Hi everyone! It's Holly from Create Loves here to show you a quick and easy way to make a charming neck warmer/cowl out of those extra granny squares you have hanging around, or by making just 8 new ones!
Here's what you need: worsted weight yarn in any color you fancy, 5mm crochet hook, yarn needle, scissors.
Step 1: Crochet EIGHT granny squares. Mine measured about 6" x 6" each. You can find a great tutorial for granny squares here if you haven't made them before.
Step 2: Lay them out in 2 rows of 4 squares, in a pattern that you like.
Step 3: Take the bottom left square and flip it vertically to lay face to face with the square above it. Now simply hand sew the two together along the one edge with yarn in a matching color and a yarn needle.
Repeat the step with each bottom square in your layout, so that you have 4 sets of 2 squares sewn together.
Step 4: Using the same technique, flip the first set of 2 squares horizontally (like turning the page of a book) to face the next set. Sew along the left edge. Repeat 4 times until all 8 squares are attached.
Step 5. Sew the two ends of your "scarf" together to make a round cowl. Turn inside out.
There's your new neckwarmer! You can make one out of one solid color, or use as many colors as you like! I think this would be super nice underneath your winter jacket, or with a tee shirt & cardi in the springtime for extra coziness. Enjoy! ๐
Happy Birthday RVA! XO. holly

omg thank you so much for this project! my baby blanket is made of granny squares and i have been looking for a way to bring it back to life!!! i am so excited to do this ๐
I wish that you’d give credit to those first three photographs you have posted here. “Weheartit.com” is not the proper credit – that’s just an image sharing site, not the actual artist.
If some photographs you took were up on another site without your name credited to it, wouldn’t that kinda bother you? It would me.
Just saying. Thanks.
