I was recently inspired by Holly to try out the whole green smoothie thing. I love vegetables even though I probably don't eat them as often as I should. I also had never tried making a smoothie with greens before, so I wanted to try it out-for fun and health. Good news-green smoothies are awesome! Since this was my first encounter with the whole thing I started small with a five day challenge. If you want to join in the fun you can! The rules are simple: make a smoothie everyday for five days that includes two big handfuls of greens (spinach, kale, whatever you like!). Here are my creations.Day 1: I made a smoothie of 2 cups blueberries, 1/2 a banana, 2 big handfuls of spinach and 1 cup of water. This smoothie was delicious and I was surprised to find that I couldn't taste the spinach at all. This made a little more than a full glass so I used the extra smoothie batter to make Popsicles for my 2 year-old niece. I saw her eat two in a row one day, little did she know she was eating a little spinach too. I'm a very sneaky aunt!Day 2: I made a smoothie of 2 apples (one gala and one granny smith), 2 big handfuls of spinach, 1 cup water and 1/2 cup crushed ice. This one was much more grassy in taste. It wasn't bad, but this was my least favorite. I did like the tart taste that the granny smith apple added to it.Day 3: I made a smoothie of 1 cup raspberries, 1/3 cup coconut flakes, 2 big handfuls of spinach and 1 cup water. This was one of my favorites as I love the combination of raspberries and coconut. It was almost dessert like-it was so good!Day 4: I made a smoothie of 1 1/2 cups sliced peaches, 2 big handfuls of spinach, 1 tablespoon honey, 1/4 cup raw oats and 1 cup water. I have seen folks include oats in smoothies before and I wanted to see what it was like-it's good! This smoothie really made me feel full and the addition of a little honey was a sweet treat.Day 5: I made a smoothie of 1 cup fresh pineapple chunks, 1/2 a banana, 2 big handfuls of spinach and 2 cups water. This was probably my favorite smoothie from the whole week-the pineapple made it super refreshing!
5 Day Green Smoothie Challenge
All berries and the peaches were frozen and slightly thawed before use. I got a tip from a fellow instagrammer to put the greens on bottom before blending because it helps it blend better-that worked like a charm. And even though I had smoothies with spinach every day for 5 days it never felt boring because there are just so many combinations to try. If you decide to do this challenge leave us a comment with any new smoothie combinations you discover, or if you already have a favorite! xo. emma

Love these ideas!! Thanks for the suggestions, can’t wait to get a blender to try these.
all of those sound INCREDIBLE! i usually use LOTS of fresh ginger and citrus in my juices & green smoothies. it masks any grassy flavors.
They look amazing! I’m a big fan of homemade smoothies. I was wondering what was going to come from all of your Instagram posts! Thanks for sharing Emma!

I make a smoothie every morning for breakfast with a little frozen or greek yogurt, a few teaspoons of flax for fiber and instead of spinach I buy vita greens which is a super blend of greens, veggies, grasses, vitamins the list is huge! And they’re so great because the possibilities are endless!!! Also a magic bullet makes this easy because you make it right in the cup and off you go…
Holy cow!
These all look and sound delicious!

Mmm I LOVE green smoothies. I’ll have to try these combinations! My favourite green smoothie is this:
– vanilla almond milk
– LOTS of baby spinach
– one banana
– a few ice cubes
– hemp oil
– hemp powder
DELICIOUS. You can just taste delicious vanilla & some banana. No spinach taste at all. SO good. I totally recommend it!
Right now on my blog I’ve been doing a little “Adventures in Juicing” series with some health benefit facts on various fruits & veggies. But I feel bad for my neglected blender! Haha. I’ll have to start incorporating some of my juices with some smoothies!
I was thinking about trying a smoothie for breakfast and lunch but I haven’t started it yet… but this is a good idea.. I like the peach combo that you have!!
I did spinach smoothies for about a month for breakfast every morning. Each week I would use different types of fruit and berries. I would also add oatmeal to make it more filling, vanilla yogurt, and soy milk. I even tried one with shredded carrots that was really good. Its so healthy and you get your servings of fruits and veggies in at the same time.
I am a green smoothie junkie! I think a LOT of people probably eye a green smoothie and think it’s one of those “we promise – it’s good!” type of things but it’s SERIOUSLY SO GOOD!!! I love using spinach, cucumber and kiwi. So good and refreshing! I’m dying to try some other variations. I’ll definitely try some of yours. ๐
We have been making smoothies NON STOP at my house. We put in Spinach, blackberries, bananas, soy milk, and ice… and the occasional strawberries. they are so gooood!! Can’t wait to try a new one though! these look great!
These look yummy! I’ve been doing green smoothies every weekday for a couple months now and they make me feel so great! Spinach is good but I LOVE kale! My favorite smoothing so far has been:
3 leaves kale (spines removed)
about 1/4 cup parsley
1/2 a cucumber (peeled)
1 cup green grapes
1 Banana
I think it’s awesome how many people are doing this!
Wow, yum! You’ve given me the push I need to get my blender out…

