are super inspiring!
You should do a post where someone shares a vintage piece they scored and aren’t sure how to style it. Like your three ways to wear it, but with common found vintage pieces (for those of us who are terrible at sytling).
Thanks for another super awesome post.

Great mixing ladies! I love how each and every style looks completely different. Definitely a successful mix up. I’m taking notes as I try to pack for a 20-day trip!
Awesome!!! Where are the shoes in the last picture from?
I love seeing these, they inspire me to give my closet another look. I think I’ll have to attempt this so I can squeeze more work outfits out of my closet!
Absolute love outfits 3, 5 & 7. That white lace dress is adorable.
Elizabeth, the shoes in the last photo are vintage from the 70s.
this is so lovely. I really like seeing the different looks. I wish that I could try this with my clothes, but for the most part I only wear jeans and a t-shirt.
That blue skirt is amazing. I love it! And you’re right, layering really does stretch a wardrobe. I’m still waiting to pick up that clutch. Waiting anxiouslyyyyy.
Love them all, but especially love looks one and two!
Marisa, we have a photo shoot scheduled next week where we’ll be shooting that clutch (& tons of other autumn things) so it’s coming SOON!
Love these looks!! Numbers 5 and 6 are my favorite. I really really adore these Mixology posts, I can’t wait for more! They’re so inspiring! xo

I love wearing blazers over dresses. Love these looks!
These are such creative pairings! I’m totally looking into utilizing dresses as shirts now, thanks ladies!
Loving this new feature, Elsie and Emma! So helpful for inspiration. Stretching a wardrobe = so important for a student! xo
This is a really good idea, it’s great to encourage people to be more experimental. I’ve been trying to do this a lot more recently – namely because I just moved to France with only one suitcase ! Necessity is the mother of invention after all 🙂
5 & 6 are my favorites! & wearing a skirt as a dress is ingenious!! I love this series… so many ideas!
No. 8 is very sweet.

Love these looks! The way you repurpose dresses and skirts to give them double the life!
I can’t decide whether outfit 2, 7, or 8 is my favorite! I’m really liking this feature–it’s nice to be reminded that I really might have something to wear right in my closet!
Ohhh, I am loving number 5! This is the greatest feature, I love getting ideas for how to extend my closet.

Oh, goodness — Emma is WAY too adorable! I love these looks and I’m feeling so inspired! 🙂
I think that all of the outfits are great but 5 and 6 are my favies! This is an awesome feature and I always look forward to seeing more.
I remember one day I wrapped my flamenco training skirt over my body and fixed it with a safety pin. Then I had waves all around but not too much!
the elastic was a little too loose so, hum, I was close to find myself half-naked, but it kinda worked!
I love all these inspirations girls, you are just truly amazing and inspiring.
xo
I love when inspiration hits at the perfect moment.. I am going to a wedding this weekend and wanted something stylish and amazing to wear. I have a floor length purple and black plaid skirt I can turn into a dress.. You’ve saved me!!!
LOOK EIGHT!!!! WANT IT! Very Ms. Stefani…
I think I may own the twin of that blue skirt! I think it’s amazing when you thrift/buy a vintage item and then see someone else wearing the exact same thing/something similar. It’s also interesting to think about how many copies of that same item are floating around the thrift/vintage world.
Great outfits! I always love these mixology posts, they’re so inspiring.
Outfit 7 and 8 are my favorites 🙂
Heart Of The Home
Love these posts! I get so overwhelmed at thrift shops, since pieces are scattered everywhere, its really nice to get a visual of all you can do with even a simple piece! Thank you, love it!

I like eight! Really Pretty!
i just love this “collection”. That’s really how it feels with all the ways that you remixed the 8 pieces. I would love to be able to remix all the things in my closet that way. I can’t wait to try this with some of the things in my closet. Great job!
XOXO
Looks great! Thanks for sharing;)
So many amazing styles here! I love no. 6 most! The lace dress is gorgeous!

I love these wardrobe tips! Especially the wearing a skirt as a dress and over a dress.

I’m surprised you would want to work with American Apparel. Have you read about their latest plus-size model contest, in which they refused to recognize the rightful winner? (Not to mention the fact that the company is run by a guy who has been sued multiple times for sexual assault):
