This past weekend, Trey took me to Breckenridge for a wonderful Valentine's mini trip. I LOVED it! Skiing is something Trey has really enjoyed since he was a kid, and I must admit, I was quite nervous to learn. I think my biggest fear wasn't that I would be bad at it (I'm generally bad at anything requiring balance or athleticism) but that I wouldn't like skiing. The good news: Learning to ski was easily my favorite part of the trip. The first day was very frustrating, but then I took two days of lessons, and my only regret is that we didn't have time for a few more days of lessons. I'm pretty sure I would have been a pro with just a few more days of lessons.
OK, maybe not a pro. I think watching the winter Olympics during our down time may have given me some false confidence. 🙂We stayed at a large house (we used Homeaway.com to book it) with a big group of friends. The house was just a five minute walk to the ski resort, making it easy for some folks to start skiing early or later in the day as they pleased. Trey's sister, Kat, created a five-course wine pairing dinner for everyone for Valentine's night. How romantic! 🙂 And we spent a day wandering around Breckenridge. My favorite spots were Giampietro Pizza (thanks for the recommendation, Katie!) and Crepes A La Cart. We had an absolute blast, and I can't wait to go back. xo. Emma

wow.. really cool i bet it was so fun! 🙂 http://lovesimplegreen.blogspot.com/
This looks like so much fun! Being in Florida the only time I get to see snow is when I visit family up north. I love the idea of getting away with friends for vacay!
Ahhh love Breckenridge! One of my favorite restaurants, Rasta Pasta, is there and also the Breckenridge Brewery is so awesome with so many yummy beers 🙂 Glad you had a great time… the photos are beautiful!
I’m jealous, I’m a boarder rather than skiing but not got a chance to At all this season

This is so sweet! What a fun trip! And such a great skill to learn! I’ll bet your hubby enjoyed watching you learn something he loves! Great pictures!

Lucky you!! Skiing is so much fun, I love it! I went skiing and snowboarding almost every weekend as a kid, and I still find it as thrilling and enchanting as when I was little 🙂 Maybe we’ll see you participating in the Olympics in four years time? 😉

“Crêpes á la cart”? It’s “Crêpes à la carte”!
You even can’t use this accent with the letter “a”. Haha!
Looks like so much fun! You guys are SO cute together 🙂
Wow, what an incredible trip! And great photos, looks like you had an awesome time!

Makes me want to go back SO bad. We spent Christmas 2012 there!!!
Your photos are beautiful, but I can say, with 100% confidence, that if I never ever saw snow again for the whole year in North Carolina, I will be a happy lady!
That looks like so much fun! Posts like this and the Winter Olympics are making me think that I’d love to go on a skiing holiday soon!
when are we going to get news about your app for iOS? still not working after 3 months!
Breckenridge is WONDERFUL…it was one of the first places my family visited when I was a kid to go skiing out west. Thanks for all the beautiful snowy pictures!
I love Breckinridge!!! So beautiful; what a perfect Valentine’s Day.
-Kaitlyn 🙂
Looks like so much fun! I learned to ski for the first time a couple of years ago, and I thought it was really hard… ! Glad you are having fun with it!

Hi ELsie and Emma! Im Fatema from karachi. I’m 13 years old, an aspiring DIY-freak and extremely inspired by your blog! Its great to see such confidence. I read it daily and had a suggestion.
Most working ladies or blog-readers probably spent most time reading your blog on the weekend and probably only have time to give comments then! Why not keep the comments open on the weekends and shut them on a Monday or Tuesday (both stressful busy days for people all over the world!). There are probably less comments on weekdays anyways compared to the weekend comments. Hope this idea is helpful! You guys probably need and deserve the rest to focus on blog posts rather than their comments on weekdays 🙂
On another note, welcome Sarah! I adore your photos but I hope you can keep with Elsie and Emma’s photographing style, because it’s so them! Helps me to understand/relate to the posts more.
Happy Skiing and cheers to the ABM team! xo
Love these pictures!
Sounds like an amazing get away. Man do we need one of those… Lol. Gorgeous pictures. I especially love the colored newspaper/mail boxes.