I’ve been having these for about a week now, they give you so much energy before you start your day! Try adding a bit of parsley or cilantro, these are extremely beneficial for detoxing ๐

Man, I so wish I had a blender.
awesome! i’m totally trying this! perfect timing too, as i just started making my grocery list!
My FAVE smoothie that I drink daily; it even has more than 15 grams of fibre!:
-1 cup frozen raspberries
-3/4 skim milk
-half a banana
-1 tbsp of honey (to taste)
-2 handfuls of spinach
The skim milk just adds a whole delicious layer of richness, without adding too many calories.
At first I thought these looked totally gross, but after reading through I actually can’t wait to try!

My go to smoothie:
Unsweetened vanilla almond milk (I use the Trader Joe’s brand)
1 banana
Spinach
Ice
Cinnamon spices
i usually make kale smoothies with a frozen banana, two torn up kale leaves, milk, and a dash or two of cinnamon. yumm.
Great idea! Since I have a smoothie maker I should give this a try.
this inspired me to get a NEW blender. I love smoothies.
Love green smoothies! My favorite combination is spinach + frozen oranges, chunks of pineapples, and peaches. It’s a lot of fruit but it tastes great!

It looks very appetizing! We must it try made!
From http://www.xeanafashion.com
I am starting the JuiceMaster diet that includes vegetables in smoothies – Google Jason Vale…. It is a detox and lose at least 7lbs in 7 days diet. Although i did need to invest in a juicer and blender as all the fruit juices MUST be fresh and no preservatives etc.
Good luck with your smoothies, i think I will need more luck to only have juice and smoothies for 7 days!!!
I LOVE green smoothies, a also freeze them for my little girl and she thinks its a lollypop treat ๐

Awesome idea!! I will try these too. If you love getting more green smoothies and juices in your life, check out Kris Carr–she has is an inspiring survivor who has kept her cancer at bay for almost 10 years with amazing veggie lifestyle and just released this super fun ebook http://crazysexyjuice.com/ i have it , its packed with recipes and a ton of fun and interesting information about food and greens for our bodies. Love her! Enjoy ๐
I have been drinking the “old fashioned” Green Monster for the past couple of weeks, but after reading this I’ve decided it’s time to get more adventurous! Thanks for the great ideas.
This sounds awesome! I sometimes use avocado in my smoothies and throw in a couple of walnuts for a dose of healthy fat and omega!
I make two green smoothies every morning. One goes in my belly, and one goes in a lidded mason jar and into my husband’s briefcase. Spinach is my poison of choice! A really great trick is to never use ice; replace it with frozen fruit. You get a much brighter flavor. And my fav unexpected, tasty additions are a dash of nutmeg or some fresh mint. Yum! Thanks for sharing. xxx
Green smoothies are yum! I put kiwi in mine. You can find my recipe on my blog here! http://nowoodenspoons.blogspot.de/2012/03/green-smoothie-recipe.html
Tried this smoothie combination the other day and it was TO DIE FOR.
Mango
Pineapple
Banana
Coconut flakes
Spinach
A splash of almond milk
A dollop of greek yogurt
Definitely my best one yet!!
The color looks so cool!
It looks delicious ๐ I might try it out!

I used to make green smoothies all the time. Such a great, healthy way to start the day. I never thought to put coconut flakes in, can’t wait to try that! Thanks for the suggestion!

