When I was eighteen I went to India for the first time, and I’ve been dying to go back ever since. It was so beautiful and colorful! It was in India that I had my first chai tea. When I got home I started making chai at home, and then all through my twenties it was my go-to coffee shop drink (did you know I used to think I didn’t like coffee? How things have changed!). Anyway, to this day I can’t drink a chai without mentally booking a trip to India (I need to book a trip for real). It’s a very cool, transportive flavor.
Today I’m here teaming up with Almond Breeze to share a recipe for a frozen chai. It’s nice and spicy with a hint of almond—a perfect treat!
Frozen Spiced Chai, serves one.
1 cup Vanilla Almond Breeze Almondmilk
2 chai tea bags
frozen yogurt
ground nutmeg
ground cinnamon
ground ginger
cinnamon sticks (optional, for garnish)
pure vanilla extract
whipped cream
honey
Prep: The day before, freeze some Almond Breeze into ice cubes. I don’t know about you, but I think I almost always prefer almond milk to regular milk—especially in drinks. It just feels less heavy, and of course I love the added almond flavor.
An hour (or more) before making your shake, heat 1 cup Almond Breeze and let it cool in the fridge with 2 chai tea bags to infuse.
In a blender, combine 1 cup infused Almond Breeze; 4 scoops frozen yogurt; 6 Almond Breeze ice cubes; 1 pinch each ground nutmeg, cinnamon, and ginger; 1/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract; and 1 tablespoon honey. Blend to perfection!
Top with whipped cream and cinnamon. Garnish with a cinnamon stick.
Enjoy!

I love this, looks great, I’ve got everything at home to make this going to try it asap 🙂
I am a nanny for a baby whose mom and grandma are from India and the gram makes 100% homemade chai tea all the time. She grinds all the spaces by hand and everything. It’s my favorite drink EVER!
My mouth is watering for some of this! It looks absolutely delicious.

Wow – you went to India? I will be there in a month and SO cannot wait!
Yum! How long will the almond milk ice cubes keep in the freezer? I’d like to make a bunch to have on hand for frozen drinks.
Oh my goodness, this looks SO GOOD. I have to try it! (with a sub for the yogurt because I can’t have dairy)
I love the new blog theme! It’s so pretty! Although, there’s a slight issue with the comments– the “post” or “preview” buttons are cut off. 🙂

This is awesome! As a side note, I think it would be super cool if you made a post sometime about traveling through India. I’ve been fortunate enough to travel a lot but India is still on my list and I’d love to hear your experience.

Love love love Chai Tea but never had a frozen almond one. In fact don’t even know where to buy Almond milk in the UK? but will look out for it for sure.
This looks delicious! Also, it would be great as a vegan treat (I’m not vegan, but I do try to incorporate some vegan dishes into my diet!) with vegan ice cream (so delicious is really good) and using maple syrup instead of honey!

This looks YUMMYY!! Definitely trying this!!
I LOVE chai. This is such a gorgeous twist on it, I’ll be whipping these up for cosy autumn evenings indoors! Brilliant post ^_^ http://www.inkandnonsense.blogspot.co.uk
I visited India as a teenager as well, and it was an amazing experience. We were working all day, and the chair breaks were such a treat! After tasting that though, and living in Dubai where chai was also common (lots of Indian culture there), nothing in the US seems strong enough. Chai lattes are delicious, but it doesn’t hit the spot in the same way. In India it’s SPICY! And usually with Rainbow (evaporated) milk, haha. I’m experimenting with more recipes though, and usually just up the spices a lot. This iced version looks delicious!
Oh my goodness gracious! I *need* to make this. Thanks for sharing! It looks delicious!!
Love that you’ve been to India! Which part? Me and my husband are from Austin, Texas but have lived in North India for the past 10 months. I could see how you’d be attracted to the culture here! So colorful and lively. Hope you get to come back!
this looks delicious! i may need to try it sometime soon, before the weather gets too cold and all I want is warm drinks.
Just wondering, what happening to Casual friday? I haven’t seen it in a while!
xx Rebecca
PS, I have been having a hard time posting this comment. I had to make the comment box smaller in order to see post, preview email and website buttons/boxes
Oh my, I’d love to visit India one day.. This Chai looks great, really a perfect treat. I gave up “regular” milk some time a go and only use Almond milk now, so I will definitely be giving this a go.
This looks absolutely delicious! I’ll have to try it out 🙂

So unfair. Here I am looking at all these great DIY ideas and now I’m thirsty for a frozen treat. And it’s much too late for leaving for the store, so I’ll have to work extra hard in the morning to deserve it for breakfast right?
This looks DIVINE!!!!
As a breastfeeding mama I could totally get down with the chai-ness of this drink recipe!
Thanks – and CHEERS!
Your drinks are always so amazing! I’m going to try this asap!

I’ve made almond milk ice cubes before and I’d recommend using them within the month. I used California Dreams brand. I suppose how long they stay fresh could vary from brand to brand.
This looks amazing and so delicious!!
This looks delicious! I love the idea of freezing the milk as ice cubes ahead of time — you could do that for lots of frozen drinks!
Also, I love that glass! Do you mind sharing where you got them?