Oh my goodness … does that ever look and sound like a very good time! Good for you. I’ve been skiing since I was a kid and I’m still lousy at it, lol. But it’s fun right?
looks so much fun! I also had the best time learning to ski this weekend

where did you get those boots?
i love breck! we just drove there for the first time since living in co a few weeks ago and declared it a new favorite ski town!
These photos are amazing! Looks like a lot of fun!
I used to snowboard every winter, back when I was a teenager, but after I sold my snowboard, I didn’t try to go back. Now I kind of miss it. I miss the fresh air, the slopes and the maple candy we get up in Mont Tremblant in Quebec. Perhaps I’ll have to go and try again next winter!

My husband and I are huge skiers. We LOVE it. Skiing is a great sport to get into!!
Also, I just want to comment on how prolific you ladies are. You seem to never run out of ideas, and it is truly amazing! Keep up the good work!
This looks like such a fun trip! I’ve never skied, so I know that I’d be so nervous to learn! Glad you had a blast!
xoxo
You had such great (albeit not sunny) weather and snow too! Lucky for you! When I went to Breck a few weeks ago it was FREEZING. So cold and windy. I skied Keystone this last weekend and it was great. I’m so glad you enjoyed skiing. It’s such a great sport. xoxo Kerrie
Эх, классно там!
So much fun! I’m dying to get to a ski resort this winter. I even want to try snowboarding sometime too!
http://fashionably-lateblog.blogspot.com/
glad you had an amazing trip! it looks like so much fun! and i am sure you would be a pro with few more lessons, and maybe you could even make it to 2018 Olympics? who knows! that pizza looks so good it made me hungry x
Nice! I would really love to go skiing. I can snowboard, but have never tried skiing before. With the Olympics in full force, I’ve become a little obsessed with biathlon, so my boyfriend bought me a rifle, hahaha! Now I just need to learn to ski!

Fun!
Colorado is the best! I have never been skiing, so great job Emma! 🙂

I am not a huge skier or snowboarder, but I do love the food after the intense workout! It is my favorite part of skiing.

These photos are so freakin’ cute! What a lovely V-Day getaway.
Awesome photos, looks like you had a blast 🙂
That pizza place is one of my favorites! Quaint and delicious! Cheers!
I may have to try boarding one day. Everyone looked so cool out there on boards!

I truly am the WORST at accents. Thanks for the tip. 🙂
-Emma
Ha! I agree, this winter seems to pretty crazy for everyone. Especially everyone up north. We have a few friends in NYC and their blogs and IG photos have been VERY snow filled this year.
-Emma
This sounds just like me and my partner! His family went on tons of ski trips when he was a kid, but I didn’t learn until a couple of years ago. I’m SO uncoordinated, but he was such a patient teacher. I love skiing now! And we live in Whistler now, so we ski all the time.
Ski trips are the best, too, because you can take afternoon naps and not feel guilty because you “exercised” all morning!
Did you email for support? The email is: abm.ios.support@rocketmobile.co
Be sure it type “co” and NOT “com” at the end. I think that trips a lot of people up.
-Emma
Yes, Trey planned everything and it was so romantic. I am a very lucky and thankful lady.
-Emma
I’m happy you have a good time! Pizza looks so yummy!
Hi Fatema,
Thanks for your kind comment! So glad you enjoy the blog. 🙂
We talked a little bit about the decision to close comments in this post: http://abeautifulmess.com/2014/01/our-blog-goals-plans-and-dreams-for-2014.html
Basically turning off the comments on weekends allows us to have some time off, when we don’t have to monitor the site. We are trying to “get a life” this year. 🙂 That being said, I love how you went ahead and left a nice comment to Sarah on this post! Our team sees every comment that comes through and we appreciate them any day of the week, on any post. I think we have the kindest readers in the whole world!
Thank you!
-Emma
I second Rasta Pasta. I went there every time we visited Breck growing up. Mmm, spicy pasta.
Wow, wish I could go skiing this year! Looks so much fun. 🙂
They are from Joules: http://joulesusa.com
Thanks!
-Emma
I heard Keystone was really good-we’ll have to try there some day. I’d love to go skiing once a year (or more!) if time and resources allow.
-Emma
I’ve always wanted to go skiing ! Sounds like you had a perfect Valentines 🙂
What a beautiful place! I’m gald you had a great time 🙂
Have an amazing day!