Thanks for sharing these wonderful combination!
Refreshing! perfect for summer thirst.

is the spinach pre cooked?
i have to try the raspberry coconut one. it sounds delicious.
Wow! Just got a Cuisinart blender like the magic bullet thing where you make smoothies in nice cups to go. I really like this idea. Thankfully my boyfriend is an organic freak like me and so this is really inspirational. I think I’ll hit up some FB buddies and see if the are into this too!
spinach + banana + strawberries (or other berries) + lecithin powder + water. the lecithin makes it taste kina creamy, and is also very healthy!
Oh, geez, how exciting!!! I’m getting started on a new diet regime tomorrow and will probably need to find a quick breakfast solution (getting ready for work and having to tend two toddlers in the morning doesn’t leave much time to eat, let alone cook a good breakfast meal). Will definitely follow and will let you know.
THANKS so much for this!!!
Just a suggestion I’ve used in the past, you may want to add some nut butter (almond butter is my favourite) to make it very tasty, add texture and more nutritional value, plus, as a breakfast, it’ll keep one more on his/her toes longer due to the energy added.
Love green smoothies! I tend to by the bolthouse brand of green smoothies from the grocery store but maybe I’ll try my hand at making them myself : )
Okay…this is the first time a “green smoothie” has actually looked appealing to me. I usually cannot get past the green grass, but greens I already eat…I think I can do that. I’m definitely going to experiment with these! Great post!
I love green goddess or green smoothie drinks, trick is to balance them with fruit to give he sweet to it. Thank or the recipes

I was doing really great last summer/fall with drinking green smoothies. i really need to get back into it ๐
I might give this a go, especially as I’m on ,my holidays at the moment. We only have a hand blender so I’m hoping they work with that.Rx

I’m sooo excited to try this! I’ve always been a fan of smoothies ๐
Hmmm looks delicious! I made a delicious smoothie too yesterday. Great challenge!
I thrive on green smoothies. You MUST try adding raw cocoa powder- most concentrated food source of antioxidants ever! Adding hemp seeds is also awesome to get a super boost of complete protein.
I have loads of green smoothie recipes on my blog: http://www.meghantelpnerblog.com + a full program I created: http://www.meghantelpner.com/product/green-smoothie-cleanse/
And a smoothie board: http://pinterest.com/meghantelpner/smoothie-lovin/
I love making smoothies like the blueberry one you did, but adding walnuts to it! The walnuts put it into over the top yummy-ness!
3 days of your smoothie is more than tempting!
Yum the raspberry one looks delicious!
Wow looks great! I’d love to try the raspberry shake.
Adding kale and/or spinach is my favorite! I learned with kale that I have to add at least 1/2 a banana to compensate the kale, otherwise you get a berry earthy smoothie- which is okay if you like that kind of thing. I also LOVE adding mint to my smoothies. I can’t wait for our basil to come up to try that too!
These are my favorites:
2 handfuls berries (blue, rasp, straw)(mixed of fresh & frozen)
1/2 banana
hand full of kale (leaves torn from stems)
unsweetened vanilla almond milk
vanilla yogurt
(sometimes i add mint)
OR
jamba juice tropical fruit mix
fresh berries
4-6 mint leaves
apple juice
yogurt
Thanks for this. My kids (3 and a half and 1 and a half) are ok with veg, but there’s no way they’d eat spinach if I put it in front of them. I’ve just made a smoothie with spinach and mixed berries and and they both lapped it up!! Thanks for this great tip!
http://edenfound.blogspot.co.uk/
i love green smoothies! i almost always use kale or romaine. i need to branch out!
This looks so yummy! ๐ I need to get on this as soon as I get a juicer!
xoxo, Jjanga

Try coconut water as the base, add a variety of greens like spinach, chard and parsley. Addasmall chunk of ginger and a half peeled lime, frozen pineapple. This is my fav variation which I drink a quart of a day!
Thank you for those recipes, I was looking for some green smoothies, but I’m definitely trying yours, what you do is always so good!
Looks all so delicous!!!!
I drink a quart of green smoothie every day, but a true Green Smoothie is only greens (leaves, not green vegetables), fruit and water. If you add other items to this mix your body cannot process the nutrients as well as it slows down absorption. I read Green Smoothie Revolution by Victoria Boutenko and she explains everything quite clearly. These are such a great addition to everyone’s lives and they really taste good!
60% fruit, 40% greens and 1-2 cups of water.
Also, pears, bananas or avocado make them more “smooth” in texture than say an apple. There is different fiber in an apple than a pear.
I love to do one ripe pear, 3-4 oz frozen banana (instead of ice) and a whole bunch of kale or spinach or swiss chard and 2 cups of ice cold water.
Sometimes I use frozen grapes and a pear with greens. I LOVE using frozen grapes for their high water content since I hate using ice in smoothies. This is a perfect substitue and super sweet!
The biggest tip I will leave with you is that you have to rotate your greens. Your body will build up a toxicity if you only use say…spinach every single day. So either use a different one each day OR use a mix of greens.
All this said, the smoothies you’ve featured here are still great! So healthy and delicious. But, for optimum health benefits limiting them just greens, fruit and water is best.
This is one of my all-time favorite smoothies. SO delicious! Not a “green” smoothie, but still packed with goodness.

