We have been loving our time in our new studio space so far! It’s so fun to have a place to call our own and personalize each room to all our needs. The main office space sits just behind the living room on the front of the house, and we can see the view of the street through the large glass door pane. As nice as it is to see all the cars and people go by on the street, sometimes it can be a little distracting when you’re trying to concentrate. We decided that frosting the window would give us some privacy (but still let in light), but we wanted to do it in a fun way, of course!
Supplies:
-Glass frosting spray
-painter’s tape.
First, clean the glass with glass cleaner and wipe dry with a soft towel.
Use the painter’s tape to make your pattern (we chose stripes), and make sure the edges are firmly pressed against the glass.
Use the glass frosting spray as directed, and spray the exposed areas of glass. I did three coats of the spray, leaving adequate dry time in between, to make the frosted part as opaque as possible. You’ll probably want to open a window after each round as the fumes are pretty strong. 
Once your frost is dry, slowly peel your tape lines off and you’re done!
We’re really happy with how the door turned out! It is definitely less distracting when someone passes by, but we can still see outside, and it lets in lots of light as well. The stripe pattern is a perfect balance as well—it’s definitely eye-catching, but because it’s done in frost instead of a color, it’s more of a subtle overall effect. This could really be done on any glass surface in a house, and it’s removable with paint thinner as well. It’s a win-win! xo. Laura

It looks so great! I love the creative pattern. I’ve been looking for a way to make our front door, as well as several other large windows in the house, a little more private. Do you know if this will work in areas that get a lot of moisture, like a bathroom?

I think spray on frosted glass might possibly be one of the best diy products invented!! I’ve tried using it on old jars with cutout templates to make frosted candle holders as cheap xmas decor while I was at uni… It didnt turn out too well as I was too impatient in taking the templates off before it had dried enough. Ah well!

Great idea! Might give this a try on our kitchen window. Right now the view is lovely, but our neighbour starring at us (no kidding) when we cook, that’s rather annoying 😉

This is such a cute idea! If we weren’t renting I would do this on my husband’s office window! Even though it’s removable with paint thinner, this kind of thing always worries me if it’s on something I don’t own. Your door turned out awesome!

I don’t think this spray is food-safe, so I wouldn’t use it on dishes unless they will be purely decorative. You might want to look into glass etching if you want this look on food items 🙂

Oh wow, great idea! How cute would it be to use contact paper for a bunch of small hearts, then frost the window around them, peel the contact paper off, and then have all of these little hearts to peek through?! I’m doing this someday! Maybe even a bathroom window!

This is a great creative project! For some reason a Chevron pattern as another interesting pattern to use came immediately to mind. Thank you for the DIY photos & narrative instruction. I have been trying to figure out a way to subtly “shade” a front door mullion and this would be perfect.

I have a yellow front door almost the exact same colour. Unfortunately I recently locked myself, resulting in my security glass window having to be smashed and replaced with a clear pane of toughened glass.
