Mallory created this extra cozy faux fur and flannel blanket for Emma's living room. We're in love with the result. It's super warm and cozy. Here's how you can make your own:
To make this blanket we got two yards of white faux fur that was 58” wide. The backing we chose is buffalo check flannel, because it’s extra warm and cozy. But it was only 44” wide, so we doubled the yardage to 4. Make sure you hold the fur up on top of the backing to make sure it won’t show through. When you get home re-cut the top and bottom edges straight, because fabric store cutters aren’t always perfectionists. The fur seems a little daunting to cut and sew, but there are a few tips to keep the mess to a minimum.
First, you want to trim the fur off the outside 1/2” all the way around to make your seam allowance less bulky and much easier to sew. Second, keep a spray bottle of water or non-toxic cleaner nearby to spray the fur you cut off. This will keep the fur from flying around the room when you clean it up. To make the back piece the same width as the fur I cut off two yards of the flannel and seamed the two halves down the middle. Then I trimmed it to the size of the fur, keeping the seam centered. With the fuzzy side of the fur and the good side of the seamed back facing each other, I sewed the two pieces together all the way around leaving an 8” gap on one side. Trim the corners of the seam allowance, getting close to the stitching without cutting into it. Then reach inside the gap and turn the blanket right side out. Make sure the corners are pushed all the way out, then hand sew the hole closed by hand.We hope you have a cozy day! xoxo.

One of my favorite blankets is faux fur but I’ve never thought about actually making one. It doesn’t seem too difficult for a sewing beginner like me! Thanks for the idea!
How did you do that? AWESOME

NOT in any relation to your adorable blanket, just a random thing about fur… I saw on the news that sometimes faux fur is actually real fur because it’s cheaper to catch and kill raccoons and use their fur than to make a cheap material. So depressing. Again, not to be one of THOSE comments as that is clearly not raccoon fur neither polar bear fur or Santa Clause’s beard. Just wanted to share some sad news 🙁
This blanket looks so nice and cozy! 🙂
That would be a cozy addition to any home.

This looks like the perfect cosy blanket for film nights. Hopefully I won’t get too much popcorn stuck to it!

What a great idea for a Christmas gift. I can’t wait to make one of these for my own living room and possibly a few friends! I am trying to do a DIY Christmas this year.
Cute idea!
This would be super sweet with some of that ultra soft or patterned fun fur the fabric stores tend to get (and go on sale!) in the deep winter. Good to curl up under and read a good book!

Each addition to Emma’s house is lovely! I’m a huge fan of plaid print, and something about it just reminds me of coziness and winter warmth. I definitely want to try out making this for December!

So adorable. I would have never thought to do that.
How cozy and perfect! I am all about comfy throws for my living room. Much like house cardigans one never realizes how important they are until they use them then stop. Much like if you wear a hat during the winter and then forget it you miss it terribly!

Such a cozy snugly blanket. All you need is popcorn and a great movie!
The main thing I don’t like about furry things is the backing is always scratchy! This is a fab & cozy idea to snuggle up with, and super cute too 🙂
That looks so simple and cozy. I need that right now. I’m starting Les Miserables and it’s a long boo!

Cute, though this would never last in my house with my huge puppy. She loooooves to shred anything ‘fur-like’. This blanket does look super cozy though!

Looks super comfy and warm, just wanna snug under it and never come out!
yes! its like snuggling with a Siberian lumberjack all winter long.
My mom made a bunch of these when I was little and we called them fuzzies. My brothers and I loved them! They are perfect for snuggling.
This is a great idea! I saw some really cute faux fur blankets in a store recently, but I know where I can get some faux fur fabric at an outlet store!
Oh,this is looks cozy!
always inspiring me..thank for BM 🙂
Beautiful throw! Now, I want one for myself. Adore!
What a super cute sewing project for Christmas! I’m planning to make blankets for my brothers with this material I’ve got and it’s similar to faux fur in the sense that it’s very thick and kind of fluffy. So this tutorial will be very helpful 🙂
Thanks for the tutorial!
Oh gosh! The blanket is sooo cute! Thank Goodness it isn’t made from Santa’s beard! Lordy B, my kids would have expired on the very spot they was standing 😉