THE PURPLE ONE
Makes one large (2 cup) or two small (1 cup) servings.
8 oz. unsweetened almond milk (Almond Breeze or freshly made)
3 oz. frozen strawberries
2 oz. frozen wild blueberries (Trader Joeโs, delicious!)
1/4 cup rolled oats
3 T unsweetened shredded coconut
3 Medjool dates, pitted (4 if your dates are small)
tiny pinch of salt (optional)
Process until very smooth.
Full serving is around 450 calories.
Half serving is around 225 calories.
—
Another one I love is 4 oz frozen banana, 3 soft medjool dates, 3T unsweetened coconut flakes, 8 oz. almond milk. YUM!!
NO! @anne DO NOT COOK THE SPINACH!
My sister and I did a week long cleanse early this year and drank a lot of green smoothies. We felt amazing afterwards and I noticed a huge improvement in my skin. It was so smooth and clear. I would definitely recommend doing a challenge like this!
I’ve read that adding dairy to the “green” smoothies is not good for your digestive system so I’ve only tried recipes like yours and my favorite comb is:
http://www.lipsnlocks.com
Lots of Spinach
Frozen mangos
Frozen Bananas
Frozen Pineapple
H2O
Super tropical like I am visiting Hawaii!
Great post! I always put vegetables in my smoothies — cabbage and carrots are also great additions, and carrots are naturally sweet!
I add soft silken tofu — it makes the smoothies amazingly creamy and filling and gives them protein. I also like to add a small amount of walnuts and flax seeds for the omega stuff.
For a super healthy sweetener, I throw in a small handful of dried pre-chopped dates.
It seems good,I would try if I had a blender.
raw spinach needs a bit of acid to break it down to actually absorb all of its nutrients, so some of these you might want to add a bit of citrus to if they are not in there already
Mmm, love green smoothies! Easiest way to get your daily serving of veggies.
For those that don’t have blenders, they have green smoothies at Jamba Juice now and they’re really good! ๐
My husband and I have been juicing for quite some time after we saw the inspirational doc called “Fat Sick and Nearly Dead”. You pretty much just juice (fresh) raw fruits and veggies. Every combo we’ve made has been delicious with the exception of anything with asparagus in it, which is odd since that’s our favorite green. Apparently it just doesn’t taste too good juiced, and with other fruits and veggies. Anywho, these look good but my hubby wouldn’t make them for our “juicing regimen” since there’s only one green (the spinach) in them and they still taste like dessert, LOL. If I pick out an apple and blueberries, he’ll add spinach, cucumber, celery (really good!), tomato, carrots, etc. I’ll have to sneak in a cheat and make one of these for myself one of these days!
Try it with avocado. An avocado and banana smoothie makes a delicious yogurt-like treat!
Wow! I will definetly be making a few of these in the warm days to come! ๐
http://vivikstyle.blogspot.com
I made a green smoothie yesterday with an apple, spinach, almond milk, cinnamon and agave nectar. Couldn’t taste the spinach at all.
I also really like adding parsley to green smoothies, it brightens the flavor.
I am TOO excited to try these!
Great combinations, I’ll have to add some of these to my list. I’ve been trying green smoothies for a few weeks now and I just wanted to comment on the apple smoothie. Apples are great in a smoothies but you need to add another fruit with more soluble fiber to get that nice creamy texture. For some reason apples alone just don’t do it. Thanks for more inspiration!
Not sure if this has been mentioned in earlier posts but adding a bit of fresh ginger and or lemon juice to the blender really helps tasty up greens. (Try adding beets too for extra points!)
These look delicious. I have been meaning to get back on the green smoothie train lately, can’t wait to give these a try.
I’ll need to try these! This is what I usually do:
1 apple
1 cup spinach
1 cup cucumber
2-3 stalks of celery
1 bunch of kale
1/2 lemon
All organic and makes about 2 cups. It’s really good!