Sounds like the nicest time! Although skiing isn’t for me, the renting a house with friends bit sounds like the most fun!
I’m so glad you stopped at the crepe place! That is a must do on all my trips to Breck.
I wish I wasn’t too scared to ski or snowboard! With all the snow everyone has gotten this winter, it really is the year for it!!!! Looks like a nice getaway : )
Surprisingly, I’ve never gone skiing before! Slightly disappointing considering I live in Michigan. haha! My boyfriend has been trying to find us time to go out and give it a wing (he loves skiing!) for the past five years!

so fun! I’ve wanted to go since i moved out west!
So glad you enjoyed Breck! As a Coloradan it’s fun to see vacation pictures of a place I’ve been so many times – it puts it into a different view. Would love to hear more details on the wine pairing dinner you enjoyed.
Wow how incredible this looks! Your photos never fail to show how beautiful everything is 🙂 Thank you for sharing! Looks like you had fun 🙂

AH, Crepes a la Cart! I visited Breckenridge with my fiance and his family this past summer, and we ate there almost every day. They were to die for!
Ahh, that sounds like so much fun! I want to learn to ski, but never have. How fun to have a little trip for Valentines!

Aw what a fun trip! This is the perfect year to do it too, what with the polar vortex and all haha.
I really enjoyed seeing this pictures as I used to live in Colorado and loved going skiing in the mountains. I might need to plan a trip back soon as I haven’t skied in a couple years now and may have lost all of my abilities!
How fun! 🙂
awesome holiday!!
Such beautiful photos! Learning to ski is on my to do list for out next winter time (june/July!) Looks like a lovely V weekend

Your trip sounded absolutely amazing!
Oh how fun! i love breck! i live 1.5 hrs away so i’ve got a season pass!! peak 9 and 10 are my favorites! I havent spent much time looking around the town since i usually go on day trips, but now that i know theres a Rasta Pasta and a Crepes a la Carte im gonna have to check it out! thanks for the tips! 🙂
So glad you had a fun time! Breck is easily one of my favorite places in the world. I live in Denver, but unfortunately I don’t get to go nearly as much now that I have a little one! Beautiful photos!
Looks very nice !
Kind of weird too (the last picture looks a bit like Praloup in France … that’s weird !)
And also, funny “crêpes a la cart” sign haha, it’s “crêpes à la carte” : ) (i’m not laughing too hard though, in France we are SO bad at languages that it would be innapropriate…)
And i LOVE your blog btw : )
Looks like an absolutely gorgeous trip away! And that pizza – yum!

We travel from the UK to Breckenridge every year- we love it there so much !
It looks perfect! Very nice pictures – AND I love your blog! :))

It’s one of my goals this year to learn how to ski 🙂 this has given me more confidence in doing it!
I couldn’t be happier with this post!! I am going to Breckenridge in 3 weeks with my boyfriend and his family, and I must admit I am pretty nervous. I have been skiing multiple times this winter, but I am still so nervous. All of these pictures look gorgeous, and even if I fail at skiing, I know I will have some beautiful sites to see!
That half and half pizza looked amazing!

I’ll be there in just few weeks!!! So glad you shared these photos- makes me even more excited to go!!
I totally saw you while I was there and hesitated to say hi to you because I was afraid I was wrong! I’m so upset now that I didn’t get to meet my favorite blogger! You and Elsie have a wonderful site 🙂
looks like so much fun!

Such fun! I’m ready for winter to be over, but this looks incredibly fun. (Though I am terrible at skiing. I can’t even roller blade.)
Welcome to Colorado! I lived in Breck years ago and it was one of the most beautiful and fun places I’ve ever lived!
What a lovely idea for Valentine’s Day! Looks like a fun trip! This place is gorgeous.
I’ve always thought I wouldn’t like skiing and I am yet to try it. I do really want to learn how to snowboard though – it looks like so much fun.
I went to Breck for my honeymoon a month ago! It was super fun. We ate at the same pizza place! Also, if you go back you HAVE to go to Oscar’s tacos.. best tacos I’ve ever tasted and they have a yummy selection of homemade salsas! I’m not much of a skier either and my husband can snowboard really well, but I felt like I was getting better after the week too!
Looks beautiful! Wish I could ski!
