Today, I’m sharing a before and after tour of the dining room from my Harry Potter-inspired house. Here are the living room and kitchen tours. I love this dining room!
Exciting news—this Harry Potter-inspired house is available to rent if you’re looking to vacation in Florida anytime soon. Here are the listings: AirBnb and HomeAway.
As you can see, the big changes in this space included the flooring (same as the entire first floor of this home, so the spaces flow together), painting the walls white, and swapping out the light fixture. I decided to get a light fixture that felt more like a chandelier made of candles. I was trying to find something that mixed the modern feeling I was going for with something that could maybe be found in the great hall at Hogwarts. Ha.
And since this is a five-bedroom home, it’s entirely possible there will be large groups staying here. So I wanted to get as big of a dining table as I could without it feeling impossible to move around in the space (as you have to exit out those back doors to get to the pool).
Simple, modern, but hopefully has some magical vibes too.
I added a collection of hanging bird cages with (faux) owls in one corner. I call it the Owlery. Ha! I also found this really fun tapestry that made me think of Professor Trelawney. The rug I choose is for both indoor and outdoor as I have a feeling wet feet from the pool area may walk across it from time to time. And I don’t know if you can really see it all that well, but we added a few board games and card games to the side table storage for groups to enjoy.
And since that back door leads to the pool area I figured I might as well show you that space here too.
We actually have more outdoor furniture being made but it wasn’t done in time for these photos (hopefully I can get some added to the listing photos eventually as the new furniture is, well, PINK, so that’s exciting). There is plenty of space to hang out, lounge, chill in the pool, chill in the hot tub, and with the screens and blinds you’re mostly protected from bugs—and have a decent amount of privacy from neighbors. The hammock is a great place to read, in case you were wondering. Thanks for letting me share! xo. Emma

The hanging owls look so good!! I can’t wait to see the rest of the house!
Thank you! The owls are one of my favorite parts. Ha.
This would be such a fun project! How do you not over decorate? I feel like I’d go overboard decorating. Any chance you’ll do a wall covered in art -kind of like the walls of Hogwarts?
Or in Potter-themed newspaper clippings…like the Daily Prophet?
I had a very limited time and budget… so that’s pretty much why I was able to not over decorate. Ha!
I would love to do a wall like the halls / stairs leading to the dormitories. It was on my list of things I’d like to do. I hope I can add other things in future trips back as I have time / budget.
Or a wall of trompe l’oeil books on bookshelves, like this wallpaper — https://www.decoratorsbest.com/products/cole-son-libreria-rich-multi-wallpaper?gclid=Cj0KCQiAmsrxBRDaARIsANyiD1r9ZYnBuIERfK93-UA7pClm2fI9IH_NywhL9xqqnSiiqKK_FFrz_gcaAhVmEALw_wcB
Huge Potterhead here – I love this! Wish my dining room was like this haha! ❤️✨

I wish there was just a touch of color in the kitchen…maybe a four color runner as a nod to the houses? That’s just my opinion of course. I love the idea of pink outdoor furniture…especially if you can get some Luna Lovegood vibes poolside!
Love everything! And the pool area is giving me greenhouse vibes! Could be cool to do a herbology thing out there.
What a modern interpretation of a Harry Potter dining room! Perfect space for games and hanging out. Wizardry Bingo: https://www.etsy.com/listing/733612301/wizard-bingo-wizard-printable-party-game?ref=shop_home_active_16