I’m not seeing avocado mentioned in any posts…it makes these smoothies more…well smooth ๐ Healthy filling fat, and like the spinach you can’t really tell it is there.
I never heard about a 5 Day Green Smoothie challenge before but I really really like it! I love fruit, vegetables and smoothies in general so I’m excited to try this! ๐ Looks like 5 delicious days!
I love Kale in a green smoothie with blueberries & banana and some chia seeds ๐
I made a green smoothie today with 2 handfuls of spinach, a banana, a kiwi, and 1.5 cups of strawberries and water. It was a horrible color but it was scrumptious!
Ooh! This looks like a fun challenge! I just might try this!
Thanks for sharing. <3
I LOVE green smoothies! One that I’ve found to be really tasty is the “glow from the inside out smoothie” that I came across on the show cupcake girls. This smoothie is supposed to make you feel good inside while helping your skin glow outside. One change I like to make is to switch out regular water with a little coconut water instead. It really adds a great flavor and freshness! Here is the recipe:
1 1/2 cups water
1 head organic romaine lettuce, chopped
3-4 stalks organic celery
1/2 head of a large bunch or 3/4 of a small bunch of spinach
1 organic apple, cored and chopped
1 organic pear, cored and chopped
1 organic banana
Juice of 1/2 fresh organic lemon
1/3 bunch organic cilantro (optional; stems okay)
1/3 bunch organic parsley (optional; stems okay)
ย
Just blend it all together and enjoy!!
I LOVE this! For almost a week I drank a berry lemon smoothie. YUM.
Ice
Honey
Frozen red berries
Lemon juice
Delicious!
What blender do you use? Mine has a hard time with the frozen fruits… Actually anything somewhat solid.
I work with a bunch of health junkies and green smoothies are becoming very, very popular! I have the recipe one of my co-workers gave me but have yet to try it. In the mean time..my fav homemade smoothie is as follows:
-3/4 cups skim milk
-1 package(6oz) non-fat peach yogurt
-& 1 cup frozen blackberries
I stop the blender frequently to push down access ingredients off side of the blender. I blend until creamy.
This smoothie is about 207 calories; but, makes quite a large amount. I split mine in half and had a yummy 100 calorie breakfast and a snack for later in the day to keep me away from packaged snacks.
I work at an organic vegan cafe that specializes in smoothies, and this one is more delicious to me than any other on the menu!
1 frozen banana
1 big handful spinach or kale
10 oz. carrot juice
This is also good with half blueberries and half banana, or if you juice some mint in with the carrots.
If you always use frozen fruits, you don’t have to add water or ice along with your juice or milk! ๐
Impressive and inspiring!!!!
yumm… although these dont particulary sound like delicious recipes after i tried the pinapple one i was was convinced to start my own 5 day green smoothie challenge! thanks for sharing xoxo http://heylyss.wordpress.com
I discovered “skin-loving” smoothies that are extremely great for your skin. They are both very rich in antioxidants and hydrating. I loved the ones recommended and I decided to tweak them to my liking:
10 oz coconut water
1/2 cup blueberries
2 tsp raw cacao powder
1 1/2 scoops hemp protein
1/2 cup kale
Serve over Ice
and also try:
1/2 of a cucumber
1 pear (I am obsessed with asian pears, which are SO rich in fiber)
1 apple (I use granny smith because I love the sourness and fresh taste it adds)
1/3 cup kale or spinach
1 bunch parsley
1 lemon (be sure to remove seeds)
1 tbsp agave nectar ( I prefer it over honey, but either works)
2 cups water
Serve over ice
These smoothies are so good for you and I think they taste amazing.
I’ve been doing green smoothies for years now and love finding new combos. Thanks for your recipes.
– Love from Anchorage, AK
I just made one! Kiwi raspberry and coconut, it’s awsome!! And no spinach taste either ๐
Now I’m inspired to not only try these but to come up with one of my own. I think I could get my kids to drink these. I feel so sneaky sneaky.

thanks for the new ideas. i started reading the beauty detox solution and she has and recommends a green smoothie every morning. hers has more green in it, but i love all the new combinations you’ve given here! thanks!
Check out this Green Smoothie Blog.

This morning my husband made a delicious smoothie for me. 1/2 cantaloupe and 1 red pepper with stem removed. So simple and delicious! PACKED with Vitamin C.
A few hints:
To add in protein, use plain greek yogurt!
Try unsweetened vanilla almond milk to sneak in some calcium!
Yum! Thanks for sharing these. I’m way into making smoothies, and just recently started adding spinach. This post was great for getting some more ideas of what to put in them. Thanks!
I’m going to try your smoothies. They sound great! I’ve just recently add a green smoothie to my rotation. I usually don’t want a big meal at the end of the day and smoothies hit the spot. I got the recipe below from Joy the Baker and I love it!
1 heaping cup spinach
1 heaping cup kale
1/2 frozen banana (I don’t freeze mine but I add a little crushed ice instead)
2 tsp honey
1 T peanut butter
Simply wonderful! ๐
Recipe above: 1 and 1/2 cups milk too!!!
I just made the peach and oats one, surprisingly good and yes filling with the oats! Thanks for sharing!
I just read this post and decided to try right away as I was going to get my groceries right after that. So I tried 2 so far.
One is
2 hands ful of spinach
10 pieces of pineapple
1 banana
a little splash of juice (any kind, just to get it moist)
2 tablespoon of grated coconut
1 tablespoon of honey and it is just delicious and filling!!!
The other one:
2 hands ful of spinach
half a cucumber
juice of 1 lemon
1 tablespoon of honey so refreshing and served really cold, maybe even put some ice in it next time!
Thnx for sharing this!! Im of reading the other recipes in this topic!!!
I just made the first one!!! Its SO delicious!!! Im in love!!! Next time I make it, I’m going to add some lemon juice!!! And then another time I will swap out the bannanna with rasberries!!! So good!!!
I have a super healthy one that somehow tastes delicious also! I call it the “Mean Green”
Ingredients/instructions here:
http://www.candyandclothes.com/the-mean-green/
try the last one with Avocado instead of banana – awesome!
is this all you ate for five days?
Yum! I am so in for this challenge! (I have half a pineapple in my refrigerator ready to go!)
Mmm…just woke up checked the blog now I am headed to the kitchen! Have a blended day! April Mae
I do this everyday! Only, my blender holds a LARGE quantity, an I don’t have tons of time everyday, So I do large batches, split them into baggies and freeze them for the week! I get up, get a baggie out, get moving and just before I walk out the door, whiz up my smoothie ๐
I have tried 2 days of the green smoothies!! So far I made your blueberry and peach suggestions. For the peach smoothie instead of raw oats I used cottage cheese and it tasted great. I have a problem with the texture of cottage cheese, not the taste so this was a great way to camouflage the texture of that. Thanks!
5 days seems achievable and the kale in my garden is just big enough to start harvesting, im gonna give it a go! Thanx for the insperation.
I make green smoothies all the time! My go-to is two handfuls of spinach, a banana, 1/2 cup of almond milk, frozen mango, and a spoon of almond butter. Soooo yummy and filling!
one of my green smoothies
handful of spinach
1/2c pinapple
1/4c shredded carrots
1/2 banana
1c oj
ice
i was so skeptical. I tried a variation of “Day 2”, spinach, water & ice, only 1 green apple, a handful of blueberries, some honey and an egg.
Super YUM
Thanks for the idea, looking forward to trying the others
My suggestion? Buy a vita-mix. They are worth EVERY penny. My kids love it too!

I just made one of my own that is actually really good! I was a little hesitant about making this version of it but here is what I used:
– 2 handfulls of spinach
– 1 c. of chopped strawberries (About 5 whole strawberries)
– 2 tablespoon of lemon juice
– a few ice cubes
– about an 1/8th of a cup of sugar ( I was going to use a 1/2 tablespoon of honey but I couldn’t find any ๐ )
– 1/4 c. oats
It’s not a very nice color and I think that if I would have used frozen berries it would have been better. I’ll try that next though! But overall it’s very refreshing with the lemon juice; you can taste that the most out of everything. Plus the oats make is really filling (:
Thanks so much for this awesome idea!
My favorite: handful of spinach, handful of kale, banana, handful of strawberries, coconut juice (bought at Asian markets)…..yum!!!
Try coconut water as the base – don’t stop with spinach for the greens, you can put some kale with stem removed, chard, celery and lots of parsley to really boost the green quotient! Use more greens, less fruit. Coconut water will sweeten the mix and a chunk of ginger and a half lime, a few chunks of frozen pineapple will give you all the greens you need, already partially digested so your body can easily soak up all the nutrients!
We love green smoothies here! Just be careful to change up your greens every once in a while, too much spinach can actually harm you. I can’t remember details off the top of my head, but it’s like iron poisoning or something like that.
I actually work at a smoothie/deli and I’ve been really into throwing Spinach into everything I blend for myself! My favorite combination is mangos, banana, spinach, 1/4 avocado, apple juice and vanilla yogurt. In any amount really, it doesn’t matter though I usually go heavy on the banana. C:
Green smoothies are THE BOMB. I’ve been drinking them 1-2 times/ day for a few years now and still can’t get enough. The variations are endless! My current fave is avocado with hemp seeds, pear, grated ginger & vanilla. Oh, and greens, of course. Yum.
I love spinach and I’m not so big on fruit… I need a recipe where I can taste the spinach and the fruit is hidden. ๐
Wow, thanks for sharing! We started slowly running out of smoothie ideas at home. Will definitely try all of them!
My favorite from those we make at home is raspberries, banana, blueberries and strawberries with a bit of yogurt.
This post is so making me want a juicer! I love smoothies but can’t deal with the thickness of them right now. A juicer – a really nice one – would be the ultimate compromise.
Looks good! I keep a drawer full of all the frozen fruit Trader Joe sells and a drawer full of bags of green stuff they sell. Also use a banana in just about every combination I try. Cabbage and zucchini are good for not turning your berry smoothies brown.

I tried your banana/coconut combo (with the spinach, too, of course) and added some coconut for an extra ‘island flair’ and it was SOOO good! It was my third experiment, and the first one where you absolutely couldn’t taste any trace of veggies. Yum!
Little late to the party, but I came across this via Pinterest. I’ve been making green smoothies for nearly a year. and YUM. I do anything from apples to pears to frozen peaches, frozen mango, bananas, kiwi, grapes, strawberries, raspberries. And always with spinach and lately coconut water. And I’ve been adding chia seeds.
These sound great, just got a vitamix and loving the creations we can come up with. Today’s was a peach, apple, banana, strawberries, kale, with coconut water and ginger…. Who would have thought it would be so delicious!!!
I read this when you first posted it, but I just got around to making the pineapple spinach smoothie. YUM!!! I was a little skeptical at first, but now I am so sold! I am going to try the others now. Thank you!!
I recently made your Day 4 smoothie and loved it! I’m going to try Day 3 with strawberries and bananas. Thanks for the wonderful recipes! ๐
I love mine with cilantro or mint, ground flax, oatmeal, spinach, Greek yogurt, vanilla soymilk, banana, honey, and applesauce. It’s AMAZING!
I just made my first selfmade smoothie. I could taste the health!
I tried it wit 2 strawberries, 2 slices of peaches, coconut milk a half of an orange and it was delicious, I did not taste any spinach.
I find a touch of fresh ginger gives smoothies a “clean/fresh” taste. Imnnot a ginger fan either, but try it. I recommend adding pineapple to kale smoothies to mask the rather robust green taste of the kale.
Thanks for posting your recipes. These look yummy. I’m on day 5 of my own personal green smoothie challenge. This one has been my favorite so far
Peaches & Cream Pie “green” smoothie

6 oz container of greek yogurt — Trader Joe’s

I’ve been procrastenating, will be starting this tomorrow. Thanks
These re some great ideas for green smoothies. I like the sound of fresh pineapple and want to try that soon. Today I used red kale, frozen strawberries, a banana and coconut water. This is my day 1 ๐
Has anyone ever used V8 juice in their smoothie mix.
My absolute favorite blend happens to be low carb and tasty! This makes an entire pitcher:
1 scoop of super greens powder
1 scoop of any Isopure zero carb protein powder
1/2 avocado (this gives it the silky texture similar to bananas but without the sugar)
1/2 cucumber
large handful of spinach
2 tsp or to taste fresh ginger
2 tsp or to taste cinnamon
Enough water OR almond milk to surpass the ingredients.
